This is our FIRST TIME REACTION the fourth season of the show, where we follow Walter White, and the surrounding cast of characters of Jesse Pinkman, Hank, Skyler, Walter Jr, Saul Goodman, Gus, Mike, and more! Gus' backstory??

And starts the greatest season in television history. Vince believed in writing the character's stories as they went along instead of start to finish. They'd back a character into a corner organically and spend hrs & hrs in the writing room figuring ways they could make an out like you said. At the time of shooting this episode they had no plan for how the M60 gun from the cold open would make it's return to the story. The fact that they can just sprinkle in tools to a scene whether it's objects or a character's lines as they go along and then come back to them full circle in such a clever & organic way makes it feel as if it was all planned from the start. Part of the magic of this show.

This was top notch writing the whole show. I think some people watch a tv series like it’s a movie where the ending has been written and filmed,but they approached it one season at a time which must be freeing for writers to work that way

*”Ok, God..”* Funny you mention that, during the promotion for this episode, Vince revealed that “playing God” was the theme. You subtly see it when Walt finally forgives Skylar for her affair. Walt now sees himself as the one above all. But for certain when he says “because I say so” Being so sure of himself. Also asserting himself and having dominion over Saul

22:25 When the show first ran, there was a meme of "this is the moment that walter white became heisenberg", which people would write in the comments about certain scenes and clips from the show. This is one of those moments. But looking back, I realised every scene of the show is a scene where walter white became heisenberg. It was a gradual process of change as predicted by the first chemistry lesson that Walter gave.

To me once he used that name he became Heisenberg,his transformation was complete. It was the first time he was willing to kill/die(despite how it turned out he had to know he might not make it out of there alive but I know that could be argued). Everything after that was just another manifestation of Heisenberg,a little less moral and a little more ruthless each time. Anyway I’m glad this show has suddenly come back into the public consciousness,it’s not quite far enough in the past to be truly nostalgic but feels like the return of an old friend you haven’t seen in awhile. It’s been years since there was a reason to discuss one of the 3 greatest shows ever again(the other two should be obvious but to me BB is number one though I’m culturally closer to the other two) ok this went on way too long.🤪 Peace

I started watching you guys at the right time,I just binged your reactions to the first 4 seasons. 5 might be the best one(it’s actually 2 mini seasons that aired a year apart). I miss knowing there was more Breaking Bad coming but this is the next best thing

I love the guessing game you guys played at the beginning. You got something in there, and depending on how far along you guys are with the season you probably know what it is. And the gun, yeah. Vince must have got such a rush when he finally figured out what that was for. Enjoy the rollercoaster guys. If you thought season 4 was nerve-wracking you ain't seen nothing yet ;D

21:20 Mythbusters did test a couple of things that happened on the show! I only remember season 1 where Walter used fulminated mercury or something like that to throw and explode. They tested it and it didn't work. I think they also tested if you could dissolve a gun in acid, like with the bathtub.

Ted wouldn't have tripped and broken his neck if Saul's goons hadn't been there, yes, threatening him. I'm sure they were prepared to hurt him in some fashion in order to make him write the check. Not sure how you can say they weren't serious. That's just ridiculous.

You guys should totally check out Better Call Saul after you’ve finished breaking bad, it’s on par with bb and is a bit shorter, yet gives you a lot of insight to characters we didn’t really know much about in bb

I live in Massachusetts. Like right next to Salem. I couldnt believe it when the Dennys waitress mentioned Swampcott Massachusetts in this episode. Not a popular town by any means.

Even though I've watched this episode several times this time I realized another negative result of Wait's antics. Not only did they erase Gus's laptop but they would erase any other magnetic media in that room. Imagine a child pornographer going free because the evidence against him was destroyed by Walt.

This is where we first learn that all of seasons 1, 2, 3, 4, and early season 5 in the storyline all took place over ONE YEAR. Ironic considering that the time from s01e01 through to s05e04 was in real life four years and six months, and the entire run of the series in full ran for almost six years. Then another six years before El Camino came out. Knowing that most of the story takes place over only one year really puts an emphasis on how quickly and thoroughly Walter degraded as a human being.

They do say a few times "the better part of a year", "hell of a last few weeks", etc. at times to give perspective on how much time had passed between events but the birthday really puts it in the audiences mind that all of this happened in such a short timeframe.

They actually did a special episode of Mythbusters where they tested most of the scientific scenes. It's definitely worth a watch when you finish they series! The results of the episode are so interesting. Breaking Bad must've had so many consultants for the chemistry on this show.

Because Gus spent years creating a well oiled machine and Walt literally only does his for his own pride. Neither of the men are good people, but Walt’s ego is unbearable.

@nerdymarriedcouple oh it makes complete sense that gus who was responsible for killing a kid and threatening walt to kill his baby to be very likable but walt poisoned a kid ( knowing very well that he will be safe ) to protect himself and his family and having a big ego is very unlikable.... and he is a protagonist!!!!!how dare he becoming a big bad guy like gus

@Dahmen-ll8cd It is less about Gus's actions and more that he is efficient and has a clue on what he's doing. He owns it. Gus is charismatic and pragmatic. Walt is erratic, not a huge people person, always conflicted, and in his trying to do what he does, he screws it up consistently for others. In general, Walt comes off more like a genuine asshole who thinks people should be licking his boots when he only makes things worse for everyone, criminal, civilian or otherwise. That's where the dissonance comes from.
