UPDATE: Please note that this is a basic guide to get started and many mistakes were made that were brought to my attention after the video was uploaded. Apparently you can export the EQ as a txt file and upload directly to Helix. Also, Peter from PSSound responded on Facebook and stated this:
"You measure in 1/48 highest resolution, so you can see EVERYTHING! All the narrow dips and peaks too and THEN you can apply 1/12 or 1/6 smoothing. Also, mic technique is not the best as mentioned above, so you base your filters on a slightly false measurement. Then the target curve is selected quite wrong as if you have to use more than +4-6dB (and you did way more than that in the lower midrange), you’ll overdrive the DSP outputs to clip. Rather select lower target level and in given cases you may need to select different Xovers too, readjust gains. Like in your video if your mid can not deliver the lower midrange, then increase the HPF on it."
This video is outdated and will be replaced with a newer refined version in the future.

Can you try to move the mic slightly and remeasure again? You might be incorrectly equing some phase issues.

Be careful “boosting” those dips. I’m new to REW but from what I hear, dips can be (most likely are) cancellations caused by your room/car. it’s only gonna cancel harder. And you’ll just be wasting power. And/or ruining your speakers. Better to cut peaks. Speakers not in a system don’t usually have a giant dip in their natural response.

If you boost certain frequencies by 6db in the parametric eq and cut the overall channel decibel by 6 db does it offset the boost and keep the speakers where they need to be with set gains?

Great video! One question about EQ of drivers together (L&R tweet, L&R mid, etc): when making adjustments to EQ does it make a difference which side (L or R) you boost/cut frequencies as long as a desired result is achieved? And do YOU personally EQ them together in pairs or is individually good enough? Thanks!

When making measurements to set delays between the speaker and the listening point, should the measurements be taken from the grille to the listening point? or would it be more correct to remove the grilles and take measurements from the listening point to the base of the speaker cone without the grille?

Different ways of doing things, I would have raised the gain in the mid amp slightly so I would cut in the EQ and not boost as much. Sometimes boosting clips the ch on the DSP.

What does achieving a flat curve across the various components mean ? Does it mean that irrespective of the frequency being played the level will be same across the speakers ? So something like studio monitors with reference sound ?
@KGReef
@KGReef Жыл бұрын
It means that the frequency being played will be played at the intended volume without being boosted or nulled by a terrible frequency response over all. It won't be "colored" by peaks and valleys in response.

Hi are you sure you have to use mono pink noise for measuring? Because i was using correlated pink noise. That mean is stereo?

Use mono pink noise when tuning individual channels. Use correlated when measuring more than one speaker. If you use uncorrelated with multiple speakers you will experience cancellation.

Im sure you've learned a lot since you made this and it's a good video. But instead of doing all that manual boost, if wanted to boost so much which is not recommended, in the target setting you can do max boost more than your value of 3 and it would of automatically boosted to target. Thanks for the video.
