Unfortunately they are disappearing as many smaller parks are feeling the pinch in the modern economy. Owners give up with rising insurance and staff and electrical cost, then sell the rides and the land and pack it in. The contents of these Tracy dark rides get sold off piecemeal, some never to scare their patrons again.

I saw your first Waldameer video for the first time the other day. I’ve been to the park a couple times as a kid and I completely forgot the Wacky Shack existed! But I instantly remembered that it scared the absolute hell out of me as a kid. Thanks for brining that back. That was fun. Seeing it all lit up is fascinating.

Lol I’m right down the road from there! I don’t usually check my subs page (usually my reccomnded page is full of stuff). But I happened to catch this video right at upload! 💜 I’ve always loved Randy! I used to go to waldameer all the time when I was younger with my cousin and he used to operate the dark rides and we’d talk to him (when he was working pirates cove), and he’d give us some cool information on the dark rides Later on, I found out that he was responsible for restoring these rides, and I always thought that that was so amazing! He’s so passionate about his art, and maintaining the legacy of these rides, and I just love that so much. Thank you SOO much to you and Randy for creating such an amazing tour of this lovely ride (I was deathly afraid of it as a child, I rode it with my grandpa when I was three and it traumatized me, lol and then I refused to ride it until I was 12 😂) Now I love it, like most people. Much love and blessings!💜 hope that you enjoyed your second time in Erie!

Everyone that lives in Erie complains about the place but they don't understand the gem that we have here. We have a state park with beaches on a great lake, ample opportunities to hike, bike, walk, and waldameer at the entrance to the lake. Erie is awesome. They had a Whacky Shack at Idorha Park in Youngstown, Oh. not to far from Eerie. Sadly it closed down in 1987 after a tremendous fire broke out in 84 destroying the Wildcat Rollercoaster, the Lost River ride and the main office where all the records were kept. It was one of the top 5 oldest amusement parks in America back then. I believe their Whacky Shack went to Eerie.

Many elements of the Wacky Shack reminded me of The Golden Nugget at Roseland Park (closed in 1985) in Canadaigua, NY. A beautiful amusement park on the shores of Canadaigua Lake. I cried on my last visit, it was my childhood park. The carousel from the park is now in Destiny USA in Syracuse. The roller coaster, The Skyliner, is now at Lakemont Park in Altoona, Pa. Jacob rode The Skyliner last year in his video at Lakemont Park.

This is an excellent look at two of Tracy's creations. My parents first brought me to Waldameer the year the Pirate's Cove opened. It and the Whacky Shack are still my favorite rides there. You mentioned that some of the sounds came from a defunct amusement park. It was Idora Park in Youngstown, Ohio. They had a Whacky Shack there, but it wasca funhouse, not a dark ride. The park did have two dark rides built by Tracy; the Gold Nugget, which was later remodeled into the Kooky Castle.

I was a northeastern Brownie in 1970, but we didn't get to go to Waldameer. I think our biggest field-trip took us from grade school to the community center where most of our troop meetings were held, & we made God's-eyes & other crafties to gift our folks with. We proceeded from there to our troop leader's large, grassy, front lawn where we made S'mores. Her house sat between Brookhaven Elementary, Brookhaven Community Center, & La Mesa Mobile-Home Park, where many of us lived. After the S'mores cookout, we called it a day & walked the short distance home to play, have dinner & do our homework. Wish I would've been in the Whacky-Shack-riding Brownie troop - their field trips seemed much more adventuresome than ours were.
