I met Woody at a Medal of Honor convention and he told me that Japanese bullets hit his tank but bounced off because they hit at such a sharp angle. He kept his nose as close to the ground as possible and that was difficult due to the hot volcanic sand.

My great grandpa served in ww2, and died in 1990. He served in the pacific, as an AA gun spotter/director. to sum it up, he showed gunners where/what planes to shoot down. One day in the pacific, he assisted gunners in shooting down 11 Japanese planes. My father and I did some research recently, and we found navy documents, the ship he served on (the AGC-2 USS Blue Ridge amphibious landing craft carrier), when he joined, a relative who served with him on the blue ridge, etc. I live in honor of his service, and strive in following him into the military. Thank you Great Grandpa Clarence!

Years ago I got to meet him. He came to Clarksburg WV and was our Parade Marshal for Veterans Day once. I was the lead Police Officer to start the parade and got to shake his hand. I was thanking him for his sacrifice and what he had done for our country and a more humble guy you’d probably never meet. He was trying to thank me for leading the parade and there I stood feeling like I didn’t deserve to stand in his shadow. Super Super Great Guy!👍🇺🇸

What a beautiful video. Your channel is so special and important. I think it matters that you’re young and producing material of this nature because I sometimes think our generation doesn’t feel the grip of history as relevant, or the sacrifices of those who went before us as meaningful. We take so much for granted. Hearing these memories, and the bravery and fear of those young men confronted with the reality of brutal warfare should humble any ego. What a different time, when soldiers were drafted or volunteered from all walks of life, who saved saved the future for us and lost so much in the process. The further we get from this place in time, the more valuable your documentation will become. Thank you for doing this. Every contribution to our heroes matters.

I wish this was around when my great uncle had been alive. He served under Patton. In Germany, he slept and woke to a night attack where he woke up and sat in his bed for a few seconds. He heard a bullet fly by his head and he saved the bullet he dug out of the wooden headboard he was in. He had WWII memorabilia from Nazi soldiers, Nazi flags, and other amazing WWII artifacts. Sadly, his partners family stole it from our family about 10 years ago and we've never seen it since. I do have his memoir of those years that he typed up of his life story. This further makes me want to share it.

I am currently working on a P51B/C Mustang and listening your interview of the Tuskegee pilot who flew that very plane has been a significant motivator for the project.
