Another point is that Ben Shapiro says an area that is 'highly tolerant' of LGBT. Well tolerance isn't support Ben... and actually we do have studies showing a supportive family/environment and medical system can cause Trans Children to have similar or better Mental Health outcomes than their Cis Peers. We absolutely know that stigmas against communities contribute to suicidal ideation within those communities and minority stress is a real phenomenon.

To repeat something I've written before: I took a Gender Studies course at Texas Christian University (it's a real course & it's not as useless as Conservatives think), & I read in our textbook at 1 point that roughly 7% of the U.S. population (or about 1 in 15 people) is openly in the LGBT+ community, but only a fraction of them are actually in the T category, so even for Republican politicians, FOX News hosts, & Conservative KZfaqrs, their blatant anti-transgender propaganda makes no logical sense (on top of being morally wrong) because they're attacking the minority group of a minority group.

Weird how Ben always uses legality-based arguments as though the law is the be-all-end-all of any discussion EXCEPT when he suddenly comes up against laws he doesn't personally agree with and only THEN is the law not an applicable case for one's position.

Trans people definitely acknowledge our "biological reality", it's why we usually take hormones. It feels kind of ridiculous that I've basically had to become an amateur biologist to properly navigate the social atmosphere around all of this.

I live in New York and living in this society hasn't gotten any easier because of it, just because people are tolerating you doesn't mean they're friendly and welcoming towards you, a lot of people still uphold a sort of social segregation against trans people that defaults to being cold hearted and harshly judgmental of us all before even getting to know us as people. He refuses to grapple with a perception of society where the blue states arent heavenly sanctuaries for trans people which makes him feel better about wanting to make red states living hells for us.

My depression was only really cemented when I started to realize that I belong to the queer community, when I made friends in the queer community, and had to start talking people off of rooftops, calling people while they threw up pills, listening to their traumas and realizing just how much pain there is among this people so important to me.

Shapiro's catch phrase is "Facts don't care about your feelings" but his entire show is about yelling about his feelings and pretending that his feelings are facts.

I live in San Francisco and am a gay man. Ben's argument is that because of this I should be totally fine. But the thing is, I also grew up in a small Utah town with 300 people in a very conservative and religious environment, and still carry all that baggage with me of not just how I specifically was treated by people from that town once I did come out, but also the years of hearing friends and family talk about how terrible they think gay people are. I still have to life with the fact that my own parents accused me of wanting to molest my younger brothers (we're talking too like I was 19 when I came out, my brother was 4) So yeah even when I moved away from that down into a more open and accepting environment, I still dealt with depression, anxiety, and at one point attempted suicide because of all the negative I had internalized for two decades. Coming out and moving doesn't just erase all that trauma you lived with before that, and it all comes from one little statement here, one "just asking questions" there. And I don't think Ben is ignorant of this. Just ask him if the Jews that survived the holocaust were suddenly peachy and fine as soon as they were removed from the death camps, and they had no ongoing trauma, and he'd absolutely admit that this caused not only trauma for the people who survived the camps, but even generational trauma for those who followed. But of course that doesn't fit his narrative when its applied to people he wants to spit hate against, so he has to do mental gymnastics to justify why gay and trans people don't experience trauma the same way as his own people do.

A COMORBIDITY is just an additional condition occurring alongside the primary condition under examination in a clinician context. It’s confusing because morbidity usually refers to rates of death and dying, as Sam indicated. Co-occurring conditions would be the right way to think of comorbidities. Benji Boy’s reference to comorbidities is nonetheless a lame attempt to attribute higher suicide rates to something inherent in the condition of being trans. If 1 in 5 trans ppl die by suicide, then suicide would be a comorbidity in 20% of trans ppl. What the clinician language camouflages is the fact that comorbidities can be caused or exacerbated by social factors. So Ben can’t so easily evade responsibility when you see that mistreatment and violence of trans ppl is the driving force behind the high rate of suicide.

As a clinical mental health counseling graduate student, it is beyond frustrating hearing people with zero experience/knowledge of mental health/suicidal ideation/gender Dysphoria say this BS. The number of trans clients who suffer from Shapiro's bigotry is staggering. Yet, somehow they are "pro-life"

I wonder how long the people who smugly talk about trans suicide rates would survive if they were treated the same way we are. Daily harassment? Family disowning you? Constant fear of assault? Actual assault that happens more often then we admit? Death threats? Those are all things that have nothing to do with our gender identity or self image - those are things other people do to us. Without those things we're 90% happy, 10% sad. Which, from what I can gather, is better then the average cis person.

In fact, living in Texas as a Muslim after 9/11, I was subjected to exactly that kind of insidious repetition: "Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims." It created the sort of oppressive environment that makes me a kindred of any other minority including those oppressed far more than myself. It's a known fact that a leading risk factor for suicide is suicide, especially when it's a person who people can relate to in some way, or who belongs to a specific group of people. That's why 'trans' people need to stop implying that suicide is the logical conclusion of people disagreeing with them, not using their 'preferred pronouns' etc. Suicide contagion is real. They need to be more responsible and ethical, and less sensationalist and emotionally manipulative when discussing this topic.

Ben is all about free speech. Spread lies and misinformation and justify it by simply saying " I believe it to be true ".

I think not recognizing trans people as normal human beings is probably not good for anyone's mental state.

I think the basis of Ben's argument is that the explosion in suicide rates amongst trans people began when pockets of society began supporting the trans ideology. Ben believes that transitioning doesn't save anyone and that there are completely separate issues that are causing these levels of suicide. His argument, basically, is that transitioning is causing the transitioner greater harm and that abstaining from permanently altering one's body is the better option. Like it or not, attacking his character does nothing to undermine this argument.

On the issue at hand: imagine growing up in a healthy body which you, from one point, start to consider to be the wrong sex for yourself. You think you'll have it easy even if you live in the most favourable circumstances? You will be confused, your peers won't be understanding in an early stage, and you will have to overcome the constraints of society before you can really start to initiate the change you really need, and even during those changes and possibly for the rest of your life. The more the society you live in denies the very possibility of somebody like you, even vilifying people like you, the more you have to fight, and the more likely it is for people in your position to give up and surrender their life. Still this conclusion seems to be to hard to get to for BS. But if he is as intelligent as he is made out to be this should be malice instead of ignorance. On the other hand, he is religous... how intelligent can he be, then?

hey, trans person here! i find that so often conservatives make the argument that they're the only ones acknowledging "biological sex" or that trans people ignore our "biological sex" (like ben did in this video) . but like this goes against the entire concept of being trans??? i'm very aware of my biological sex, how else do you think i'd experience gender dysphoria in the first place??? if anything i feel as though we're much more aware of "biological sex" then cis people because we're so at odds with how it relates to us.
