I think its interesting to view Griffith as representing determinism/destiny and Guts as true free will. Which makes complete sense that theyd be rivals . One does not understand the other but yearns to . Both seem to have an unnatural power that the other cannot fathom .

yeah that a neat metaphor but he said that since Griffith/Femto is an agent of the literal god of Berk-verse, and before he was incarnated he existed "outside the story", the astral word... as Skull knight says the Godhand exist everywhere and nowhere at the same time, they exist everywhere where theres a huge collective of negative thought but in the same time they cannot materialize without special circumstances (occultation/incarnation ceremonies) ... also the words you quoted, how the Hawk exists outside the story was said by Skullknight not by the author :D

I think that the key to defeat Griffith is to expose him to what he is and if that happens, aka, if Guts and/or the others can pull that off, his new world will crumble. I mean it as, because all he wants is for all people to see him as the sole savior of mankind, even commanding demons, to see how awesome he is, but when that shatters, he will feel despair again. Reason is the Moonlight Child within him. Or, it gan get freaking dark, Guts having to kill his own child. The kid would have to choose so too

I always had a hunch that Griffith was prepping Guts as his God Hand replacement to take down the apostles and the Idea of Evil, and that the Moonlight Child is partially Griffith's guilt manifested... That his anger towards Guts and Casca was misguided, and that the thing he truly hate's is that some background "God" was pulling the strings the entire time... The Phantom of the Paradise. The first time Griffith was shown as Femto. It was a movie way back in the mid 70's that took place in the same time so nobody knew what he was talking about, because Griffith is from feudal European times and Femto is a measurement of speed or unit of time. I dunno.

He sacrificed all his "friends" To attain power but guts is still alive So i assume the ending of berserk will have to do with the god hand turning on Griffith for not completing his end of the deal, stripping his powers and then guts will kill him This would make a good video i think, you should think on it

Casca is also still alive, and the moon child links Griffith's heart to humanity, meaning he can't be completely heartless. I think all of these things together will make the Godhand see him as incomplete.

It's a good theory but the sacrifice is more like a symbolism or a mean to an end. Griffith did sacrifice everyone including Guts and Casca, but the Skull knight just saved them. That does not mean they are not branded as sacrifice since Void mark them. Griffith had an audience with that God creature and that thing gave him all of his powers, so it wasn't even the god hand. Griffith is complete, but his mistake was to be reborn in the physical world since deep down he has the heart of a human

I thought there was only like 200 or so members hawk/falcon by the time of the eclipse, not thousands. During the battle of Doldry, they numbered at 1000 as was stated by a general at the war council. After Guts left and the King tried to kill the Hawks, the were reduced to a third, and half of those left. Only hardliners remained and that was about 200. So subracted 15-20 that died in Silats raid, let's day 60 that died at Rickert's camp, and maybe 15 more during Wylde's assault....that leave about 70. If you minimize it maybe 120 tops. You said 1000s died during the eclipse. Even as they gathered after saving Griffith and then learning he was broken...didn't see too many bros there. I would call it about 100. Sorry...been rereading the series during every hiatus and I have read it like 10 times.

To be fair, one can make the argument that Griffith died the moment Femto was born. Though, Griffith was a deeply flawed character and did self destructive acts when he didn’t have Guts to reel him in and keep him grounded. Hence, the entire part where he SA’s Casca wasn’t Griffith anymore but a completely different entity entirely. Edit: Would also like to bring up that the king of Midland liked Griffith and wouldn’t of had an issue in eventually marrying off his daughter to him. The flogging the receives in the dungeon was supposed to be his only punishment for sleeping with his daughter but because he couldn’t keep his mouth shut and showed how treasonous he was, the king couldn’t abide that. Had he simply confessed his love of his daughter and his aspirations to one day rule, had he only apologized.. He would of been spared.

Sure, the power comes from the beliefs of the souls. The line that it takes though, I think it goes through void and then to characters like femto. And before it goes to void, it comes from the idea of evil. The magic and the rituals, in this universe, they are really just like the magic and rituals in our own universe. In reality Griffith could’ve just waited a month or 2 to become a general and then end the king and become the king because that’s how their hierarchy works. But he had to have relations with the princess instead of waiting he threw it all away. Also guts after beating Griffith in their duel he could’ve said he’d come back after learning more about his life and maybe he wouldn’t have done what he’s done.

Anakin was a slave boy who had lost his mother, found true love and decided to prectect padme at any cost, choosing the dark side and destroyng everything. In the end he lost everything and became just a suffering machine, a shell of who he once was. Griffith was just really ambitious and wanted to be king at any cost

I haven't read the manga yet, but knowing that the king of midland has attraction to his own daughter answered my question as to why, despite his kind aura, ended up becoming brutal to Griffith. Griffith though, as I watched the anime, has two critical errors: first is his ideal speech with the princess which Guts heard, causing him to part ways from the Band of the Falcon, and second, his personal advances to the princess that lead into his torture.

You can’t say fuck destiny, even if you don’t want it that doesn’t matter destiny = it will happen. Even if Griffith wasn’t tortured by the king he will be broken somewhere down the line and become Phemto which is the causality of him being broken. Cause and effect, him broken = Phemto

@@Imozart0341I Thats not true. Destiny is given to people in Berserk universe, but they still have option not to accept it to a certain extent. Thats why they say everything is a spiral, the destiny you are talking about means everything is going to keep happening the same way it was destined, but thats simply not true. Most of the times sure, but exceptions and exist and that means chains can be broken, it just not easy. Griffith still made a FREE decision and thats the important thing, causality brought him to moment in time to choose if he wants to do that or not, and both answers were a possibility. Also awareness of causality makes it easier to make better calls.

I had an experience were I watched golden age with an friend and it says alot about Griffiths charisma that he didnt noticed any red flags not even the the evil smiley.Also we all love and admire Guts but you can argue that he deserved alot of the shit, he killed an innocent child, yes he felt guilty, but I think you get the point. Thats top tier character writing, that we are so in love with the charakters that we often oversee the evil in their actions.

Anyone ever heard of something called a “femtometer” it’s 10^-15 meters. 1.6 Fm is roughly the size of protons and neutrons. I was thinking it’s interesting because it’s such a crazy “negative” # obviously Griffith fell deep into the abyss, he went far into the negative. Also Fm is used to measure and describe what makes the fabric of reality. Idk I find it really interesting, and I am curious how the name Femto was picked.

Light Yagami is almost like Griffith Jr. Both are pretty boy, ambitious narcissists with some very confusing feelings about how the feel about their main rival/bff Both defeat their rivals and ascend to "god hood." Both have an arc where they lose part of themselves. Both are excellent manipulators who themselves can't see that they are being manipulated by a greater evil. Both betrayed everything and everyone they ever cared about to become new beings in exchange for power. And in all honesty, I don't think Guts will be the one to defeat Griffith for 2 reasons. 1) That doesn't seem to be the theme of the story and Guts has moved past that 2) A warrior's death is too good for Griffith. Griffith will most likely have a death that is deeply humiliating and is caused by his own hubris. Have you noticed how in the past 4/5 God hand where different members? Ever wonder what happened to the other 4? It's likely that they were pulled into the abyss/ Hell. Just as Griffith will be.

@runthatback323 respectfully, thats the very definition of evil. IE: All that matters is his goals, any harm that comes from it is jus the price HE is willing for YOU to pay. In the end Griffith is the definition of petty, manipulative, narcissistic selfishness that garbs himself in nobility and righteousness. The only redeeming thing he had was the Band of the Hawk itself, this family he built around himself. His bond with Casca and Guts in particular. The godhand may have pushed him over the edge at exactly the right moment, but the seeds for Femto where there right from the start. In the end there isn't anything that Griffith isn't willing to sacrifice for his dream. My question: What happens when he get his 'Dream'? Will it be enough? Or will his ego be the thing that brings it all down, just as before, and possibly giving Guts and co the opening they need.

@jackgibson16, I would like to clarify that it was a translation error that occurred in the naming of the Band of the Hawk. The original name intended by Kentaro Miura was the Band of the Falcon, inspired by the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars. The helmet of Femto/Griffith was designed to resemble a falcon's head. Unfortunately, due to a kanji character mix-up, the name was mistakenly translated as the Band of the Hawk in the english version. Most wikis have since corrected this error and now refer to the group as the Band of the Falcon or the Falcon of Light. I hope this clarification is helpful
