I know you’re trying had to not give all your secrets away Peter, but I thank you very much for the information you have shared and continue to share. If I ever get the chance to meet you, I’d love to buy you a beer. Next video idea... maybe just how to critically listen and evaluate purely by ear. Maybe some song tips but more what to listen for. very well done. I've told people in the past that doing what you've just demonstrated can get you, 70%-75%, maybe 80% if you're good, of the way to a really good system. The rest needs good ears and understanding of what is happening in the car. Having said that, that 75% to a customer maybe incredible and most people would be quite happy with that. But take that to a competition or let someone who really knows what they are doing listen to it and watch it get torn apart lol.

Hi Peter, cool, here at 23:50 you show how you generate the difference signal for the rears. You demonstrated this to me in Bad Salzufflen in the Mercedes. Since I have a P6MK2 in my car, I can set it up in no time... I've been using it here on my PC for years. And yes: This creates a much larger space, although the focus, as all mid-range signals are removed, doesn't change at all. But the whole thing becomes much more realistic and has more depth. As you say! You can also simply connect the whole thing between the two plus connections of the front speakers. So the rear ones in series and then the plus connection of one to RF+ and the negative connection of the other to LF+. The level can only be adjusted using series resistors.

Is it better to save different EQ presets on the DSP, or is it ok to just change the 3 band EQ on the head unit on the fly based on the individual song? Hello, do you run your amp on full pass. Low pass all the way down and full pass all the way up and just let your dsp do all the work. Or do you set amp just past the frequencies that you have dsp set at???? Do you get a cleaner sound that way instead of just running amp frequencies wide open??? I’m wanting to get a dsp and want it to sound as clean as possible. I’m working on upgrading my system and still deciding on what dsp but this is an important question for me because I’m wanting it to be as clean as possible.

John Salinas II grab a parametric EQ at 14-16kHz, Q=0.5-1 and raise it till you find it giving everything you need from the top-end. It’s the same everywhere globally. There are many caraudio shops, but hardly any of them is specialised, most don’t DSPs as have no clue about how to use it properly! Tuning is a very complex task!

Hi again Peter, I have my 7” mid bass mounted in the door with plenty of treatment. I’m currently using the foam “STINGER FAST RINGS” and the round foam thing that sticks to the door skin that sits right behind the woofer . I’m sure the front ring helps a bit but what do you think about the thick whole one that sits on the inside door skin. As I think about it I feel as if it would kind of kill my mid bass 🤔 . Hi Peter. Love your videos. I asked you a few months ago about AE 15" vs. Fi IB 15" and thank to you, I ended up going with the AE and am thrilled. I use a Helix in my car. Focal k2 3 way active system with sub. 24db slopes, Linkeitz-Riley crossover. TA by distance. EQ by playing pink noise and taking averages of each driver, making circles around my ears into REW. For some reason, my speakers always sound "bright". Very detailed but always bright. Turning down the mids/tweeters, I lose too much detail. I tried playing with the Audiofrog house curve and reducing the 2000-5000hz range but I can never seem to get it right. Someone mentioned to me about looking at phase issues, but I don't even know where to start? Any tips? Love you videos thank you!

So,if I understand correctly, with differential rear fill, you reverse the polarity of the right channel, mix it 50/50 with the left channel, and then it goes to the left speaker channel and vice versa?

Maybe this is nice to know, for some volkswagen head units it is possible to switch the speaker level outputs to low level (rca) output so they can run a dynaudio system with amp and so..

If I get like 2" or 3" mids do you even use the little crossover that comes with it? I can understand caps on the tweeters to protect them.

I noticed you use a Butterworth 24db slope crossover for all your speakers. I was under the impression that a 24 db linkwitz Riley style crossover was more widely used. Or does it simply just come down to personal preference?

Hi Peter, many thanks for the whole series, it's damn educational for one to understand SQ A to Z !! Just wondering if there's a way to implement differential rear fill at physical level, should the DSP not have this kind of functionality for IO setup. For example, I have a PXA-H800, but it does not have this function, and would really love to achieve diff rear fill. Many thanks for your valuable info once again !

I got a question regarding tweeters, what do you do about a tweeters power handling in relation to the amps power output to prevent blowing the tweet when tuning? I know through a dsp your are able to dial back each channels specific gain, so is there a general rule of thumb on how much to dial back to compensate for the power handling difference? I've read through the audio frog guide you linked but no luck. Enjoyed your videos as always.

rps13joe when you put a Xover on a tweeter, it gets way less power anyway, so even if you have a 100W amp behind it, it may only get 5 watts while your mid gets 20watts, midbass can get way more depending on settings, maybe even as much as 100watt. The lower range a speaker plays the more power it can draw, so it’s clear you need exponentially more for the subwoofer.

Could be a 10 bands parametrics eq enough for get this linear results ? ( my dsp only has 10 bands but i think if i could have 31 i could get better curve / more linear ) Greetings!

Yeah, ideally you want a DSP with 30/31bands per channel as you normally need at least 20 for individual speakers, then the rest for the pairs.

Today I took time and did some learning with rew and hmm... Alpine say it's parametric eq in their HU, but find out it's really Limited especially with eq band frequency select. I managed to use 8/9 bands, because you can't select right frequency. Well, real dsp is already waiting to Be installed. Just wanted to try what you can do with HU eq.

Whats your thoughts on smallers subs have better punch and sq than 15 inch subs ? I thought i heard the best sq with jl w6 v3 12 sealed... And alot of 15 inch sq subs... Then i tried my alpine type s 8s i bought for my doors a year ago underhung voicecoils witch is really rare in a sealed box and i never heard so much accurate punch in my life and there cheap.. ive tried IB and all so is it true snaller subs just have better impact and sq? All these years in so dissapointed in finding out this late whats ur thoughts man?
@pssound9749
@pssound9749 4 жыл бұрын
To get great punch is a combination of location of sub in the car & the installation. Most of the times you don’t hear the pure sound of a sub, but the actual cabin, which has the largest effect on what you really hear! You put a large sub in a car which peaks low and the cabin boosts also low, then that lower register is so much more emphasised, that it makes the kickbass sound muddy->subs also need tuning and EQ work, just like in this video. Look at my Honda Accord on the channel how i get the best of both words with a pair of 8” upfront and large subs in true IB in the trunk.

@@pssound9749 thanks man that makes alot of sense . Especially that 30-40hz really muds things up and those get amplified with the front windows down ... For the longest time we all heard from longterm installers with experience small subs are gonna be punchier 15s are gonna be boomy i just ignored it...but what you said explained one big reason... Even tho ive heard alot of 12s and 15s maybe its also these underhung voicecoils because these 8s literally punch your chest and body in so fast quick and hard im talking starts and stops instantly on any music . ive been looking for that for years and i thought i knew what impact was till i tried these as a test..before this only thing that came close was my dayton ultimax 15 IB

When making measurements to set delays between the speaker and the listening point, should the measurements be taken from the grille to the listening point? or would it be more correct to remove the grilles and take measurements from the listening point to the base of the speaker cone without the grille?

I don’t use tape measure 📏 so i unfortunately i can’t give you a satisfactory reply on this. Probably it doesn’t make a massive difference in that case as it’s never going to be accurate like that, but somewhat close enough.
