I wish I had been aware of this disease's existence earlier. For 10 years I've been asking for help from my doctors for my frequent large mouth ulcers that can last weeks, chronic fatigue, chronic body folliculitis, eye sensitivity to light, daily headaches, allergic to all fragrances, dull pain in my hands resembling arthritis. The only mentioned IBDs (ulcerative colitis and crohn's disease) - my colonoscopy showed ulcers in my gut, but the blood test was negative for IBD. The doctors didn't know what else it could be. It wasn't until I moved to a different state and got a new doctor that during my FIRST visit he mentioned it might be Behcet's. I wonder how many doctor's don't even know this exists? To be fair it's very very rare in the USA

I have been living with this for over 40 years..you must become your own advocate on Neuro~Behcets..and learn as much as you can..to which medications your body can tolerate..I have found that there needs to be a balance between Allopathic Medicine And Naturopathic Medicine with this disease and most auto inflammatory diseases...

Currently in a ridiculous amount of pain from my behçet's disease i'm only 20, obviously my medication isn't working very well and one part of me is saying relax in bed and the other is saying go to the gym be active like i would like to be but what's the worst is not really knowing what would be better.

If you don't have addiction issues, Vicoprofen has been used in Behcets patients with amazing success for those with the most chronic form. Oddly enough, the inflammatory qualities allow for some patients with crohn's like symptoms to reduce or only need certain medications for flares. Medicines such as asocol, colchicine, Prednisone acid blockers, reflux meds., instead of constant maintenance doses.. It can not be just IB profen it has to be the combination of hydro and profen. The hydro helps break the flu like symptoms, stops gastrointestinal spasms, excessive acid and biles, joint inflammation, neuro pain etc. Its strange, but by itself, Regular ibuprofen tears myself up horribly after 1 or 2 days. At first, I refused to take the combo of Vicoprofen. But I relented and I had tolerated very well with no GI issue for years, ulcers or otherwise. It has tremendous anti inflammatory capabilities. If you suffer the flu like symptoms, it seems to do better then anything else, even much more then some powerful and very dangerous drugs that are commonly used. It all depends on the individual.

bcabmac, thank you so much for the amazing tips! I’m 11 and have Behçet’s disease and I’m in pain all the time it’s the WORST. Right now my doctors are trying to get me into the children’s hospital so I can try to get a normal life when I’m older :)
