In this video review, Chris talks through the latest iteration of the Belstaff Brooklands Mojave 2.0 jacket. Now the classic Mojave jacket, sometimes confusingly known as the Brooklands Mojave, has been in the Belstaff collection ever since the ailing British maker was taken over by the Melanotti family. The whole McQueen thing is a bit overdone these days (by us in truth as much as by anybody), but there is a famous black and white picture of Steve with Bud and his brother wearing a jacket that looks almost identical.
There is no proper biking jacket, in our view, that better treads the line between style and protection. As a short jacket, you can wear the Mojave all day. Wander around town, then go to the pub for lunch, and you’d never think you were wearing an armoured and protective bike jacket. It’s that easy to wear. And it is a proper, proper bike jacket. A combination of waxed cotton and a waterproof membrane mean that it delivers near-laminate levels of waterproofing. It comes with. 150g. thermal gilet and D30 armour in the elbows and shoulders. But the latest version is the best ever. It’s made from a 10 ounce wax cotton fabric which, in our view, is the perfect weight for the jacket. But the real difference between this version and the ones that have gone before is that this one is CE approved, with an extra cotton/Cordura lining in the most vulnerable Zone 1 areas. There was nothing wrong with the old version, but as is often the case the latest one is the best one. For now, at least! But there’s more you should know if the idea of a Belstaff Mojave is appealing. Take a few minutes and listen to what the chap in the cap has to say.
