In this video I show what I think is the number one reason why most people struggle with soldering. It's all about the application of heat. The tip of the soldering iron needs to be applied to the center of the joining metals. The heat needs to be applied evenly. This video shows a few examples.

I always solder my wiring on my vehicles. You did a nice and quick training. Everyone should appreciate it. One additional tip, is to make sure your soldering iron tip is always clean. A small wire brush will do nicely. 👍

I re-wired my uncle’s entire T bucket recently, it built in the late 60’s initially, the original guy had many cold solder joints with globs of solder not penetrating the wire.

Been using a Weller Soldering Gun, came in a kit in a plastic case with different tips etc., since the 70's and heat shrink for as long as I can remember. Always like when I watch a video to learn something new and realize I've been doing things the right way all along.. Love your videos Jimmy.

63/37 rosin core solder, best type solder, much lower melting point.

Good tips. Smart how you protect the speaker with a piece of sandpaper or other blotter material. Dont forget to only solder in a ventalated area. Never breathe the smoke or gas from solder.

On Auto wiring I use a pencil torch in most places. It will heat everything faster and works great on the heat shrink also. It does require extra caution obviously, but it's very fast so once you get used to it, you don't want to go back.

with that soldering gun, you have to be careful, especially with smaller gauge wire. If you get the copper too hot it also wont accept solder. Soldering really is more art than anything else.

Most people's woes are not using lead solder and and a tube of flux in a syringe.

I’m never a fan of soldering at all. Just like putting led turn signal bulbs and when they get hyperflash. U get better options Use load equalizer resistors by sylvania and it includes T-tabs which is a better option. U can use other load equalizer resistor with socket connectors it came with, as a plug and play version. U can use an led fladher relay which much better approach. If u don’t want to do none of that, get an led bulbs with built in resistors for pure plug and play. There’s ur better options

You're soldering sucks because you shouldn't be soldering stranded wire, especially on vehicles. Crimp connections are the way to go on stranded wire. But just like you need a good soldering iron for solder you need a good ratcheting crimp tool for crimps.

These are tried and true old skool technique to get the job done. But I agree. Using T-tabs are much better approach and little less pain.

@@peterston4039 you also have to crimp correctly and there’s some newer weather-resistant connections on the market with solder and when heat shrinking the crimp it melts and then cover with heat shrink and electrical tape. Faster and better connections. Never had a properly crimped wire come apart either. Can have a lot of issues with both even when done correctly.
