Extraordinary performance. I grew up with the magesterial Clifford Curzon rendering of this masterpiece as well as the breath-taking Gould, the massive Gulda and the iconic Richter renditions. All totally and completely different, but each one of them touched with undeniable gemius. This horrendously difficult piece seems to bring out the very best in all of it's interpreters, but caution: here only the greatest of the great need try their hand.

Ach ja... die Musikgeschichte. Hat sich einmal ein inoffizieller Untertitel durchgesetzt, bleibt er haften. Auch wenn er falsch ist. Da diese Variationen vor der Eroica geschrieben worden sind und auf ein Thema aus "Die Geschöpfe des Prometheus" zurückgehen, müssten die,wenn überhaupt, "Prometheus-Variationen" heißen.
