I don't know why - but it was enjoyable watching someone else take the time to do the stuff we do at home when experimenting with new equipment, or configurations, or placement.... it is time consuming... but the chase is the best part - knowing there is a great payoff once completed. I am looking to either add and upgrade my speakers to Arendal 1723 Thx or Klipsch rf7iii out of the 2 which do you prefer. I'm 80% movies and 20% music. I listen at about 60-65db depending on content and 75db reference for occasional demo of a scene. My room is 15ft x 15ft x 8ft ceiling. What would you recommend

@Youthman
@Youthman 8 ай бұрын
Why speakon? Typically Neutrik speakON connections are used in pro audio systems. Most home theater speakers and amps will accept bare wire, spades, or banana plugs. You would need to have a speakON adapter for each cable end (which would not be ideal at all).
@12P14D22C
@12P14D22C 8 ай бұрын
@@Youthman i have diy speakers and put speak on on everything. My amps all have speak on out, or pheonix. But speakon is the easiest to securely Insert. Can do it blind from the Front with my Hand reeaching behind the speaker in most cases. If everything would be speak on it would simply be the best way to connect speakers imo. Also speak on can be 4 pin or even more. So my active speakers that need multiple cables can be all in 1 speak on connector. No Chance of Sending woofer Signal to the tweeters etc pp.
@Youthman
@Youthman 8 ай бұрын
The application for speakON would be very specific, and very small in the home theater community. But if it works for your set up, that’s great but it’s certainly not for the majority of people.

No worries on forgetting to put the screen down first. I noticed it but it made me think of countless goofs I’ve had to redo. I’m such a rookie by comparison but appreciate seeing others be real vs always edited and flawless. It really helps by giving us pointers as to doing stuff. The video was great. My basement is unfinished and a work in progress. One day in a few years you could come to Wisconsin for a home theater tour if you wanted to do a series on people that have imperfect rooms and used equipment collections based on budget. Example I just entered the realm of separates with a used Marantz av 7705 and two Marantz amps. I’m having fun and will keep watching your videos

Thank you for the kind words Brian. I agree, it’s easy to look at social media and think everyone has it all together but we have to realize that the vastAq show you only their best side, their best photos, and their best edited videos. But people relate to imperfection.

I don't think any review (speaking generally) stands on its own. Every piece of gear is only as good as the other piece of gear that is the reference point in its class. The reference is generally a similar price point and class, like a $1500 floor standing speaker compared to another $1500 floor standing speaker.
@Youthman

Different prices but I still consider these mid-tier category. Not budget, but also not high end either. Plus they all have similar size cabinets and drivers. Might be worth comparing. Who knows. Arendal 1723 - $3,699 pair Klipsch RF7 III - $4,400 pair MartinLogan F200 - $5,500 pair

Speaker review idea/solution: Buy a Denon AVR-X8500H or AVR-A1H. This will be your dedicated receiver for reviewing speakers. Trick - Place the AVR in your cabinet with the back of the unit facing the front. This way, you can quickly hook up speaker wires. There is space in your cabinet to accomplish this.

Having an extra AVR’s turned around backwards is not a bad idea. But then you also will have the issue of needing to get HDMI to the Projector, connecting sources that I would need to disconnect from my main system and then connect to the separate AVR. Apart from having an entirely separate system in the room, or having a separate room with an entirely different system, I’m not sure there’s a great solution.
@kevonmanuel
@kevonmanuel 8 ай бұрын
@@Youthman For the HDMI issue, you can use an HDMI switch with a minimum of 4 inputs and 2 outputs. Both your processor and the new AVR will connect to the switch inputs. The Switch output will connect to the Projector (using your existing cable). Switching from Processor to AVR and back can be programmed via the Harmony remote.

You know you do this often enough. Have you considered making yourself a more accessible patch panel so you don't have to get down to your amp every time or even a "review" amp like a 2nd av7706 in the space. Dedicated for reviewing speakers so you don't have to disconnect your stuff every time?
@Youthman
@Youthman 8 ай бұрын
It absolutely has crossed my mind. There are several issues though in my current space. 1) I'm almost out of space in my cabinet. I have one spot (far right) that I can add a component. 2) Even if I had a second AV7706, I would need another dedicated amplifier for reviews (again, where would I put it). I'm not sure there is a good solution other than how I've been doing it over the past 5 years. My "Dream Big" is to eventually move to a new home which I can have a dedicated space to review products or I lease a studio that I can use to review gear. Unfortunately, the amount I make on each review video from Adsense does not justify leasing a Studio each month.

Hi Michael, just a thought, it might be an ideal if you get some speaker junction boxes, so you don’t need to keep connecting in speaker wires, when you’re reviewing speakers.

It actually is easier than you think. Anytime I review a product, I review it based on its own merits. For example, it would not be fair for me to compare every ultra short throw projector that I have reviewed with my JVC NZ8. So I simply share from a consumers perspective what I like and what I dislike about a particular product. Sometimes I will do side-by-side comparisons between one product and another, especially if they’re in the same price point.

You need a patch panel for your speaker connections. Then all you need to do is unplug yours from the front of inside the cabinet and plug in the new gear.

@Youthman I see what you do behind the scenes. If I can make a couple suggestions most likely you already know. Get yourself a buddy. They can help you run wire and move speakers. When it comes to your wires I will already preset them up before the next video. So it won't be too much on you to run wires. I would roll up the wires that's going to be for review. And leave them behind the case. You have carpet so you can hide your subwoofer wires and leave them behind or on the side of your room. I love the concept that you bring to us. But also I don't want you to kill yourself. You can do it right but I don't want you to kill yourself . Get yourself a buddy that's interested in the Hobby as well that lives close. Keep up the good work, and if you do choose to do it like this again please. make sure you have a buddy.. don't forget Michael we are not getting Young anymore.
