Hey BP Friends! It's time for another update video! This is at week 61, or 1 year & 2 months into my recovery.
My BP eye still twitches quite a bit and the synkinesis is still very noticeable to me, but most people (including my doctors) think that I am improving... some even go as far as to say I'm 100% recovered. Who am I to point out my residuals to non BP sufferers? ;) If they want to think I'm 100% recovered, I say LET THEM! It makes me feel good that my face isn't receiving the opposite reaction: "Oh, too bad you haven't recovered completely!"
PS... If someone says that to you, you have my permission to punch them in the mouth and ask them "Now you know how I feel! Has the paralysis kicked in yet?" JERKS! Don't play that game!
Here's to a healthy, happy future! Residuals and ALL! XOXO

@djPirooz Thanks for the positive compliments! :) I am really happy with my recovery too... I know I'm not 99.9% recovered though ;) Please do not force those facial movements too early... be kind to your injured facial nerve by giving it time to rest!

Hello fit girl! I have been living with bells palsy now for 48 days and it has been a roller coaster ride emotionally so far. I always loved to smile and now I look weird when I do. In the beginning I went for microcurrency, acupuncture, I saw a naturopath, went to a osteopath for cranial sacral therapy now I am thinking about reflexology. I feel like I am grasping at straws here, I just want to get better now! You do inspire me and you give me hope. Thank you thank you thank you!

I'm 7 years down the line and i still feel pain in my face at times.... It sucks because at times i don't feel normal. I didn't fully recover but people really don't notice it. The twitching is good, that means your movement is coming back. I always look forward to twitching lol. All i can really do is keep a possitve attitude about it. Goodluck the heeling! I'm so happy for you and your success.

Hi, I know exactly what you are talking about, I too have the same exact twitching and sometimes pain behind my ears. Since Im out 5 yrs I have learned to accept it and deal with it. My eye looks the same as yours and I think its ok. I do try to control my eye by not laughing so hard or squintining my other eye more so I dont look like what I think other people see. I think you have a great attitude!! hang in there, btw I love zumba too

I will hold off on the tens now I was told to start it right away. I have been going to the chrio since day one and I think it helps too. Thanks for the up date you look good I wish I someday get into the mind set you are in,I let this get me depressed and not wanting to go out of the house much. But my friends are a great help. I am off work for 10 days so maybe the break will help me to not deal with the stress of work. you are what keeps me going and have faith I will recover

i read somewhere that some lady rubbed kefir on her skin and it helped with the paralysis, now i just have to get myself a kefir grain to make some to see if it actually works. i had it when i was 13 and i'm 41 now. have a bit of wonk eye and a little bit of uneveness in my face.

@chrouda Yes, you WILL get your face back... I'm glad that my videos are helping you mentally feel secure in that fact! Believe me, I had MANY DAYS that I thought the paralysis would NEVER go away... but look at me know! So much better, maybe not perfect or back to my old self, but definitely at a place that I can LIVE with, without obsessing that people are staring at me and my weird facial movements! XOXO Get plenty of rest!!!

@Skhan27 Congratulations for your recovery, albeit slow... it was complete! I personally believe there IS a hereditary connection (genetic predisposition) to Bell's Palsy. My mother has had it also. A friend of mine and her sister has had it. A coworker has a father and all his father's brothers have experience it!!! So many signs point to a LINK!

I did not feel any pain for the first week, it came on the second week it went from my forehead down to my lower neck my vision in my right eye is still a blur,I have been putting tons of drops in due it it drys out fast been to the optometrist they say the vision will clear up when I start to blink. it was hard to find any solid info on BP until I found your videos. Thanks for the up date you look good I wish I someday get into the mind set you are in.

My speech was definitely affected, But people could still mostly understand me! But I remember, it was difficult to say certain words (especially if it started with an F, B, V or P) Don't worry, you still have LOTS of recovering to do! Relax, it does improve!

Just share mine: After two days of having BP, I did treatment with a physiotherapist for 4 consecutive days (hot compress, electric pulse and facial exercises). Onwards for 2 times a day, facial exercises, hot compress with a hot compress ball and a portable machine to transmit electric pulse into my face (similar when having facial). Intakes of Prednisolone tablets and Vitamin B-12. Natural tears, chewing gums and sleep eye holder are helpful. After two months or so, I'm fully recoverd :)

@ctaylo28 Gawd... my exercise video has been a blessing AND a curse!!! Please have your mother STOP trying to move her face right now... she does NOT need to force movement! When her face is ready, she will get her movement back, and then she can work on the strength of the muscles. Please, take this advice! Synkinesis is a very real problem and I DO believe it is caused by stimulating a damaged facial nerve before it has had a chance to start healing on it's own!!!

@daphnener You are still in the injury stage of the illness. For me, the pain did not appear till day 5, and it kept me awake at night for 3 days! Prednisone is not supposed to make you instantly better... it's an anti-inflammatory medication that is supposed to reduce the swelling, and hopefully make for a faster, fuller recovery. I don't think it really worked for me with my case, though! Let me know when you start to regain muscle movement in the affected side!

@TheJacqueline769 I NEVER used eyedrops... they actually made my eyes DRIER then they already were. I used an eye lubricant called 'Lacri-Lube' 3 times a day and it was a LIFE SAVER. Despite the fact that it obscured my vision in that eye, it definitely saved me from the annoyance of a dry eye! I do not do facial exercises. Maybe I should at this point???

@njamiso2 I think my recovery is like yours, incomplete yet unnoticeable to others. Interesting to hear that 7 years later, you still experience the pain... how long does yours last for when it appears? Thanks for the comment! Yes, a positive attitude will take you FAR in life :)

@daphnener I have had many the pity party for myself, believe me! It's definitely not an easy condition to recover from... but take it from me (a long time healer) that things do get better with time! It will amaze you! Stay strong and keep the faith! If your case is less severe then mine, you might even recover in 1/4 the time!!! You just never know!!! :)

@sonialuz1975 Don't be scared... the recovery process of Bell's Palsy (for me) often felt like it was going backwards! The pain you feel in your opposite ear will most likely go away with out any warning! Don't jump to conclusions (I would do the same, and just prolonged my case, no doubt!) Did you ever feel like you had a break from the ear pain? In my experience, I only had PAIN for about 5 days... some people (my mother) never experience ANY pain with their bout. Take Care!

FitGirl15 I know that video is 7 years old but maybe you would like the information(if you don’t know already) that a pain behind the ear is actually a sign for a weak meningitis. That’s what I had too when my bells palsy started and they did a lumbal Punction (don’t know the English word) and they saw that not everything was alright in the brainwater. So pain behind ears is never good ! :( now I still struggle from synkinesis. It’s at the starting point right now. Got Bell’s palsy in August and now it’s January :/

@sal70228 If you observe the left side of my face now... it actually appears that I HAVE had botox, all of my wrinkles (the ones that used to appear when my face was at rest) are GONE! Despite that side of my face NOT having the mobility as my right, it definitely appears YOUNGER then my right side! LOL ..... Leave it to me to find the silver linings of Bell's Palsy :)

New Research Shows that Bell's Palsy treatment should include both antivirals and cortisone given in combination. This article was to appear in the April 2013 issue of The American Journal of Medicine. I know about 1984 they said the antiviral medications made no difference, but new research to contrary. In USA 20 days of cortisone and at least two weeks antivirals in decreasing dosages, and then if needed repeat cortisone. Had cortisone from hospital 1st, 0 difference, then antiviral helped

Common Bell's Palsy was a breeze. Many cases end in 2 weeks. Mine took 3. It was 2002. I've since subjected myself to riding motorcycles in the winter & have NEVER got another case of BP. To me, it was easier than chicken pox or even a flu..

@FitGirl15 yeah it seems weird, i should try to find the link for you, i wouldn't think a product would have anything to do with nerves, like it doesnt go into your body and find the affected nerves and fix them, it seems kinda sketchy. but i want to try it anyway, just in case, even if it's some kind of weird mind thing. lol.

@anahata58 I have never heard of this... sounds weird to me! But who knows, it just might work! BUT....you have to remember that MOST people heal on their own from this, so her rubbing her face with kefir may have just been a coincidence!
