Additionally, please remember that this is a video for entertainment purposes, which tries to explain figure skating in the simplest terms possible. My heart broke seeing Kamila break down. They tried to “protect” her, but caused so much more harm to her. Then seeing Anna look so lost after she had won GOLD is incredibly sad. Then Sasha’s breakdown as well. These poor girls.

I had never heard of Elizaveta, and watching her made me realise what's lost by not having any adults considered viable for competition. The kids are incredible, but she has a poise and elegance that gives her performance a different kind of depth.

This hurts my heart because they’re all kids.. literal children that clip of kamila walking alone by the press was it for me.

That look on Sasha's face when Anna's score was revealed broke my heart...you could just see all the happiness draining out of her 😭

In these Olympics 1) A 15 years old girl felt the need to hide her face with a hoodie 2)A 17 years old girl felt the need to cry after giving the performance of her (until then)lifetime and probably believing that her career is over 3)The Olympic champion feeling nothing after getting the gold in the most prestigious figure skating competition 4)The biggest figure skating team in the world never getting accountable after a literally teenage athlete of them got a positive drug test 5)Journalist putting cameras right in front of a teen after hearing that she probably won't compete something that in her mind among others means that she will let her whole nation down, and in front of another teen ,while her mascara was running, while she was experiencing her worst moment in her life Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse than 2018 These Olympics weren't just a mess, they were horrible. They took the most iconic sport competition and turned it into a drama seeking tv broadcast

I didn’t know Anna refused to meet with Putin. Respect.

Honestly, I am SO PROUD of Alena Kostornaia and Elizaveta Nugumanova for speaking up about the abuses that they have suffered at the hand of their coaches. The fact that Alena has stated how in favour she is about raising the age limit to compete on the senior level really speaks volumes about the child exploitation she endured. Seeing as how all the adults in her life have let her down, I hope Alena knows her worth and that she matters as an individual. Also hoping that she is better treated by Elena Buianova whom is now coaching her.

As a Russian, this is not solely an Eteri Problem- it’s a Russian problem. Womens athleticism is just viewed different here (and that’s not a good thing.) I’m a ballet dancer and Russian trained, and a lot of young dancers are very thin and very overly flexible. That’s mainly how they get high extensions and high jumps, they don’t build as much muscle as western dancers. That all works fine until they’re young adults and go off to get company contracts in the west when they don’t perform to the ridiculous standards russian companies set especially for body weight. A lot of Russian dancers I know in the west don’t manage to build a solid career, not because they’re untalented, but because they basically have to start over building muscle strength once they’re adults and even then, their careers are cut short and most will retire from the stage before age 30, while western ballerinas manage to stay on stage until 40.

Trusova is magnificent, really sad but I really think and hope she’s an exception to the expiration date bc she’s such a fighter

Team Tutberidze acknowledged the hip injury of Daria by calling he a ‘fragile girl’ after she performed on their stars on ice show. Like, please. She isn’t fragile and was probably a healthy young person before they broke her with their barbaric training methods. The only thing that’s fragile are these coaches’ egos.

The fact that after she left a 2nd time Trusova was asked in an interview: “Was there a bouquet?” And she literally answered: “Eteri Georgina doesn’t like flowers.” It’s just 😂

I want to make a small correction, Mark and other male skaters did NOT sign up for military training. Its a law in Russia that all men who turn 18 must complete a year of military training, so thats what they are doing right now

the image at 42:53 literally makes me cry every time. that's not how an olympic gold winner should look like moments after winning the competition of their life. poor anna, poor sasha, poor kamila!

Wow , never knew Sasha was followed and cornered. I feel that the Russian coaches were embarrassed that Sasha was crying and felt scared bc she was saying things out loud for the whole world to hear what it’s like being a skater under their team

Those who are interested in the puberty-suppressing regime at team Tudberidze should compare pictures of Kamila, Sasha and Anna before and after the short holiday abroad they had last month. It is remarkable how much curvier they got in those few weeks. I cannot say whether they were on puberty blockers (illegal) or overtrained and underfed (not illegal but highly frowned upon), but their bodies clearly had a big reaction at being "set free" for just a very short time. To be clear: I'm not calling them fat, Anna really looks like a healthy young woman now, and so do the others.

There were photos shown when the girls flew back to Russia where Anna has her medal around her neck when taking photos with others, but when Trusova is in the same photos she immediately puts her medal back into her jacket. I don't like her skating technique, but she's such a lovely young lady and so considerate

Eteri misses the point, though. What’s “lost out” for Evgenia is not that she didn’t get the gold in 2018. It was that at 19, that was the last Olympic season for her. She should have had another shot. That’s not a normal timespan for an athlete

As a Sasha fan, 2022 Olympics was a roller coaster of emotion. I was crying bcos of happines after Sasha's Long Program. I was soooo happy! She did it!!! She landed 5 quads. But after Kami performed all hell broke loose, I was confused and heart broken for Sasha! 2022 Olympics was a MESS

poor Anna, it should have been one of the happiest moments of her life and instead she was numb :(

Sasha wasn’t having a meltdown, she was having a mental breakdown. Because she was told all season that if she lands all 5 quads, she would have won. Edit: I don’t think I made this detailed enough so here : basically Sasha was wanting to do more quads when her coaches were against it. But when the Olympics rolled around, Sasha had all her quads planned. And on top of that eteri told her if she lands all 5 quads she would walk away with gold. I hope that cleared things up 😭

Daniel Weiss (I think it was him, I am not good with names, when I can't see a face...) who commented figure skating for the ARD (germany) put all my emotions into words. First, the flinch when Kamila fell again (because I did too), then, after he said that she is still a girl, 15, and if he were her father that he would have already packed her up and brought her home after what had already happend, because this is too much for any child to handle. And he basically yelled at Tutberidze for not comforting her after, he begged her to hug her and not just stand there, again saying Kamila is a child and needs that now... And then, in the studio, Katarina Witt, cried. They were both mad, so mad and so sorry and sad for her. And she also shat on the whole system in russia and the pressure they put on young athletes especially with quads at that young age and said that they need to bumb up the age barrier for seniors so that they don't go as hard on them.

These videos are starting to become my guilty pleasure. They're better than any soap opera. What a great subject for a Netflix docuseries.

Irreparable harm to not allow Kamila to compete? Yeah…I can’t imagine a more irreparably harmful scenario for Kamila than the free program in the individual event. She should have been sent home for her own protection. Her entire world crumbled before her eyes. The adults around her (coaching staff, RUSADA, CAS, etc.) failed her.

That was pretty much the worst way any Olympics event could end... It was just so heartbreaking. I mean I was happy for Anna; she was an underdog but nobody was there to celebrate with her. The other 2 girls were broken down and getting better support from event volunteers than their actual coaches. Even Johnny and Tara couldn't shine a positive light on Team Eteri at that moment

Anna skates broke and she had to get one before her performance,,, THAT JUST SPEAKS SOMETHING she totally deserved the gold!!

I will forever be sad about this entire mess. Every single girl involved deserved more, they are all so insanely talented and it is so so sad how physically and mentally damaged they are just to get tossed aside after a few years of fame. I followed Kamila since she was 12 years old, she was a remarkable talent, her artistry was something else. Her jumping consistency was not that great in juniors, it hugely went up in the second half of 2020/21 season so I assume that is when the doping shit started. It is so sad the adults around her failed her this much. I believe her international competitive career is over and this is so fucking sad, she could have become a legend truly

Watching Kaori cry and hug Wakaba made me tear up. I love those two. Kaori should've been given gold.

I think the Trusova refusing to return to her room after the ceremony was said to be a false rumour. Apparently, what kept her there for hours was the drug testing and that nobody helped her get home so she had to figure out the bus herself (according to another volunteer that disproved the initial wechat outburst rumour).

If you look at the girl who hurt her hip, she already had a pad on it for pain (I’m saying this as a former ballet dancer who has hurt her hips more than once) having hip pain is one of the worst part for figure staking because of the movements. Not only that but already being in pain and then hurting it again normally means life long damage which may mean that she will never be able to stake the same way again.

This was such a great representation of what happened before, during and after the Olympics. Bravo to you Paola La!

I will NEVER forget that morning… watching the Ladies’ Free live. And watching the fallout at the end with Sasha & Kamila inconsolable… and Anna alone.

CAS making their decision claiming that pulling kamila out of the competition would be 'irreparable harm' instead of the doping of a 15 year old in the first place, and the obvious years of abuse that is being a skater in team tutberidze, has still stuck with me the most. Just how many people despite all the craziness seemed to entirely miss the point. Missing that kamila probably wasn't the only one doping, that Sasha and Anna probably were too, that these girls are being starved, not even allowed to drink water on competition days. The mere fact that aliona broke BOTH of her arms in training in just a few months. The fact that we finally saw firsthand just the sheer agony and trauma of these girls. And yet there haven't been consequences. It took a literal international war started by Russia for their athletes in the sport to have any setbacks. And just the sheer possibility that the usfs might allow eteri's daughter to represent them, hell, they might even allow tutberidze to coach. It makes me sick. I genuinely got into figure skating for the art and the interesting stories around athletes to follow. But that's not what this is anymore. These aren't crazy stories for us to make memes about on Twitter. It's plain abuse that's happening right in front of our Eyes. I might keep watching for a while now that Russians athletes are banned (wich is for the better in so many ways, let's be honest here). But I've just gotten to the point where I feel this sport is rotten to the core. It glorifies and ignores abuse for the sake of making money, and the corruption runs too deep. There is nothing genuine about it. And if there is, it's never promoted or cultivated by the sport. Just sickening.

"Irreparable harm" from a legal standpoint doesn't mean that it would harm Kamila. It only means that if she was banned from competing and it was later found that she hadn't been doping, the damage this would have caused could not be compensated by MONETARY damages. It's just a standard legal clause and has nothing to do with her age...

That medal ceremony and judging was so sad 😔😢 just seeing that girl Anna sitting all alone holding her gold medal and looking lost on what should be the best day of her life 💔

Watching Kamila and Sasha's reactions is just sad. Anna won the most valuable medal of her life, she had no one to be happy with, the attention is on Sasha.

This is just so sad that these girls had to go through such emotional trauma. That reporter who questioned Anna on why she should go to the Olympics, did have a point, though he shouldn't have asked it to Anna but to the people who gave her the points, Kamilla's doping scandal is something truly questionable, till now it's not clear who's fault is it but something tells me it's not Kamilla's fault, and what Aliona said was so deep and heartbreaking, Sasha and Kamilla realized no one cared for them in the Eteri camp and I hope Anna does understand that the physical and mental trauma is not way one always succeeds and I wish none of the girls have life long physical pain due to the overpractice past skaters, from what I have seen so far of my 3 months of being a figure skating fan it's a disastrous ride in Russian figure skating.

I've been a casual fan of skating since the last Olympics, I've been cheering for Anna for several years now. I'm glad that she won, but five months later I'm still quite frankly sickened by the events that took place at these games. I've never had this feeling about sports before, (although I'm still a teenager so I wouldn't know that much) and I think the sheer injustice of their whole thing is what's stuck with me. It was hard to watch such talented people my own age hurt so much. It left me unfulfilled, frustrated and helpless that I could do nothing to help this immensely f*cked up situation.

I don't know a thing about figure skating but all this drama has me sooo invested

Thanks for this being in Australia it’s difficult to find (and at times understand) what’s going on behind the scenes. Watching things like the Skating Lesson a lot of what they say assumes a knowledge of the sport, that we don’t have here. They have only just started in the past few years televising ISU events on telly. For much of my life we only saw figureskating on tv at the Olympics. Your commentary which is very clear has helped me join the dots, and increased my understanding significantly.

Eteri making Aloyna talked about how she smiled at the wrong times.... well, when do her girls get to smile? Daria certainly didn't do much smiling. Anna was on the top of podium on Olympics, but she just stood there looking tragic as she won. Trusova yelled hysterically and dissolved into tears... while being on podium. Aloyna looked miserable during her programs. I take Josephine of Sweden smiling while landing 15th over this.

Thanks for this video. I started following figure skating last year and I find your videos very informative and entertaining. I live In a country where no one watches figure skating lol so these videos are a nice way to interact with people who share the same interests.

Watching this on live television.... You just had to be there. The worst and most suspicious thing of it all is that after everything, Anna then was suddenly able to land her quads again and look more lively on ice, with more stamina. After she couldn't even win a tiny-tiny challenger competition previously that season, the Budapest Trophy ('21 October), because Maia Khromykh beat her with a clean skate! But yeah sure Anna was _not_ drugged... Anyway, just knowing she refused to meet Putin has now raised her in my eyes. She was never my favorite but all kudos to her.

learning that kamila lives in moscow with her grandmother while her parents live in kazan makes me terrified that she’s going through what alina went through context: eteri said in an interview how when alina first came to moscow to try out for sambo, she and her mom came from her hometown izhevsk and rented an apartment. eteri said that alina was “lazy” and kicked her out. her grandmother came back to sambo to ask eteri for a second chance, and eteri said she would take alina back on the condition that alina’s mother would not be allowed to go live in moscow with alina or even VISIT her until she got an olympic medal. alina began training under team tut since she was 13
