In this video review, Chris talks through the latest iteration of the Belstaff Brooklands Mojave 2.0 jacket. Now the classic Mojave jacket, sometimes confusingly known as the Brooklands Mojave, has been in the Belstaff collection ever since the ailing British maker was taken over by the Melanotti family. The whole McQueen thing is a bit overdone these days (by us in truth as much as by anybody), but there is a famous black and white picture of Steve with Bud and his brother wearing a jacket that looks almost identical.
There is no proper biking jacket, in our view, that better treads the line between style and protection. As a short jacket, you can wear the Mojave all day. Wander around town, then go to the pub for lunch, and you’d never think you were wearing an armoured and protective bike jacket. It’s that easy to wear. And it is a proper, proper bike jacket. A combination of waxed cotton and a waterproof membrane mean that it delivers near-laminate levels of waterproofing. It comes with. 150g. thermal gilet and D30 armour in the elbows and shoulders. But the latest version is the best ever. It’s made from a 10 ounce wax cotton fabric which, in our view, is the perfect weight for the jacket. But the real difference between this version and the ones that have gone before is that this one is CE approved, with an extra cotton/Cordura lining in the most vulnerable Zone 1 areas. There was nothing wrong with the old version, but as is often the case the latest one is the best one. For now, at least! But there’s more you should know if the idea of a Belstaff Mojave is appealing. Take a few minutes and listen to what the chap in the cap has to say.

Could incorporate a drop down internal curved flap at the back, with maybe a zip to attach to top of jeans, thereby retaining the great looks and solving the wind issues, love the Chanel

I agree 100% with the comment about it being not long enough in the back. If they even did a 4-6 cm gradual lengthening in the back, I'd probably buy one. I bought the trialmaster for this exact reason.

Excellent review of a very cool jacket - personally I like the short look although if you lose it on a bend for example and slide off - looking cool will be of least importance.

@Motolegends, you said that after a year or so or wear, the black, brown, and green, will all look the same, color-wise. I assume you mean that the color will fade somewhat, I know you mentioned the "shine." (1) why is that? and (2) does that change with re-waxing (does it bring the color back). I don't mind if it fades like that, as waxed cotton tends to look good when it gets older, but I was just curious. Could you just elaborate a bit on that?

How does this jacket compare to the older (2010) size wise? Also, does it come with a back protector pocket?

Is this a slimmer fit and shorter than the racemaster? I tried a 40 in that and had a nice amount of room.

Thank you for your recent comment on our You Tube review of the Belstaff Mojave. On one level, we don’t disagree. But we were, and are, reviewing this as a motorcycling jacket and how it works on a bike, and not as a fashion or street jacket. You may be right that lowering the back and simplifying the belt would make the jacket less attractive to some. But we are becoming a little frustrated by motorcycling jackets that are designed more for the street than the bike. Lots of people who have wanted to buy a Mojave have found, once they have tried it on and have sat on the bike in our shop, that the jacket doesn’t work for them. It might work for you but, by and large, it falls a little short, physically and metaphorically, as a proper motorcycling jacket. This jacket is meant to be protective and waterproof, but if the hem of the jacket doesn’t meet the belt line in a downpour the rain will run into the wearer’s jeans, and if there’s an accident bare skin could well be exposed to the road surface. Which is why we would like Belstaff to lower the back by an inch or two. If all one is interested in is how the jacket looks, then our view is that one should buy a jacket from the Belstaff fashion range. Insofar as the belt is concerned, many of our customers have asked us to have the flap removed. The buckle can damage a bike’s paintwork; a press stud would just be easier and neater. But thanks for your input.

Am I the only person wondering, who thought it was a good idea to put a belt buckle around the neck on a motorcycle jacket?? I mean, I don't fancy a belt latch going into my neck, but feel free to buy it if you like that idea.

Omar M Khalil I’ve bought and I’m currently wearing that very jacket (in black) from Motolegends. If it’s windy and cold the neck buckle keeps you snug and weather protected. If you’re at a rugby match or walking the dog in the jacket, like I am now, I can assure you you can wear it open and you won’t notice it. It’s more comfortable than the press stud collars on any of my five or six leather jackets or suits.

Oh, and I do ride my Norton 961 in it too. No issues with trouser gap for me.

Callover Pete fair enough, im glad you’re enjoying this jacket. Still, I have my concerns regarding a sharp metal object positioned next to the throat on a high energy crash.
