Beginner's Tips for Borderlands 2 in 2021

Hey all, for my next video I decided to do something different from my .EXE vids. Rest assured, I will definitely still be making them, but I though I'd give another video a go. It's a personal rule I have with myself, whereby any console I own, I must have a copy of Borderlands 2. Since getting my new PC recently, I remembered that rule and bought the game yet again.
Playing it through again, I realised I could give some newcomers some cool little tips to help improve their introductory gameplay, with some knowledge that I wish I knew when I first got the game all those years ago on the Xbox 360.
If there is anything I've missed, or even if you guys have some recommendations for tips in a possible part 2, by all means drop a comment and you can be sure I'll check them out!

Just bought BL2 this holiday and this is actually my first time playing the game. I'm still struggling sometimes but these helpful tips can really help me a lot.

i played this in 2013 on the ps3 when my cousin brought it, and I was able to get the Handsome Collection for cheap on the ps store recently so I’m thankful for this video

I remember when some guy joined my borderlands 1 lobby and gave me a hacked shield that made me invincible so I just ran around and found a level 40 or so boss and stood there being shot

I’ve been a borderlands fan since I was in high school. I started playing through borderlands 2 again to play through the entire story , not just the online play through. I loved your video specially the soundtrack which is actually one of the songs on my playlist at work, I don’t subscribe to anyone but your video was so well done I look forward to any videos you make in the future. I’m certain it will help me in my current playthrough :)

I would be very cautious on doing certain side quests. Alot of console players missed out on using the Grog and ended up doing that side quest. Once they turned in the quest it poofed and they could never get back. Unless you have a PC. On PC you can mod your char and add the gun back to your inventory. But not everyone knows how to do that, nor does everyone own a PC.

I agree, but there's always the TVHM and UVHM playthroughs where they can get those guns again once they're aware :) Missed out on the grog nozzle myself until my second or third playthrough before looking up Gunzerker builds lol

Awesome vid. Not new to the game but really enjoyed listening to the video. You’d probably get alot if views if you made a video on something related to the new game with the hype surrounding it. Have a good binge watch type format i love it. A video on some borderlands lore surrounding certain aspects would be dope

I've tried like 3 times to get into BL1 over the past 2 years, and I just couldn't. I'm sorry but it was so boring to me. I know the BL2 is the best one, so I started the other day, and I bloody love it!

BL1 is a much slower paced game and more Zen. But it will teach you not to waste ammo and get Critical hits.

I doubt you'll see this comment because of how old the video is but I am a fan of the series EXCEPT for BL2. I've always thought it was kinda harder than the other one's. I've always thought everyone simps for 2 so hard because of nostalgia, but this video really resonated with me, it let me know yes it can get hard but there's a reason why and what I can do. I'll give this game more time with new playthroughs using these tips, so maybe I'll like it more than I do now.

It definitely has its moments. I think nostalgia was a big part of why I loved replaying this game, but I loved it from my very first play through. Even now there are certain points in my play through where I find it an absolute chore to get through, but I always manage. I’m glad I could convince you to give it another chance man, that means a lot to me 😁

Im still a little confused on whether to equip based on levels or overall dmg? What if I have a gun that is 3 levels lower but has higher dmg than my new gun?

I’ve given up trying to work out from the in-game info whether a gun is any good- some of the damage mechanics aren’t listed on the weapon card so there’s no way of telling.

It's always good to compare different weapon stats. Just because a gun has higher base damage, does not necessarily mean it is better than a lower damage gun. They all have different variables that can make a big difference, such as firing patterns and elemental status chance/ status damage. Around 3-4 levels below an enemy is where you might start to see a significant damage falloff, so I'd recommend trying to get a higher level weapon before progressing. Though sometimes you might find a gun that still shreds enemies that are upwards of 7 or 8 levels higher.

Always consider magazine size and reload speed as well. It's not only about DMG.

I've always had the issue where, a legendary drops I really enjoy how it works, for example, a granade that becomes more granades when it explodes, or a pistol/submachine gun that shoots a specific way and I also really want to have my "set" of guns, like a shotgun, a pistol or submachine gun, a sniper and a biggie like a heavy machinegun or a rocket launcher, and I have a blast with those gun for about 2 levels and I don't really wanna change them beacuse I really like how they work, but maybe a few hours go by and suddenly all my guns are holding me back beacuse what before was crazy good is now just trash. So I change them for something on my level but I don't like how the guns feel, and I just gotta stick with those beacuse "number higher" until I get lucky and get another fun gun of high level. so I enjoy the game a lot except during those moments of "all my weapons suck and the ones that don't I don't like them" that can last for hours of gameplay, by watching this video I can kinda put that in perspective and now I guess I can try to put myself in a mindset to not get bothered by that. I wonder if anyone had this feel. the "all my gear sucks nearly all the time" feel

As a noob This is the only game I’ve played where my heart sinks every time I find a chest or get a drop/reward. Even if there’s something good I have no way of knowing from the stats, not enough space to carry everything till I can test them all out, and reload/swap takes so long I die before I’ve had a chance to compare properly in a fight. I’m more excited to find ammo than weapons, and cash is almost useless as nothings worth buying other than ammo and health which are cheap.

That's no good to hear that you're struggling man. There can sometimes be a bit of a learning curve, as the game does throw weapon after weapon at you. Early game, most weapons should be okay sort of get you through the mission, but it does get more difficult to find better weapons as you go. I strongly recommend doing as many side quests as you can, as they often reward unique weapons that can be quite strong and help out alot! If you also have the patience, farming early-game legendaries can be a good way to get a bit ahead of the difficulty!

Additionally, if you're running out of space, talk to Crazy Earl in Sanctuary. If you have enough eridium, you can purchase more space for ammo types and backpack storage!

@@seductiveslooth969 Thanks! Yes all good advice, I’m slowly learning bits here and there- and complexity makes for replayability , so not a bad thing long term. I think the main problem for me with weapons is all the important info that isn’t explicit and obvious on the stats card. Stuff like splash damage and recoil for example, vary hugely even with the same base gun. So a drop can be all green arrows, rarer and higher level but still do less damage than what I’ve got. I’m looking at farming legendaries, but setting the usual save file to ‘read only’ didn’t stop it saving for some reason, so I’ll need a separate character for that.

@@jojojo8835 yea I get that man. Unfortunately Borderlands 2 is a game of luck, so it may take a while to really find your feet with a solid gun. You’ll get used to different gun manufacturers and their usual effects (Dahl has good accuracy/decent damage, Vladof has high fire rate, hyperion has accuracy, Jakob’s has raw damage, maliwan do all your elemental effects, and torgue has high explosive/splash damage). But again as i said, these can all vary greatly. Best of luck man, hope you’re enjoying it a bit more :)

I know I'm in the minority, but I actually don't like BL2 as much as BL1. I can't really articulate why, but 2 just wasn't as fun for me for some reason; which is strange because it's an objective improvement in most ways.

You can choose whoever you want man. Like I mentioned, each character has certain builds which make them all viable. It depends on how you enjoy playing. If you're a fan of meleeing everyone into a bloody mist, then I'd go Krieg. If you wanna blow everything in front of you into smitherines while dual wielding rocket launchers, I'd go Gunzerker. I'd say test them all out or watch some videos on each class, and see what you like most bro

If you’re a normal mode a legendary could easily last you 10 levels

I found a Baja other leg and I forgot the name of the assault rifle and a hive mind at the end of my playthru 1 of borderlands one and didn't find a new assault rifle or shot gun til the ending fight of playthru 2

I personally am still currently playing borderlands 2 because it's one of the greatest games known to all man However the moment I saw this video and I read the title, I instantaneously had to forward this link in a text message to my girlfriend because she will play it come hell or high water!!!!!!!! IT WILL BE MY LIFELONG GOAL THAT I NEED TO MEET BEFORE I CAN DIE A HAPPY MAN!!!!!!!!!!!
