It is a business first and foremost, another thing and word of advice on situations such as these, if you are not sure about your safety (like there is a real risk) just call security to assist with holding the pt and you can safely do the care. Take your time, do not rush into something if you are not sure, you will not lose your employment for taking precautionary steps.

My friend works in NYP Columbia Neuro ICU and loves it. They keep to ratios, culture is very positive and nurses are extremely supportive. I worked at JHMC during the pandemic, med surg unit (first covid unit for the hospital) and that was rough!!! Ended up with PTSD. That era in NYC was crazy. Trailers were packed, units were over flowed, patients were passing left and right..... such a tough time. I'm not very entrepreneurial, my wife is, and I like stability. Applying for PMHNP program. I have friends who are real estate investors..... they live life with a lot of anxiety..... not something I want to live with.

I am shocked the hospital has not been shut down yet, to be honest. But it's the facility where stroke cases, traumas, and patients from the airport get transported to, so the city heavily relies on them.

This episode is so hilarious! She was so excited (very cute btw) when she was sharing her experience in NYP Columbia and then you had to stop in the middle and do the Psa. It was amazing how nurses can have such different experiences working in different departments in a same facility. It can be very misleading for some people. Good thing that you worked there before as a staff nurse, so you had a broader perspectives. I can relate because I also worked at NYP Columbia as a travel nurse back in 2018. It was a med surg unit and it was rough😂 I don’t miss that at all! Higher acuity pt compared to other med surg in general. They even have a few ventilator beds open in Med Surg unit which I was shocked. Good thing as a traveler I didn’t have to take any vent pt.

My personal experience of working in NYP Cornell is horrible. Nurses are Cranky to each other and burned out, pissed even the NA's and Secretaries like Gods and treat nurses like a trash. I like working in NYP lower Manhattan better. She is right, one of the best during the pandemic was a free hotel accomodation even in the expensive hotels in Manhattan and Free breakfast, lunch and dinner. I feel you with regards to patients who are abusing us, patients and their families obviously asking me where did i graduate and why i went to the US? Those questions are simple but telling a lot of redflag about those people who still have the feeling that they are superior than anyone else. Hi Jason, did you say the US is the only country that pay nurses the most? I am curious if what I heard before that Australia pay the most?🧐

Lois here! Great question, u will be able to leverage your nursing education from an African country, however u will be required to take the NCLEX and sometimes even, a course/class in addition in preparation for the NCLEX. I have family members who were licensed nurses in Ghana but still had to take classes in the USA & still had to take the NCLEX when coming here. Nursing is different over there vs here so the Board of Nursing will make sure ur USA competent. Hope that helps 💕
