It is SO freaking cool that you got to do this! Like, I’m so happy for you right now! The Lightning could have beaten down here but instead they embraced the less traditional coverage and someone from outside their organization. So props to them! But especially all the props to you cause you’ve earned this through years of hard, high quality work but especially with everything you do on this channel! The quality of this vid is amazing once again! So, NHL teams, take notice and invite Chris to all your jersey launches from now on! It’ll be the most high-quality (free) promo you’ll ever get! And in regards to the jersey? I like it! I’m a sucker for a black base and I like how they took those classic elements, modernized them a bit and then brought them together. I already liked the jersey, but seeing it whole uniform makes it a real beaut. The Victory Stripes going down into the socks is a genius idea, the alternate logo looks GREAT, and the NUMBERS!!! That white with the blue shadow just looks fantastic. Definitely near the top of my jersey wishlist. So awesome that you were able to go to the unveiling-for your team, no less!!

Hopefully, this top-notch production convinces more teams to bring you over for similar jersey reveals. I wasn't sold immediately on that 3rd, but learning about how the stripes on the arms come from the victory stripes, it makes a lot more sense. Plus, the numbers in the back look so good!

I knew some of the details before the leak, but I didn’t go to Tampa for this shoot until two weeks after the leak. From there, I was only given access on the agreement I wouldn’t release anything until the team was ready to launch.

First time seeing this jersey was on your thumbnail on Twitter and all I said to myself was "oh wow they went with a black alternate, looks ok" then after watching this I absolutely love them! I have a special affinity for the Lightning as they were the last team the Hartford Whalers played in 1997. I was never overly fond of their original jerseys. I think they are looking their absolute best now. I don’t think enough teams consider the entire package from head to toe as Tampa has with this release.

That is super cool! The 2004 photo is wild, my father and I were on the other side of the cup run, traditionally Oilers fans from Edmonton, we knew plenty of Flames fans who were right in thick of it during that finals, what a run for both clubs that spring!

Haha, crazy right? That’s me and my dad in that photo. Game 6 in Calgary was on my birthday (same as Gelinas, oddly enough) and I remember watching on TV-stunned that we were actually getting a Game 7 back home. Amazing series for sure!

@@icethetics My Dad was on the Red Mile in Calgary (like the busiest street in town) during game 6 visiting some friends from university watching the crowd ready to blow up in OT, one goal away from winning it all, pretty crazy stuff. What a crazy world that was, back to back years of Alberta teams in the SCF losing in 7 to non traditional hockey market teams haha.

I agree with that. When the Lightning came into the league, they had a color scheme no other team had ever used and none has used since. That black, blue and silver combo really needs to come back.

Excellent video!! And it's amazing that Tampa Bay asked you to do this, let's hope many more teams do the same in the future. Now as for the jersey, it's ok if a little on the safe side, could do with a bit more colour in the shoulder area, a shoulder patch version of the normal logo or even better a shoulder patch version of the gasparilla logo, love the number kit they've used and the jersey looks so much better customised than blank. 7.5 / 10.

Icethetics this is so cool! As a huge tampa bay fan and hockey jersey fan it was really cool to find out your a bolts fan too! What a cool experience you got to come down and experience the BTS of the jersey unveiling! My jaw was on the floor when i saw this video pop up on my subscriber lists! I love the gasparilla jersey's and was glad I was able to snag one so I am unsure if I will get this one. The letters/numbers are great and I love the victory stripes reference but i'm not sure I'll be adding this one to my collection.

And I do have to say I’ve seen a few people suggesting the original 1992 Lightning logo as the crest... but I’m not sure I agree. That logo was just bad design and I think people look back on nostalgically because of the Cup.

It’s funny, when I was a kid drawing my own jersey concepts, I always put those underarm stripes on every team. Didn’t realize it was a special feature of Lightning jerseys until years later!

Haha, yeah I guess we kept that a pretty good secret. Thank goodness for Espo! And technically, the city itself is just Tampa. Tampa Bay refers to the body of water alongside, but I think I read the Buccaneers liked the nautical sound of Tampa Bay and how it was more encompassing of the entire region... and so it’s been adopted by every local sports team since!

Awesome you got that access! I like the jersey more now, seeing it all, but I do still feel like the logo would be better without the thick surrounding circle with the text. Just a bolt in a thin circle would be better in my eyes. But there's a lot to love with this jersey. Being in black again is definitely sharp, and I looooove the jersey numbers, how they come out with the blue 3D. Great stuff overall. 😊 Edit: and with 3 Cups, 3 victory stripes on the sleeves makes sense. And three on the socks separately is just a separate emphasis on their three Cups while throwing back to their old jerseys. Good stuff.

Amazing video and great insight. My favorite part about these are the numbers and the gloves, so tired of boring gloves. The width of the stripes just don't look right to me, makes them look like a kid wearing an adult jersey. Also not a fan of the laces but that is on Adidas.

Would love to know if you think there will be player backlash when fanatics takes over. With the mlb players speaking out about the quality of the new "Nike" branded fanatics made jerseys. Also super dope they invited you out good stuff

Hopefully what’s happening in the MLB will be a learning opportunity before we get to this point in the NHL. Fanatics is essentially taking over Adidas production processes for next season, so the real test will be 2026 or so when they introduce their own jerseys.

I have that info! It happened twice in the 2016-17 season-December 29 and March 16. The Lightning wore their black BOLTS jersey... and the Leafs won both games. 😒

Will all of the league's primary jerseys be redesigned when Fanatics takes over?

No, not in 2024 at least. They are working on a new template of their own, a la Edge and Adizero, but that’s not due out until at least 2026-27. For the next couple years, the jerseys will be the same style but with a Fanatics logo on the back.

These jerseys are pretty sharp. it's too bad the lightning and sharks can't play each other in their new thirds.

I think Tampa’s new third jersey could really use a blue waist stripe. To me this new jersey looks a bit incomplete without one.

The Lightning should use literally anything other than their current home and away jerseys, which rip off the Leafs colours and the Wings striping. They used to have a cool, unique aesthetic, and now they're among the blandest, most uninspired teams in the league.

Shame because both their previous reverse retros proved otherwise. The 1.0 is easily the best in their history, and it could've worked as a new homem

@@shawklan27 If they were so insistent on making blue their primary colour, the blue reverse retro would have been a perfectly fine primary design. Then you could have had a blue, white and black version of it. A perfect set.

I agree with the Wings/Leafs rip-off, but since the Bolts won two cups in those jerseys, you can't mess with the mojo!

That’s fair. They do have an alternate version that reads “ESTABLISHED 1992” at the bottom, used as their 2014 third jersey shoulder patch. I wonder if that would’ve been a better play here? I’ll admit there’s a bit of a disconnect between their slogan “Earned Our Stripes” and what seems like a reminder that they’re a hockey club. Very minor thing, though.
