Perfume addiction is so real. I had a wake up call when I realized how obsessed I was with finding the next perfumes to purchase to the point where I felt mentally exhausted by it. I have since backed off and tried to focus my energy on more productive and fulfilling activities. Anti consumption content is definitely needed in the perfume youtube space. It’s not realistic for most people to spend exorbitant amounts of money on perfumes every month. There is more to life than consumerism!

Another You Tube Lady (she knows who she is) said to me that there is no need to rush and get anything. It will always be there :)

I wanted to go on a no buy but that might be impossible. So, im going on a low buy. I bought so many products thus year, its crazy. Im watching KZfaq all the time and sometimes i get FOMO. I decided to unsubscribe from most stores (Ulta. BBW etc). Also, instead of watching KZfaq, read a book or find other things to do. I want to Travel more in 2024 and make memories. Great video, tfs

A lot of the addiction is from a low grade depression. The dopamine is the desire so if it’s not shopping it will be p*rn or drinking,drama or an addiction to other people etc. Addressing the issue is the fix. Realistically if all your bills are paid and you have a savings don’t feel guilty. Try harder next time. I always tell people who think buying perfume is the addiction that it’s not the perfume it’s the buying part because after you get it the thrill goes poof and you need more. It’s a shopping addiction and you need treatment for it.

I find that keeping a journal/spreadsheet with the things you walked away from and then each week/month/ year you sum up what you saved by not buying them is a great motivator to keep walking away

Your goal can’t be no buy your goal needs to be a positive like saving for something or reducing your debts. Simply depriving yourself won’t give motivation. But working towards a goal does. I hope that makes sense

When you talked about putting things in your cart but then not buying them giving you the same dopamine hit, my mouth dropped open. I just realized the same thing recently, so I still spend spare time window shopping online for fun, but I Buy very infrequently. It has helped my budget immensely! I have ADHD and get hyper-focused on things I'm interested in. In the past, this has derailed many a financial goal. 2024 is going to be my Saving year. 💰 💰 💪 All my best to you in reaching your goals as well!!

The is nothing offensive about referring to a shopping addiction. It doesn't minimize addictions of other types. It is a legitimate addiction that can destroy lives. I think it is important to reconize that, so before it starts to get out of hand, people can address it. I have a low level shopping addiction and have for as long as I have had my own money to spend. I have always been able to keep it from being destructive in my life by having rules for myself that I won't allow myself to break. My number one is that I will not spend money I don't have. For me that means any shopping that isn't essentials, has to come after all expenses, including putting money in my savings. If there is no money left after that, then I don't shop. I am very strict with myself about this, no matter how good the deal is in that moment. This doesn't solve my desire to shop but it is one of the things that keeps it from becoming a destructive force in my life.

Excited to watch I’ve been needing to sit down and decide my rules. I keep trying to find a minute to really think about it. Ugh I need to throw out some makeup too. So painful but a reminder that I cannot finish especially makeup quick enough (I have been barely buying it for a year or two now after hoarding it basically for two years).

With shopping addiction, my biggest tip is to practice contentment. Whenever you see something you want, tell yourself that you have enough! Another bottle will not make you happy! Every bottle in your collection is your hard earned money sitting on a shelf, staring at you, and collecting dust! Use or save your money for something else boo. we already have enough to last us decades. Fragrances are not investments 👌🏼 Unfortunately, Whatever feeling you are avoiding will come back right after you unwrap that bottle. 🫂

The ironic thing is sometimes worry over money influences me to buy. Crazy I know. It’s sort of like reminding myself “it’s fine”. It’s not my main issue but it’s one for sure.

I do this: if I still recall what I was dying to buy a day after, I may get it. Often, I forget!

Or I look at my credit card debt and that usually stops me, as I want to keep it at zero once it gets at 1500.

I am excited about hearing BBW anti haul and perfume anti haul. Yes I want to see those videos!!! I did not buy the luminous and Xmas morning. I did buy hot coco to go with my dove limited edition. Plus I learned that I am a gourmand girlie!!! So yes please share what you put in your cart and then decided what you didn’t buy. From the y2k collection instead of buying the whole collection I just bought meet me in Miami because it reminds me of coco paradise.

Absolutely great topic & I’m so glad you followed thru & uploaded it! Such good advice & I totally think in your upcoming related uploads you should include things you didn’t buy / put back! This is something I do all the time because I’m noticing sometimes when I’m shopping online or in store, I can begin to feel overwhelmed. As soon as that happens, I begin assessing what? why? I’ve added each item to my cart and put anything back that doesn’t have a true, ‘meaningful reason’ (v impulsive) for being purchased. I also decluttered my channel subscriptions of those who are always pushing new perfumes - because by now, truly, I have more perfumes than I can ever use (up). And on that note, I’d actually like to sell some if & before I allow myself to buy anything new. So if you could share an upload on how to go about deciding how many to list at one time, how to photograph them, get them in packaging, price & list them that would be so awesome❤

Great topic. I don’t plan to do a full on no buy because when I do that I just spiral when I get off with anything. But I have a max budget for 2024. This way I simply have to choose better and choose way less . Just can’t have it all. I’m also saving for a mommy break next year to Italy. I can get luxuries on that trip instead lol

Carmen! This is such a great video! You always make sense, so don’t doubt yourself. You articulate yourself very well and sound compassionate and elegant while doing so. Also, I love that eye makeup look on you! That palette is gorgeous and totally worth it! I think what I need to do for myself is eventually start a subscription where I get decants of niche perfumes not talked about. Part of why I loved perfumery before discovering it on KZfaq is that I can discover a new perfume on my own that was magical and share that with the people around me. Designers are releasing way too many perfumes to keep up with, and they seem to be similar to niche ones. My recent experience with the limited edition Valentino PP being one. I’d much rather own Love Don’t Be Shy anyway. I wish there were less clones, less perfume releases and more thoughtful, magical scents out there. It also is apparent that designers have raised their prices to almost niche, but the quality is lacking. For that reason, I’d rather get decants in the future of niche and save up for ones that are truly full bottle worthy. I think with a subscription, it would keep the buying to just that limited amount, it would be something novel and exciting, it would keep variety in my collection and just plain scratch the itch. I’m not ready for any subscription yet. I feel that first I need to tackle getting through some stuff I have already. I need to feel that I accomplished some goal I set out for myself first. And when I’m really up for it, then take a good look at what I have and see if I can further declutter. On a positive note, my trigger stores have run out of options for me to buy. They don’t have anything interesting to me. And I’ve been using the shopping cart technique for a while. I wait until I see a really good free sample and then pull the trigger if I can.

I stopped watching most influencers because I realized I bought fragrances I didnt even like. Now I know EXACTLY what scent I LOVE and focus on rebuying those than fragrances I only Like. The influencers I used to watch likes gournmant scents which I dont like I prefer sexy night time strong scents. So I literally wasted money on sweet scents that werent even my preference😢

I think sometimes I make unnecessary purchases as a self reward. Like not just for my birthday or Christmas tho. Sometimes I feel like if I don't routinely enjoy my money, that I'm being taken advantage of and I'm not properly compensating myself, I guess, for everything I do. And then I start feeling bitter and ill end up like doing something stupid like quitting my job on impulse or something. So I guess in a way shopping helps keep me on track 😂 but I'm sure that's an excuse lol the mind is so bizarre
