Ruggiero Ricci's rendition was also pretty amazing. Undoubtedly one of the greatest violinists in the world. As a young man I was lucky enough to hear a performance of God Save the King by Leonid Kogan on a trip to Moscow in 1975 or 76 when I was a member of the Italian Communist Party (yes, when you are young it is easy to fall prey to stupid ideas). Unfortunately there are no recordings of this piece by Kogan

@@okuyasu4033 Actually Gitlis was known for having a fantastic technique, especially at young age, and probably design to be one of the greatest, but his .. peculiar way of playing made him what he was : Hate or loved, personally I can't stand 95% of his interpretation because he totally ruins the piece for me( for instance his bach chaconne..) ( and a lot of great violonist think the same), but some other totally love him. But just look at him playing Ravel Tzigane at freaking 87 or something that's some impressive thing

I like to sauté my rosin in some natural tasting oil to give it a caramelized flavour, I personally don't bother cooking the strings but when I do I use this method: take the strings and boil them for 20-30 seconds and immediately drop them in an ice bath for ease of pealing, after you have taken off the skins slice them thinly and add them to the same pan as the rosin for the last half a minute or so, and you're done! this is a very simple week night meal that takes little to no time or effort. I like to top mine with a bit of parmigiano reggiano, picorino romano and the tears of 3 year old kids forced to play the violin.

Dont feel bad if you can’t play notes which aren’t real music. Focus on good intonation and quality of sound. This is more important than show pieces. Watch Augustin Hadelich play something slowly and that will be more inspirational and a better goal to aim for.

It feels more musical now, with the context that queen passed away. But the music also makes me feel patriotic if that make sense 😅
