I see some acquaintances of mine saying as a joke that the behelit is kind of the gore version of the spider man curse for those who don't know (to be spider man you don't have to only get bitten by the spider but also lose someone important to you )

In no way is berserk at all inspired by anything in Spiderman. What you're seeing is similarities in storyline tropes used across genres. The big bad of starwars, empomeror Palpatine, is similar to lord of the rings' Sauran. They're both pure evil beings, so there's going to be similar character tropes. This is why all vampire movies/games share similarities(vampire tropes) all zombies have similarities (zombie tropes) etc. Behelits obviously fit in the category of the chosen one/object trope, like the holy grail, or the lantern rings from DC comics. There's similarities, but they in no way shaped each other's stories. Tropes are what give people familiarity across genres, giving a viewer a sense of something familiar while experiencing a completely new story. It's why you can watch Spiderman and then think something in berserk might be inspired by it, or vice versa. They're not inspiring each other's storylines at all, as I *highly* doubt Miura was a fan of marvel, but instead you see tropes that you're familiar with and it gives you this "aha!" Moment.

A behelit is a key that opens up the deeper parts of the astral world, or the 4th layer of the astral world that magicians of any era have never returned from, in exchange for your wish, you must sacrifice someone or something meaningful, the more meaning it has to you the more power you gain from it, usually this results in your wish transforming you into an apostle equivalent to power of your sacrifice and causality/destiny being bent to your whims also to that extent. The 4th layer itself is simply a creation of humans, the "idea of evil" that we have had since the beginning of humanity, trying to justify and make sense of the world, blaming things we dislike as evil regardless of anything, this coupled with humanity all having to some extend spiritual power, gave birth to the "reason" why evil exist, we quite literally conjured up "the idea of evil", a god of sorts. The 4th layer was made by us, made by god, when a human makes their wish, they give away their humanity and innosence, squeezing out the last "tear" of humanity, this tear then rains down to the physical world as the behelits. Simply put this is all a cycle humanity can never escape from

Basically a more twisted version of Gaunter O'Dimm, he give you what wish, not what you want, but at contrary of the Behelit, I wouldn't call O'Dimm the embodiment of evil, sure he can be cruel and ruthless, but his nickname is Mister Mirror or Master of Glass, meaning that he only prey in people that are cruel, brutal and blood thirsty beings or just the ones that annoy him, another difference is that Gaunter always wins, is irrelevant if he takes your soul or not, if you actually defeat him, he left you with a life of misery and pain.

I like how this entire story could’ve been avoided if either guts didn’t leave for a month and if Griffith didn’t sleep with the princess until after becoming a general. Like all bro had to do was wait a month to become royalty and his entire army commanders then he would’ve been front in line for the throne and it would’ve been either marrying the princess or ending the kings line. All this happened was because he cared so much about guts and it didn’t matter in the end. Also another way was after the night with the princess Griffith could’ve just left the palace and it would’ve been his word over a servants.

the thing is even without Guts leaving the band and Griffith not sleeping with princess -- there's still Ganishka with his army and Griffith's band will be sent there to deal with it, causing Griffith's near death experience and behelith activation, so literally nothing can be done to stop this from happening

lots of undue assumptions in your comment. "royalty" are well known for having an unquenchable thirst for dirty deeds and doing whatever necessary to protect their power and wealth. there's no way they'd allow a dirty mercenary to be part of their lineage, regardless of how much prowess they display on the battlefield or how much wealth/power they win for the monarchs. the reason they are monarchs in the first place, is because they dont have the capacity to recognize or reward people for doing beneficial things. they take credit and reward for everything from everyone. they see themselves as perpetual owners of all life in existence. you really show a childish level of naivety thinking monarchs would ever allow an outsider into their circle of power. there's a reason its extremely common for monarchs to breed with their own children/siblings/cousins lol. ffs, griffith was a orphan. with that kind of heritage, there is simply no way he would be adequately rewarded by monarchs. they see everyone not born into wealth as subhuman tools and everything they do is simply to manipulate others to expand their wealth and power over everything. seriously, you have some disney fairy tale level understanding of how monarchy has/will always worked

everyone missing this and the godhand are just a ripoff of the hellraiser demons and their puzzle box. the behelit is like the lament configuration from hellraiser. The puzzle box promises to fulfill your deepest wishes but summons the demons/angels of hellraiser for eternal pain and pleasure. The godhand are even heavily inspired by the design of the hellraiser demons amd was and obvious inspiration for the manga

Early on in the manga after the battle with the count ubik of the god hand stated if Gutz used a Behilit he would surpass a God hand member. Its not rocket science which one he would use his to kill and become the next Zodd.
