Marvelous! This redefines what a violin can do: complex polyphony with clear voicing, unprecedented dynamic range, full of texture and color changes mimicking different instruments… I think Beethoven himself would be amazed.

I’m not sure people understand the levels this guy has reached in his craft. I legitimately think this may be THE highest achievement in history by a human. Those who’ve spent countless hours playing the violin understand this. A small percentage of violinists can reach levels where you can play Paganini and Ernst quite well, and you’ll still NEVER be able to do the things this guy can do. And it’s not even just that he’s able to play the notes, which in itself would be close to impossible for many due to not having even the sheer physical abilities, he plays incredibly musically. It’s like, if everyone is trying to achieve a 3:30 mile run, and then all of a sudden someone comes and does a 2:30 mile run.

He is by far the best violinist of all time. Double stops with harmonics on one string and regular notes on the other, while throwing in left hand pizz? Come on.

I'm completely speechless. Most probably while watching this performance I was feeling like the ones that listened to Pagagnini for the first time. It was completely crazy, what a time to be alive. Bravo!!

For me, Roman is the most impressive modern era violinist. Truly incredible mix of virtuosity and creativity.

So that's what we were waiting for so long.. it was totally worth it. I didn't know this was possible at all. This is just another level of polyphonic violin playing. And all that without his crazy glasses... Who knows what's he's able to do with them

Not gonna lie, I'm here because of Twoset Violin's video. Someone in the comments was like, "If you think this (his Mozart video) is something, you should see him do Beethoven 5." And now, I see why they said that. He graduated from being a string quartet to being an entire freaking orchestra. 😵‍💫

In the span of a year, he insanely increased his techniques, mastering all harmonics and doing unisons that us mortals cannot physically attempt without physical pain.

So now the thumb it’s an actual playable finger and I guess that scales, exercises or etudes would need to be developed from now. In more than 20 years as a classical violinist, I’ve never seen such an extended use of the thumb in full use. This is totally unbelievable 🙇🏻‍♂️

I dont know if any of other people than me has found out the slightly unnoticed technique Kim uses, which is he literally presses strings, mainly on G, by his thumb, simply jaw- dropping.

Why is Roman Kim not insanely famous ? It is simple -- he is absolutely unique, and has gone far beyond the range and scope of a normal concert violinist. People without musical discrimination (or ones filled with jealousy) work behind the scenes to discredit him or play down his accomplishments. And who knows, he may well be high functioning Aspergers and doesn't know how to (or care to) play the political scene you have to play to get the most elite doors opened. It is disgusting -- far more people deserve to hear his genius. Truly one of a kind.

I feel like the violin hasn't been stretched to new limits in such a profound way since Paganini. It's like I'm watching history happen. As a professional violinist who has played plenty of Paganini and dabbled in Ernst, I can say that I have not been this dumbfounded since I heard Last Rose of Summer for the first time. This is something different even than that though. I may just be ignorant but I don't know anybody who's stretched the instrument like this since Ernst-- so in the last 150 years. I feel like the what's possible on the violin is suddenly different. I can't even feel bad about my own playing because of how in awe I am. Unreal.

I can’t believe how Kim continues to improve the extent of violin technique by transcribing these impossible single instrument pieces! Not to mention how effortless it seems!!! We are certainly witnessing a new hyper-player and his era of playing.

First, figuring out how to transcribe it then, figuring out how to play it. Ernst's arrangement of Der Erlkonig sounds like 2 violins but this sounds like four or five. Bravo!!! Amazing, captivating work. And enjoyable!!!! Like magic.

I think roman Kim gives all of us the experience of watching paganini alive playing for us. Imagine this kind of sick talent playing in the 1700', now all the legends about He selling his soul for talent make sense. In the minds of those people this kind of playing was something impossible, and the only way to make it something comprehensible was attributed it to the devil. From the comments you can see why he is not a resounding success, there is a lot of envy. And the more one knows about music, the more this feeling grows against the most talented violinist of this century. Simply the best violinist alive to date, and potentially the best to ever pick up a violin. He would definitely give Paganini a run for his money.

The use of the thumb, flageolet voicing and the measured tremolo are simply stunning. I've never heard anything close to this good with all of these techniques being used.

Over the last 30 years, whenever I met violinists, I told that violinists must use thumb to play violin and develop technics, but they told it was impossible. Now I can see it is possible. It's not just the technique. It's the legitimate realization of the parts that Beethoven wrote. It's simply fabulous artistry of the violin and arranger and reverse orchestrator rolled into one.
