Bell MX 9 Adventure Helmet Review www.revzilla.co...
Brand new for 2015, the Bell MX-9 Adventure Barricade helmet is a blast of graphical excellence in a highly advanced lid from Bell. Built on a polycarb construction, the ADV inspired lid has a peak that has been specially designed to be more aerodynamic on the highway than it’s contemporaries. However, if you chose to go without, that’s fine too. Intermediate oval in head shape, it comes in three shell sizes, looks extremely aggressive, and comes at an entry-level price point.

RevZilla thanks Drew. I actually got to look at an MX-9 today and the only difference besides the shield is the front grill air vent thing can be closed off on the adv version where as the base MX-9 it can't. End game is to get a Sena to talk with some friends on longer rides but want to make sure they can hear. I may just tape those vents up for long rides and see if the mic doesn't pick up too much wind noise.

Tried this helmet out on a test ride, ZLA is correct, with the visor attached the helmet pulls your neck at 70+mph. So dual sport is limited but the fit is great and comfy. My test ride was on a naked bike. Nice breakdown ZLA!!!

Like a dummy I bought the Bell MX-9 (non-ADV) for off-roading on my WR this spring before looking at all the options. Now that I have been doing some longer weekend trips I have been looking at the MX-9 ADV version. Besides the face shield, is there any other differences between the two? If not I would probably just run goggles and save myself the $200... or is the faceshield (and are there other differences/features?) worth another $200? Thanks RZ!

I am wondering your opinion between this Bell MX-9 Adventure and the Fly Trekker. I cant find any good comparisons between these two hats anywhere on the net. I am wondering which is more comfortable for all day riding? The Bell seems like to be maybe a bit better quality but there are some better features on the Fly in my opinion. I like that the fly has more than one adjustable vent on the helmet, help to stay warm when riding on cool days, also I like that you can adjust the angle of the peak by just loosening the nut instead of having to remove it like the Bell requires. Am I missing anything between these two? If you had to recommend one which would you choose? Thanks
@RevZilla

Nice review as usual. I have a very low end Bilt brand helmet that I started on and really need a visor 'cause I just hate the sun in my face. I do however ride long stretches of highway and use a Sena. I had no issues installing my Sena on my helmet and managed to clamp it just fine, no ear pockets either. I do feel them but its not unbearable. Question, have you installed a com unit on these using clamping? Are you saying clamping is impossible due to the thickness? Also, regarding the visor at highway speeds, is it just noise and a bit of head movement induced by the sail effect, or are we talking head torquing nightmare when looking around? Thanks alot?
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 8 жыл бұрын
The only way to use a clamp would be to actually modify the trim and make an incision to allow the clamp to slide in-between the shell and EPS liner. However, most have no issues with the adhesive mounts Sena includes with their headsets. As for buffeting at speed or during head checks, you will see this to some extent with virtually every dual-sport helmet due to the peak visor and overall design. If you spend the majority of your time on-road, you may want to stick with a normal full face helmet. -TeamZilla AJ

Hey revzilla this or the afx fx41ds? The only thing I'm worried about the afx is the chin strap not being a double dring. How are your experiences with those straps? Because I like the afx more because it also has that internal sun visor, but the strap is putting me off.

As a rule, we keep all our face shields in inventory unopened in their packaging. As we don't have any removed from the packaging, we unfortunately cannot provide any photos of the shields on the helmet. I am looking for an adventure style helmet and this helmet looks really cool, but the Nexx XD1, although a little bit more expensive, seems to be much better. Is the price difference worth my money?
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 8 жыл бұрын
+João Almeida The Bell is a really great value, and they keep the cost down by using a more affordable polycarbonate shell. The Nexx is also good but has a higher price due to its expensive X-MATRIX composite shell. If you want the helmet to be a little stronger, a little lighter, and a little more compact, then the Nexx may be worth the extra cost. -DrewZilla

Heavily debating this based on costs. I was ready to get a Shoei RF 1200 before seeing this. The MX 9 is exactly what I'm looking for. Only concern...does it work with the person who wears glasses? The RF 1200 has the pad cutouts. Anyone have any experience?
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 7 жыл бұрын
For wearing glasses with the MX-9 Adventure, it really depends on facial structure and the shape of the glasses frames. I personally can wear my glasses with this helmet, but the RF-1200 is much more comfortable for glasses. Jason Culbertson I'm a pretty tough critic on gear (it's my job), but I was actually pleasantly surprised with the quality of this helmet. It's doesn't have a fancy composite shell, but making the shell from polycarbonate keeps the cost down, and there aren't a lot of mid-range dual sport helmets, so I think it fills a gap in the market. -DrewZilla
