100% too harsh to put this all on White, anyone doubting that he would love to play for England is being dishonest. Ben White is a great player, complete pro and works for one of the best managers in Europe who demands a lot. He isn't refusing to play for England he is refusing to play for Southgate. The problem is not BW it is Southgate. Southgate is not good enough to manage quality players and White isn't going to risk his career and health for him.

Way too harsh. A personal choice is never a disgrace. So long as you’re not hurting anyone else. Militant patriotism is a primitive mindset. Some people just don’t care that much. Genuinely he just does not want to be strung along on the bench countless times while Southgate plays his buddies like Harry Mags, Hendo & co. This is purely due to the manager and the lack of respect White has for him (rightfully so) Ben White should be in the XI even from last season alone. The problem is that the FA and the management team are not serious. When BW dropped from the team, no one picked the issue to investigate or resolve whatever problem he had in the camp. I do not understand how people like Rory find such entitlement to utter such statements. He is a professional and does not want to play for someone like Southgate. It is England FA who has ruined the so called England’s golden generation by appointing Southgate as the coach. He chose Henderson over Barkley/Ward Prowse. He will play Maguire in the back for sure and Hendo in midfield. I can bet England will not win anything and the only reason will be Southgate’s pragmatic game-plan.

Clearly something happened at the World Cup. If there was no issue, like Southgate says, then why did he need to ask Edu to contact him. There's bad blood there. Rumours are (based on the messages of support White got from Arsenal players at the time he left the squad) was that there were family issues and either Holland or Southgate were unsupportive/dismissive of him at the time. He's said before how much it meant for him to get called up - phoning his mum, crying for an hour and all that. Clearly he wants to play for England - he just doesn't want to while Southgate is there. Which is fair because Southgate is rubbish.

The question 'How could he not want to play for england' is irrelevant because he wouldn't play for england under southgate even if we was picked for the squad. He knows his worth and he can't be bothered with the politics under Southgate. Also, he tends to play through injury so it wouldn't surprise me if he needed a break to heal up.
