Chainsaw, loppers, and hedge trimmers get it all done. I've had to use a hand saw on a few occasions. I also find it much easier to do pruning the end of winter before breaking dormancy.

You speak from experience shrubs are a tough one to try to communicate all the details. Here’s another thing to avoid, you trim an entire hedge as to the desired result you believe you communicated to the customer, shake it out blow it off, do the finishing touches, clean up and then they ask you to take a little more off…. Which basically means do it all over again.

I tell my customers if they want any shrub trimmed back to sticks... they have to wait for winter to have that happen. That is what you call a "rejuvenation" trimming. Of course, I won't do that on a needle evergreen, because it will never grow back.

Managing customer expectations is extremely important. In this example, the way you explained it to the customer makes it more likely that you could “sell” them on the advantages of an annual trim schedule, saving them money and improving the overall look of their property.

That was $1400 to trim the shrubs in the front & backyard (customer side only) we banged it out in 4.5 hours.

@@keith-kalfasOne guy trimming and crew cleaning up? How many man hours in total and did that include hauling away the debris? Disposal is another cost, fuel, plus wear and tear (depreciation) on equipment, employees, matching SS deductions, insurance, etc. it’s not all profit.
