I thought it may be too basic to you and some of the others but I seem to be getting a lot of these questions over and over again and I thought this way I include it all in one place so it hopefully makes more sense and helps those who would like to buy a new hoop but don't know what they should be getting. Many thanks for watching it 💓 if you one day feel like you want to try a metal or wooden hula hoop, you still could have a try and see what I mean. I use mine but they get me some bruises still even though I've been hooping for a very long time.

Thanks for explaining the differences. I learned how to trick hoop with a polypro 36" and I never truly mastered chest nor a proper flow and I realize now is because I never was exposed to HDPE style hoop that let the weight stay around my chest or even neck. 😳 I learned something!

You're amazing, Pete for starting off with a 36" polypro. That definitely is a good size to start learning with. The weight does help though when we want to learn on-body moves. Chances are you end up with a collection of hoops anyways like most hoopers - we use them all, love them all, they are all good for something 💗 the more things you try the more you will know which one of your hoops is best for learning what and then you can always push yourself a bit and try to progress with your learning so that eventually you can do all your moves with the same hoop. Initially though while we are learning different moves on different body parts we all use all kinds of hoops. Even after 15 years I am still learning new moves and often I have to switch to a different hoop while learning... then I try and master the new moves with the hoop that I do all my other moves with. It is a never ending fun journey with lots of discoveries. Happy hooping 💋

Love this! I'd also add that HDPE hoops are so sturdy that they're never thrown away. Just occasionally refreshed with new grip tape. So they're not contributing to the growing plastic trash problem.

Hello Lorraine, I recommend the 38" hoop from here if you have about average coordination: amzn.to/2U5ijpP But if you feel that coordination has been a little tricky and you need an easier hoop then the same link can help but choose 42". I started unfit and overweight with a 40" hoop and that was OK, it did take me a few days to be able to keep it up but it did stay eventually. So if you have never tried and fear that you may struggle, I would go for the 42. If you have good coordination, the 38 will be brill. I didn't have any coordination to start with so I needed a big one. But! Once you start you will fall in love with hooping, you will be playing and dancing and having fun... it won't feel like exercise but you will be looking forward to hooping every time you possibly can find a few minutes... then you notice your shape and skin and muscle tone changing... that will get you even crazier and as you hoop more, you shrink and get fitter and eventually you will need a smaller hoop... but that takes some time. The first hoop is the best hoop for learning and it will keep you entertained for a long time 💗 I hope you can feel all the amazing things coming your way, already expecting to have lots of fun and having to spend a fortune on a completely new set of clothes soon. Your shiny new chapter begins 💗🙏🌞💖😚

Oh my goodness I'm so glad I found your channel. I've watched several of your videos, and have now ordered a hoop, based on your recommendations. 😁 Can you suggest how many times a week it would be good to do this, and for how long for (or if you have a video about this, I can watch that) I'm fairly fit, and do bootcamp 3 times a week, but I'm reaching menopause age, and my tummy is getting bigger, plus with lockdown eating, which is not good 😂😂 I'm really hoping thus will help 😊. Thank you x
@BeeVargaTheHulahooper
@BeeVargaTheHulahooper 3 жыл бұрын
I get asked about how long and how many times a lot by hoopers. I included insane amount of info in my online courses on my website but to sum it up: to trigger an adaptation, so to create change: you need to create change. So if you always do what you always did, you always get the same result. If you plateau after always running 5k or always doing 3 boot camps a week or always doing 15minutes of hooping is because your body does its initial adaptations and then because there is no trigger to change further, it settles at that plateau. Not sure if it makes sense. But your body can get used to 3 bootcamps, your body can get used to hooping 15minutes. So it's good to keep the body guessing. That in a comment is hard to cover but I do conditioning sessions in my 30day course, there I think people really understand what it takes to get rid of a belly and keep a body shocked. For now you are good with any amount of hooping, if it is new to your body, you will see results easy. Once it gets used to it, it's good to learn some tricks and that way your body will be constantly guessing. If you're fairly fit already, I would go for 30minutes on the days you're not at bootcamp. You can even watch a programme or scroll your social media while you're hooping. But once it's too easy, you will need to try tricks or fancy it up. The body gets very economical especially around the menopause it loves to store fat around the mid section and the metabolism drops so low it's going to take more elbow grease to win but you can absolutely do it! 💪💪💪💪 Just believe in yourself. I have a video on my channel which I uploaded recently, an interview with Diane, she is 59 and in a phenomenal shape and she's Hooping ❤️ have a look maybe, she's super inspirational! I want to look like her when I'm 59! ❤️❤️❤️

Hi Robin, I replied on your comment on another video you left for me. I hope you can find it. I don't know what country you're from and I don't know hoop suppliers of all countries. I'm just a broke single mum teaching hooping online from Latvia... I don't have a global database but I did put links in the description which should help if you're in the US or UK. If not, I would check etsy because they usually have reasonably local ones and you just need to search for hdpe 25mm hula hoop, then get in touch with the seller to buy a diameter that's good for your size and skill level. In the video I had a chart so it should be fairly easy to pick a good one 💗 lots of love and wishing you a life changing, phenomenal & fun 2023 with lots and lots of happy hooping 😚

Hello Gorgeous 💋 are you able to find the right hoop in your area? Is it easy to get hoops there? I hope you’re able to get your hands on one soon and start spinning ❤️ it is transformational, the best thing that ever happened to me I think. Hooping helped me through the toughest of times, gave me amazing opportunities, changed my body unbelievably and it keeps showering me in unexpected rewards almost every single day! I wish the same for you 🙏🏾❤️💋 Minka is 9 years old now. She had a quick go at playing the piano about 3 years ago but her tutor was a young local girl and she just had a new boyfriend at the time and kept cancelling and letting Minka down so Minka took it personal and gave up. I don’t blame her, when you’re young and in love, and you feel that you’re loved then it’s hard to stay focused at that age. I wish Minka didn’t give up completely- but even when I offered that I find someone else, she said she didn’t want to. So i didn’t force her. She has a lot of interest though. We do lots of macrame and crochet together. I teach her mushrooming skills so we are out in the woods a lot because this way I can help her plant and mushroom identification skills a lot. We also do lots of gardening together- I grow most of our own food in our allotments - I rent 4 gardens. If interested, have a sneak peek ❤️❤️ www.beevargathehulahooper.com/garden

Do you think someone with Ehlers-Danlos hypermobility (joints slide out of socket easily & skin bruises up quite badly) could still hula hoop with a padded hoop or would you recommend against people with a connective tissue disorder doing this activity? I'm always looking for low impact exercises to help increase my stability & I'm amazed at how you've transformed your core! Have you seen the diva Grace Jones perform her songs while hula hooping? I got inspired thinking it must be great for diaphragm strength & breath control also!

First of all: you're awesome! Most people with no syndrome or anything would just stay comfy and use any excuse in the world to do nothing. Then there's you and you are keen to try even though you could easily come up with excuses. In your case it is obviously something that needs to be checked with your health care provider because they know what your condition is at the moment. I would check with someone qualified who can see you in real life. But it is true that when we stop using body parts and prevent impact on connective tissue: it all deteriorates. They benefit from some impact. In your case is has to be gentle to start with but gradually can be increased. Padded hula hoops normally are weighted. I do not recommend weighted hoops to anyone at all anyway. Ever. But if you are able to get a polypro hoop ( probably easy to find quite local on etsy! ) then that is an epic way to start. For you hdpe will be too much. Weighted hoops will be a disaster. But a popypro is just perfect. If possible I would ask the etsy seller to recommend size in your case - no need to tell me your size but tell them because they will then be able to give you the right size. You need to make it clear to the seller that you want it for your waist ( for on-body moves, too around your waist) or if you just want to do hand moves ( off-body ). So based on your size and whether or not you want on-body (waist) hooping, they will be able to give you the right diameter polypro hoop. Polypro is lighter than others. That is what I would start with in your case. When starting hooping: everyone experiences bruising... some more, some less... also erythema. That is when the skin turns red from getting a little beaten. This phenomenon called erythema is a good thing: it causes an increase of circulation. Basically your skin relaxes and does nothing all day and looks a little sad and dead and passive... then you massage it a big with a hoop and suddenly a lot of blood rushes to the site. The extra blood delivers nutrition and takes away waste products. Suddenly your connective tissue has a job: you stimulate it to get stronger to protect you from the hoop. It is amazing for anyone even with no ehlers-danlos but in your case it may as well be exactly the answer to your connective tissue problems. Most people don't care about connective tissue much, they just want firmer skin... but that is what hooping gives us all. It trains the skin that it's time to work! It stimulates the skin because every single workout is like a massage. Anyways, I hope all this helps and does not sound too overwhelming or off-putting. I would absolutely ask someone who can see me in real life and after that I would do a happy dance and jump on etsy to treat myself to my new toy that will make my life magical. Do ask the etsy seller for gaffer tape only please. Shiny and sparkly tapes get damaged easily and when they do, they get sharp. So however tempting it is to go sparkly, please clarify you want no shine, just gaffer tapes. That will never do any harm. It's a fabric type feeling. It won't have horrible edges when it starts peeling. If you use a hoop, any hoop with tape on it, it will start peeling after a while but with gaffer you will be fine for a long long time. Happy hooping 💖💖💖💖

@@DivaliciousCandi check you out sounding so positive and excited! I'm loving this 💖 maybe this is all you needed. You had to go through those years of excuses and inactivity to now be hungry for it and feel motivated. I'm a believer that all things happen for a reason. Personally I have underactive thyroid disorder and I must admit: if I didn't have problems with my thyroids I would probably be eating cake and watching Netflix most of the time 🤣 but if I don't hula hoop, I get obese... and I am sleepless and achy and have all sorts of pains and drama. But if I am active and keep playing with my hoop then my thyroids behave themselves... so really it is a blessing because without my thyroids I would just be lazy & useless. I replied to your other comment- sorry about the delay but I was working all day and I think we do have a time difference, too… You may end up with a few different hoops eventually and to be honest they are not bad - all hoops are good for something. So not sure what you can find in your country but I would buy it and see what I can do with it. It is a start. The heavy ones with the shock absorbing sponge on them will make hooping super easy, they are not that much of a workout BUT that makes them good because they stay up almost with hardly any effort. So they are great for confidence- if someone has zero coordination and is super unfit at the start: those heavy ones will help and get them going. Then if you find something that is lighter: you will see what I mean because those will get you drenched and you will feel like you had a strenuous workout and you will feel enthusiastic and confident about smashing and achieving all your fitness and physique goals! The lighter smaller ones will get you out of puff quick so you don’t have to hoop for a long time: a shorter workout will have you feel triumphant and you’ll save time by working out less but getting fitter and more toned 👌🏾💪🏽💪🏽❤️❤️❤️ have fun, darling, whatever you manage to find: you’ll be amazing at it and you’ll love it 💋💋💋

@@BeeVargaTheHulahooper thank you for the confidence boost! ❤️ I love that you are always giving positive vibes. Your explanation is very detailed and easy to understand. I am glad to have found you. I am in Singapore and we do have time difference. I have been searching for something like your recommendation, but apparently in Asia they sell mostly the weighted hula hoop (above 1kg onwards) with maximum diameter 95cm or otherwise the spinning type of hula hoop with weight that spin. As I have lower back pain and slipped disc at my tailbone, I thought it wouldn't be a good idea to get one that weigh over 1kg. I did just ordered online the spinning hula hoop. If it is unsuitable then I would get Spinterz hula hoop as recommended. I am hoping to lose weight so the weighted hula hoop isn't ideal for me. I learned so much from you. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences.

@@lllv2646 my mom had slipped disc surgery’s years ago, and she always had back pain before and for a long time even after that. The best thing for her was to keep her weight down. If she ever gained weight, she was struggling even to sleep at night - her back was agonisingly painful day and night. But when she dropped some weight, she always felt so much better. So I get what you mean. The lighter hoop will definitely help you work up a sweat and drop some weight. If you ever go to a toy shop or even garden centres have outdoor toy section ( where all the sandpit toys and swings and bowling etc are) you may find some kids hoops. Those may be too light but some you can actually pull apart! You could fill it, put it on the scales and see what you get. I’ve done that before with rice or sand… it works fine. It really does. You can add some sticky tape on it, too for better grip and even the tape adds to the weight a bit! It really is not that hard to actually turn a kids hoop into a cool grown up hoop 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💋❤️ good luck ❤️💋

It is normal to gain weight. Mentally it is a lot to process when we suddenly have an injury, something that used to be healthy and fine about us suddenly gives us challenges… and that makes us feel a little sorry for ourselves initially and we also try to avoid pain and do more harm --> so we reduce activities and hope it will get better but doing less usually makes it worse… because what we don’t use we lose… and muscles atrophy as well as bones & joints weaken. And we end up in a bit of a mess that takes a lot of courage and determination to climb out of. That is what you’re doing. So you’re already a champion because you made the decision to try and to do your best and you’re looking into exercise. Keep the momentum going. Whatever it is that inspires you and motivates: please overdose and get your fix daily. If in your head you feel positive and hopeful: you’ll continue to take action and earn your rewards. The hardest part was to get it in your head that you need to shift that weight. Now that you made the decision, the rest will be easy ❤ keep going ❤ your back will feel better than new! I have hypothyroidism… it is a condition that affects my all day every day. It makes me gain weight easily, have little energy and causes palpitations which can feel terrifying. It took me some time to learn that I have power to change how I feel about it. When I felt sorry for myself and felt hopeless and was blaming the Universe how unfair it is that I have to have this: I was feeling physically and emotionally unwell. But then I decided to not use it as an excuse but A REASON! it became my reason to stay active and try my best and get my daily fix. I consider it my medication to hula hoop! I would not miss a day of taking my tablets if I took any tablets… I decided instead of tablets I do my hoop workouts religiously. I never before was so consistent! I made it non-negotiable. I explained to my little girl, too that if I cannot get my exercise, my hormones go all over the place and I will feel very ill so I need time for me and she needs to respect that once a day I workout. I’m a single mother so it is very hard to fit it all in and be the only care giver to a kid a dog and a household while I also work full time… still: It feels incredible! Without my thyroid condition I would probably never even hula hoop! I would never know any of the skills I gained over the years! My life changed for the better. What felt like the end of the world has turned into the beginning of my fittest & healthiest & best chapter! So please keep feeding your head happy thoughts and focus on all the amazing things you are getting out of this situation 🙏🏾 you’re potentially going to change lots in your life and you’ll feel better than ever before 🙏🏾👌🏾💋❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thanks⚘BTW Are polypro hoopa suitable for multihooping?
@BeeVargaTheHulahooper
@BeeVargaTheHulahooper 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I have had a time throughout my career that I used polypro to perform multi hooping. Some moves were easier, some were harder. So overall it's not better or worse if you do a wide range of moves. But I went back to HDPE because in just a few months of using polypro I started gaining weight. The agencies that hired me preferred me to look lean so I went back to HDPE and that's what I've been using ever since. I gain weight very easily and started hooping in the first place for keeping in shape so if that's not a goal or issue for someone, then polypro is perfect. I am a mum with extremely little time for myself now so I like to make sure those few minutes that I still hoop still help me stay in decent shape. I know that with polypro I would look like a spider 🤣 with slim arms and legs but a big belly 🤣 but that's just my body, I know there are people who are naturally slim and they can do anything, they still look and feel amazing. For me it is not that important to be very lean these days but I still don't want to live with a belly 🤣

I've been using Weighted for so long, while it was helping me tone (+ I was doing another workout regime in addition) never heard of HDPE until now! I'm buying my hula hoop in the US but they're aren't telling you the thickness of the hoop in mm. Would you say 3/4 in thickness is thick enough? Also what is the difference between psi PE and HDPE?
@BeeVargaTheHulahooper
@BeeVargaTheHulahooper 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, a 3/4 HDPE is 25mm. If it's half (1/2) that is 20mm. I would go for the 3/4 if the goal is fitness and dance. Hooping you can do many styles so I wouldn't say any hoop is bad. I would say the hoop depends on what you want to do with it. If it's for toning and fitness and moves like I do in my workouts, that is best with 25mm I think. If more hand moves and off body tricks then 1/2 or polypro. If you want to dance and use it all over the body like I do, then 3/4 HDPE will be epic ♥️

That's a brill hoop then if you can adjust it. You may find that once you're good at waist hooping the smaller setting will feel better but if you will be learning chest and shoulders and different tricks, it will be useful to be able to set it to be bigger. So well done for going for an adjustable hula hoop. Use whichever size and setting feels right for whatever it is that you are learning. Smaller for fast waist hooping or bigger for learning and shoulders... It will all make sense and will be useful 💗💗💗

Hiya, I checked the links and not sure what it shows you when you follow this link but to me it shows a good beginner hoop: a 38" HDPE hoop that is sold by The Spinsters and it is 590gr. That is good. Usually what people call a weighted hoop are the ones made up of sections that one can clip together and once assembled, they usually weigh more than 1kg. If it weighs more than 1kg: I do not recommend it. If following a link gives you a different result, I'm very sorry, when I click on it, that is a good Spinsters hoop. Perfect for beginners 👌

Would hula hooping around the waist improve hip ROM and general 'looseness' at the hips?
@BeeVargaTheHulahooper
@BeeVargaTheHulahooper Жыл бұрын
Hi Graham, there's many exercises one can do even while only waist hooping that can help with ROM. The best part I think is that hooping is cardiovascular so it generates heat and heat always helps breaking down tension. This gets topped up with attention: where attention goes, energy flows. When we pay attention to any body part: it thrives. Most of us neglect the pelvic girdle. We can get by all day every day without any focus on the hips. Our chores we get through and even if someone exercises, the main focus is usually not hip mobility. When we hoop we stimulate the glutes and as we strengthen the posterior chain we loosen up the anterior musculature. The hip flexors will let go of tightness as a result and mobility gains instantly start to manifest. Hooping is a predominantly glutes and lower body exercise. Most believe it's for a 6pack... they expect abs. But really it's glutes. So if you look into inhibitors in the pelvic girdle you find that by stimulating the glutes you achieve lots in terms of mobility. So yes, hips experience 'looseness', even increase in blood flow and unexpected amazing things happen when a neglected body part is swimming in your loving attention. I hope I answered your question OK. Thank you for asking 💖🙏🌟 + Sedentary lifestyle and too much sitting and forward flexion is what most of us do most day all day. Hooping is the antidote I think because it's hip extension... all the circulation we cut off when sitting and squeezing the organs in the front we open it all up and stretch it and boost the flow of all bodily juices: blood, lymph, digestive juices as well as synovial fluid. Synovial fluid is the juice you need for hips. You get that in abundance when hooping.

@@BeeVargaTheHulahooper Thank you. I'm 6'4" with a 36" waist, looking at a 1 to 2 lb, 36 to 40" hoop. Does that seem right to you?
@BeeVargaTheHulahooper
@BeeVargaTheHulahooper Жыл бұрын
@@oldboarbrain that sounds perfect 👌 if you do have a chance to give a hoop a spin that is best because then you can feel it. The 36" will go faster than the 40" so if your coordination in general is cool as well as your cardiovascular fitness then 36 it is. If your cardiovascular fitness is a little iffy and if your coordination is not great then 40" It will be somewhere between 1 & 2 lbs for sure. That is brilliant. With hoops the lighter it is the more you have to push into it. The heavier it is the easier it is to keep it going and more economical of a workout it is... This sort of weight between 1 & 2lbs is great for waist hooping as well as learning all sorts of on-body and off-body moves. You'll be awesome and you'll be learning super fast. It will be a new addiction that will help you achieve all your goals and beyond ✨️ 🙌 💪

Hello Mildred, I saw your other comment, too and I think it is ok to start with a 2lb hoop and it will help you get started. Maybe the lighter one will be frustrating at first go. BUT I think you will end up with 2-3 hoops anyways eventually... because we all start with something bigger and slightly heavier first: so that we can keep it up at all and figure out what to do. If we are larger or less fit or less coordinated we need the bigger one. BUT once you get started you will find that first your coordination will improve like crazy! Then your fitness increases... and you will change dress sizes... and you soon will need a smaller hoop anyway. So to start, maybe try something nearer 2lbs based on the details you gave me but be prepared that you get so fit and small & skilled that you probably need another hoop soon, a smaller lighter one like a 1lb hoop. When that happens I think you won't mind starting a whole collection of hoops because you will be flying high with all your epic achievements and confidence boost and excitement! It is addictive because it is so much fun and so playful and so creative! Happy hooping, gorgeous Mildred 💋

UK size 12? I think something like 36 or 38inches would be awesome ♥️ it depends on how coordinated you feel. If you have done some sports well at school maybe or done fitness as an adult then you probably already have good coordination so I would go for 36inches in diameter. If you didn't really feel like a champion at school PE and not done much exercise then I would go for 38 or even 40 inches if you feel particularly unfit. This video is truly excellent and SO helpful ! I just rewatched it and I feel like I learned a lot. I don't think I've seen anyone else recommend choosing a hoop based on dress size, but this makes total sense and it's nice to not have to hassle with a tape measure (like some recommend.) I can also see how this would be SO helpful for a person who has never owned a hula hoop and wants to get started. The websites can be so confusing. Thank you for making this video . I had bought my first hoop based on a chart that recommended the belly button and height basis and I think I would have gotten more out of a larger hoop. Even today, I gravitate towards my 38 inch hoop which is my largest hoop and a wear a size L dress and often feel like an even larger hoop would be so helpful for skills like shoulder hooping and that bunny ear pass.

Eventually we all end up with a whole collection of hoops anyway once hoop greed kicks in and we get hungry to learn tricks and get proper fit. But when a complete beginner just wants to keep it up around the waist at all: bigger is better and helps with confidence. Too many times I've seen super tall and slim people with giant hoops and shorter more solidly built people struggle with tiny hoops and that taught me for life that this belly button malarkey is super unhelpful. It's viral, someone came up with it and everyone keeps repeating it but we don't want to spin it around us vertically so our height does not have much to do with it... we want it horizontally around the torso... and the dress size has a lot more to do with it because that takes our waist & hips into consideration. And then we completely change anyways once it stays up - we get fit and confident and change our body shape and our goals grow wings and we thrive ✨️ and we find ourselves own enough hula hoops for a country 🤣

@@BeeVargaTheHulahooper This makes so much sense! Time to shift the paradigm and maybe new hoopers will have a better experience now! I can't believe that it has been over a year since I last purchased a hula hoop. I think when you suggested that I try making a hoop, ever since then I promised myself that I wouldn't buy anymore until I try making my own. It hasn't happened yet because I've had a lot on my plate this year, but I ordered the pro gaffer tape that you recommended in your gift guide and it arrived today. I think I will try retaping my first hoop and see how that goes. Wish me luck 🤣🤣🤣🤣

@alana ana you can take pics or videos to share in the studio community. I think it would inspire the others, too if their hoops are looking tired they could refresh them 💖💖💖
