Only thing that’ll make these movies perfect is cut out 90% of the human interactions. Have it be like the modern planet of the apes trilogy. CGI can convey Godzilla’s and Kong’s emotions through their facial/body language. Only humans we need is slight dialogue of important world characters, kinda of like the President giving orders to nuke a city or is the antioxygen bomb. The rest should only be shots of people fleeing or or dying from the carnage/collateral damage from these monsters fighting.

How does that leave room for debate? Debate on what exactly? We watched to see who would win in a fight between Godzilla and Kong, the answer to that question was established prior to Mechagodzilla showing up. Kong finishing him off means nothing for the selling point of the film. Kong lost to Godzilla, he needed to be revived. Godzilla lost to Mechagodzilla, he needed to be saved. They both were losing to Mechagodzilla, without Bernie's alcohol they'd have both been done for. And regardless, Kong wouldn't have been able to finish him off with an uncharged axe, so they both did it. What debate is there room left for?

Been watching Godzilla since I was a kid and I loved this movie. Sure, some of the plot holes and human characters are silly, but that's kind of Godzilla movies in general. At the end of the day I wanted to see Giant Lizard vs Giant Monkey and it delivered.

reelrai. Completely agree. The shot selection and sound design gave me the biggest sense of scale Ive felt in any kaiju movie. ANd the grounded approach made it the only kaiju movie I can take somewhat seriously. I love 2014. I would be ecstatic if edwards helmed another godzilla movie.

Of the MonsterVerse from Legendary, I think Kong Skull Island has been the best thus far on story and action combined. GvK had like four characters that could've entirely been cut from the movie, and they could've simplified how MechaGodzilla was handled (among other problems with the story). Far from perfect (very far), but still a fun ride.

Yes, as for plot, the plot is crap, the parts of where Godzilla and Kong don’t slug the crap out of each other, that’s crap, the only saving grace of this is the parts people actually went to see this for the slugfest between the two.
