@@justaname1862 well yea its a copy or clone. What ever you wanna call it but can you find a roland tr808 for less than $2000. I don't think so. The rd-8 sounds great for what it is. a price tag of $299 And it has better features than a true tr808. Behringer have really stepped up their game with these drum machines. I can't wait to get my hands on one. Gonna get the rd-9 also. They're coming out close to the end of the year. Should be around late September.

The only reason this exists is because Roland won't make it. I don't feel the slightest bit bad that Behringer saw the demand and moved on it. Roland could have been making these for almost 40 years now and didn't.

The original Roland 808 used defective transistors to generate its unique sound. As the semiconductor industry got better the defective transistors ceased to exist. Of course there are probably ways around it but just thought I would share some history :)

I’d like to see a video where someone compares this agains Roland tr-08, but then also with some sort of analog distortion plugin on the tr-08. The outputs are cool on this but the usb out is super convenient on rolands. I feel like you could run it through something like kazrogs true iron and get close, but I’m speculating.

Roland has said publicly in a documentary that I watched that they never like to do the same thing twice. They would always rather make something new, even if it is not as popular, then put out the same stuff over and over. This is why I feel they did not re-issue and 808 or a 909 until the TR eight came out, with its many improvements in terms of workflow and USB audio streaming.

Behringer has the perfect business plan: Take all the old stuff we love and make it again.
@kingsouther
@kingsouther 5 жыл бұрын
@Boofsquad I think the reason they are good at producing remakes is because behringer were the company who factory produced the originals back in the day, so they had the plans anyway. And the patent has run after 30 40 years. The fact that the originals are so expensive now, I quite favour behringers clone approach now as it gives the next generation a chance to use it without having to be rich to do it.

This is by far the best idea Behringer had so far. Look the products that Roland is putting out in the market, with no vision behind it, no new ideas, no inspiration. They can't even hold up to their legacy products. And here comes Behringer to take their legendary 808 to the next step. Shame on Roland, well done Behringer, you got my respect today.

Basically, an analog drum starship in a little box. Dag, yo, that's some hot business with probability plus polymetric programming per part to n/64 steps. Basically you can put a whole track into a single pattern that will come out different every time you perform it. If this can send out midi note on/off and such, that alone makes it one of the coolest pattern sequencers for drums available, and definitely the best at this price.

Roland: "Hey kids, love the shitty 808 workflow but using digital emulation? Awesome! Because that's what made the 808 cool with the kids, right?" Uli: "I'll just do the opposite of what Roland did and see how that sells... for $300ish dollars. Because I can."

@5:00 I was wondering if they'd cloned the faulty/odd behaviour with the clap reverb from the original, where the first couple of hits don't have reverb, and it seems they have, in a way. (I only know about this because the Yocto clone I built has the same behaviour...)

@@MrMargaretScratcher I don't mind too much about the quirky stuff, I have a step sequencer that only has 15 dedicated buttons and one that has to do multiple functions, it isn't even along the bottom with the rest of them. But love using it.

@crolodon8024
@crolodon8024 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah our boys in the video are talking like there's room for both in the market, and they make like there's still a reason to buy the Boutique with USB audio outs, but if we're honest it's Game Over. On the Behringer you can run your individual outs into real effect pedal or rack gear, and that's the real deal. The most bizarre thing is that Roland themselves could have made a full size analog 808 MKII, and even if it was priced $100 more than the Behringer it would have killed... but they didn't.

Crolodon-Roland no longer has the infrastructure to create analog hardware hence the SE-02 by Studio Electronics. It would involve footwork that frankly aren’t interested in doing.

To the people who have been hearing "this old one doesn't sound like the record and the new one sounds like the record" if you have an original 808 the thing is they added compression and saturation and EQ. That's it.
