You've got your RD-8 and you want to make your first beat. Well, out of the box there are a few bumps to get over but let me guide you through the first missteps and into drum machine heaven.
And if you're wondering why you're not getting the filter in your headphones it's because that's by design - the headphone output is before the FX section. So you'll only hear the filter on the master output! I know, right. But get this - your headphones will also work fine in the Mono master output where you will hear the filter - so just use that!

It happened to me recently when I turned it on for the first time in ages. I can't remember how I fixed it but I did. First of all check that you are getting something from the individual outputs - if that's working then it must just be a setting, like all the mutes are on or something. It's very frustrating - i remember that much :D

Hi! Thanks for the great guide, helped me a lot to get started without having to read the manual! Just received my RD8 a few days ago and I sure am having fun with it! :) I discovered that the FX section (wave designer and filter) also bypasses the individual voice outputs! Or am I doing something wrong!? If this is correct, then it's a real shame and limitation as when one wants to send each individual voice to a mixer (to apply different effects to the individual voices for example) you will find that the wave designer and filter doesn't work! I also find it limiting that the accent function applies the accent to every voice that falls on the accented step...i.e, one cannot apply accents to individual voices! This I find very limiting when wanting to create groovy patterns...for example simulating ghost notes on the snare, or creating a swinging high hat pattern etc... but anyway, all in all, I am very happy with this machine, despite these limitations one can get really creative! :)
@MoltenMusicTech
@MoltenMusicTech 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's right. The wave designer is only present on the main outputs. So it's like an added thing that wasn't on the originals that we get to complain about because it's not everywhere.

@MoltenMusicTech
@MoltenMusicTech 2 жыл бұрын
Could you be more specific? If you want to record the sound of anything into FL Studio you have to plug that sound into the audio inputs on your computer. So, with the RD-8 you could take a cable, plug it into the output on the RD-8 and plug the other end into the audio input on your computer - ideally that's a USB audio interface of some kind, right? Does that help?

I think most people using one of these have it running through a mixer so if you wanted to use headphones from the mixer you would get the fx path. Having phones going independently through the unit alone would only have a real use in performance with the ability to monitor the signal for blending other instruments

Then why have a headphone output at all? It’s a fair criticism I think that the headphone output is the only output on any piece of gear I’ve come across that doesn’t contain the output. @@MoltenMusicTech maybe you are right...Im sure there would be a way to route the signal to have both or to select the signal path using a button. They are pretty smart over at Behringer. I always wanted a 808 for as long as I can remember but today I am so tired of that sound I am not sure anymore. There are so many ways to create beats today and these drum machines tend to sound old, static and robotic. Can anyone recommend a beat machine that has feeling like a real drummer?

I think you're probably looking for loops?
@ShanghaiRooster
@ShanghaiRooster 4 жыл бұрын
I think it's called a real drummer! Some of the 'life' that older records have comes from the fact that drummers would imperceptibly speed up and slow down during a song; not so much that non-musicians would notice it though. Nowadays, most drummers record to a click track, so even the humans can sound robotic. One of the down-sides of computerised recording. Whether there are any machines out there which can mimic a non-clicked drummer who can say. Might be you'd need some kind of AI in the mix.

At present, modular is an aspiration for me rather than any kind of reality.

You actually can program the note repeats. Just remember the steps you wish to alter with note repeat, press [SETTINGS] and step key 11 (RPT), press the step you want (lights up red), then select the repeat type (2, 4 and 8) and make sure to activate note repeat as well. You cannot select a number of steps at once but you don't have to leave the page to do the next one, you only have to do them one at a time.

Molten Music Technology You just need to make sure to be on the right pattern page for the steps you wish to alter and remember to activate both keys - number of repeats and the note repeat button so that they are lit for every step you want to have repeats on. When switching steps you have to press these buttons again. Obviously the repeat button labelled "1" doesn't have an effect in a 1/16 scale or higher, only when using 1/8 or 1/8T. Edit: Sorry, I just checked and realized that the step repeat button "1" basically has no effect on any step no matter which scale you're using. These repeats should obviously not be seen as 1/16 or 1/32 but simply as the number of hits placed on a single step. And since one single hit ("1") actually doesn't repeat anything at all this means that this key only affects the step repeat mode, not note repeat.

Your introduction makes no sense, hey let's do something wicked and turn all the tuning up like a madmen, the orange indicator on the bass tune is to tell you where the setting is of the original tr-808

You don’t have to do that. There was no new firmware when I made the video - it works ok as it is

Sure I have, mate. I buy and resell it for a living, and test everything myself before doing so. At a certain point, you get burned out on the feeling.
