Great video! Just bought the 2017 model myself and beginning to get the hang of it. Having previously used the LG 360 I've already noticed the image quality and the general aesthetic and build quality is clearly more advanced. The lack of a youtube/facebook live feature for iOS is a bit frustrating at the moment, so I look forward to when that becomes available. At this price point it is really tough to beat this 360 camera. Thanks for the review and tutorial!

Question, I have owned the 360 for about 4 years. It's not my EDC, but I will use it a few times a year. Lately it seems to be not as sharp as before. It has been sitting un-pluged for about a year, If the battery goes dead, dead for that time, does the ca360 settings go to default ? In your opinion, for 360, what would be the best all around settings ? Plus, can the settings be done via computer ?

Cool camera but the stills are half the resolution of the old gear 360, so to upgrade you will gain a bit more resolution in the video and as mentioned the very handy live stream.

+VR 360 TV true, there are pros and cons to both Gears! But for someone who doesn't already own a Gear 360 this is a no brainer 👍

We mounted on a canoe and filmed in 4k for about 1 hour, 20 minutes. No overheating issue. Shut down when ran out of battery.

I live in Phoenix and have had this out in 115 degree heat. In direct sunlight at that temp it overheats in 10 or so mins. In the shade it kept going for about 30 mins. My S8 phone is 3 mins and 20 mins at those same temps. TL;DR: It is difficult to overheat this camera in normal use.

Hey Ben I just started following you last Tuesday. I am a real estate photographer in Houston, Texas. Ben after checking site after site for 4 days I decided to buy the Kuula Pro software to complete a listing I just shoot. Including download the Action Producers software to get it in to Kuula. I have already shoot 54 great 360 panos. But I cannot find the Action Producers download for my MacBook Pro. To move forward with my clients....who are waiting on me. Thank you for the review. I'm not very familiar with my cool new camera as I finally got delivery, took three receipt copies and a few phone calls and e-mails to get verizon promotions to comprehend that we bought two note 8 phones. My wife picked the wireless charger and I picked the camera. Both promotions were free with trade in of our note 4s. So far we are very happy getting the charger, (with new type 256GB samsung micro card and the new version gear 360 camera. Especially since they were free. I now look forward to using the camera for several purposes, including surveillance. I think it's a great camera at it's average price. And setup was easy.

Great review. Just toured UK and found it great for all our memories from dark country churches to recording on the London Eye. Another bonus of the rubber ring which is a cool design aspect if planned is the ability to 'rest' the camera laying down with a lense laid down in the ring while charging.

Great review. On the overheating issue. I used my 2016 Gear 360 to record a wedding ceremony by suspending it overhead in a finished barn with a fireplace on a humid April day in Canada. I started it way too early and left it on after the ceremony. It overheated and shut down around the hour mark.

I just received a brand new in the box Samsung gear 360 2017 camera. I realize this is 2021 almost 22 and I was hoping you could help me with something. It seems that Samsung has discontinued the gear 360 app and now I'm wondering if you could recommend an app that would work well with this camera. Not much to choose from but if you have any ideas I would appreciate that. And by the way, seeing Sydney harbor again makes me want to go back. One of the coolest places I ever visited. 🤙

Funny you brought up the direct sun with those 360 cam lenses... my motorcycle at the rite angle and parking spot at work the sun on the windshield would burn and melt my dash! Thanks for the review.

Apparently Samsung's QC is very lacking. I just got a Note 8 with a bonus Gear 360 2017. The darn thing was DOA, have spent many hours on Samsung's customer support before finally getting the message it will be some time before it is replaced, there is an epidemic of this problem. Funny when I told one of the several tech support people I spoke with it was DOA, he said what does that mean!

Does anyone know of a good way to mount this on the head? Most of the GoPro type set ups place the camera by the forehead. Something like this would best be mounted on the top.

Thanks! If you can afford it, then i think it's definitely worth it for the improved video performance (although not photo)(and of course be mindful of the stitching)

Thexder like I said in the video it's not the resolution that's the difference, its other things like stabilization, exposure, no overheating etc etc.

Nice video! Can you turn off auto focus or is it always on? I'm getting this camera with my note 8 and I know nothing about 360 cameras. Any help would be appreciated. ✌

Great review, it helped me decide on buying the unit. I do have a couple questions for you though: 1) my 4K videos are no where as sharp as yours, what specific setting are you using? 2) i could not figure out how to connect my selfie stick using bluetooth, how'd you do it? seems like the stick and the 360 are both "listeners" not "searchers"... 3) what software do you use (Win10) for production & why? Thanks buddy

Thanks- firstly there’s no trick! 2, you connect by the camera’s WiFi not Bluetooth, 3 I don’t use windows but I edit in adobe premiere. Good luck!

So this gear 360 from his hand is 1 version, but about the tripod one? This one is mostly good for selfies and such, well, i can see you can put a tripod too, but it will be with the handle, not only with the eye. So what are the differences? The eye only seems to be cheaper, but the tripod and handle will make it more expensive? and the one with the handle is more expensive, but you can buy a tripod and be at the same price range like the eye + tripod? Which version you think it's better?

Hey guys does anyone know what the bitrate of the gear360 4k spherical videos are. For example the Gopro max 5.6k spherical bitrate is 78Mbps I believe. I swear some of the videos I take with my brand new gopro max are blurring than my old gear 360 2017 even though it was only 4k spherical

Gotta modify it by installing a fan. I love in Phoenix Arizona USA and it gets hot. This 360 2017 model is a freebie from Samsung for buying a Note 8 cellphone.

S.O.S! The videos I'm making with this camera will be seen with the samsung VR googles and I need to clip together 5 videos of 8 min to make a long video and If possible to loop it, so I would constantly project on the googles without me having to select another video to play every time one is over. MY QUESTION IS: can I put together different clips from the samsung gear 360 app on my samsung cellphone? without using a computer and editing software? GREAT, CONCRETE AND SUPER CLEAR VIDEO. I'm using my new Gear 360 2017 with a new 64gb SanDisk U1 Micro SD and sometimes it stops recording video after a few seconds and says the card is too slow. Does anyone recommend a better card or is this a camera issue?

I have crazy, like very crazy idea / question - you called this camera - robopenis, ok, fair enough, what if you put on the cam... condom and try to record underwater 360 video? No overheating problems - that 4 sure :D And one more - i just standing before ability to buy that cam, and after few presentations on yt - only yours convinced me to buy it. Thx very much men!

Hey Ben , great review!!! I have the latest iMac and cannot get it to recognise my 2017 gear 360 when I attach it via USB. Not sure why that is, if I attach it to a windows laptop it picks it up as a removable device. What do you think the issue is?

You can shoot 180 if you change the photo settings.. but honestly it’s better just taking landscapes with your phone :)

That means your computer is too old and slow and the graphics card isn’t fast enough for 4k video

Ok now be kind I am a complete novice with a simple question can I just use this as a camera and watch or view photos and footage on my I3 processor laptop, to be honest I won the 360 gear pro in a competition and have a really old phone and really do not want to get a new phone just to use this camera. P.s excellent video and review, just wanted to be sure I will be ok using it as a stand alone camera that I watch via my laptop

you are so right, i love the camera however the seem line video shift is terrible. I did a time-laps of the Empier State building lights coming on and the damn camera video started moving in the time-laps. 6 MONTHS LATER AND THEY DIDN'T FIX ANYTHING LOL

hi! ¿Will you know the videos that recorded with this camera can only be seen in the VR of Samsung? I have tried different app and I have not been able to see them in my generic VR

Thanks for the review. When you recorded 360 for 1 hour, did the camera split the video into 11:27 minute segments? My Gear 360 splits up the videos into segments.

+Don Acebedo correct! Most cameras do this, 360 and non 360. You can just link them back up in your editor 👍

Good review! I just got mine few days ago and I am using it with an iPhone 7+. As you showed in the review, the file got downsized when I get them from the cam onto the phone. I am wondering if I get a S8+, will the files still get downsized when I transfer them onto the S8+?

Great review, Ben! Saw the Gear 360 2017 at the Samsung store in NYC last month which intrigued me enough to find your channel. The price on Amazon just dropped to $189 so I snapped one up (along with the mini-tripod and selfie-stick you suggested). This thing is awesome - amazing quality in such a small package! Question - you mentioned the "fatal flaw" of how the stitching software auto-adjusts when something crosses the stitch line. I can deal with that with manual stitching software. I'm noticing another issue - the camera exposure seems to flicker slightly as if it's also auto adjusting. Another KZfaqr - TokyoStreetView has a video called "Watch this before buying the Samsung Gear 360 (2017)" that demonstrates the problem. Is this something you're seeing with your camera? Is it possibly due to a camera setting (like auto WB)? Any thoughts/advice? Thanks!

+David Lawrence glad my videos have been helpful! Yeah I've definitely heard of that issue- I haven't had experienced it myself so it's hard to diagnose. My suggestion would be to manually control the exposure as best as you can, maybe that will make a difference 👍

Thanks Ben. There's a Facebook 360 group where this has been a big topic of conversation. When connected to my phone, I see a -/+ control in the camera UI at the top of the screen that brings up a scale -3-2-1 0 +1+2+3. This is apparently a Quick Setting exposure control. I'm using an iPhone and touching it does nothing - maybe it's buggy in iOS? Do you use Android and does this control work for you? Also wondering if you shoot much video on tripod? This problem is not there when the camera is moving but on a tripod it's very apparent.

+David Lawrence manual exposure works for me on iPhone, so I'm not sure what the issue is. And nah, I basically only shoot handheld with this camera because of that exact issue 👍

Hmmm, when I tap the manual exposure control on my 6S, the exposure scale appears, but when I tap the scale to change the value, it disappears. Maybe I'm holding it wrong, lol! 😉 I think I'll call Samsung tech support and ask what's up. The app is pretty buggy in general - don't know about you but I can only get it to work in airplane mode - it crashes with the LTE radio on. Handheld definitely seems like the way to go until they fix these issues. Thanks again! 😄👍 EDIT - looks like I WAS holding it wrong!🤣 Just tried tapping on on the scale instead of dragging and it worked! This app really needs some UI help. Okay now for some more tests with manual exposure enabled!

great review. got mine 2 days ago. cant ask for more for that price. does pretty well. i have a 8+ when i save a pic or video straight from the app on the phone, quality of pic is not the same. what can i do to keep it a better quality. connect to a computer?

+jose carreras it should be full resolution on recent Samsung phones- check that you're shooting at full resolution. Remember this one has lower res than the previous.

great review, helped me decide to get one on black friday for a bargain. quick question: how large are 4K videos? I mean, not considering battery life, heating, whatever, THEORETICALLY, how many hours of 360-degrees 4K footage would I be able to store on a 256GB card?

I have a quick question. Ok, I have successfully stitched two separate .mp4 files from a Samsung Gear 360 on my Macintosh. Is there a way to combine these two files into one longer one without using a non-linear editor like Final Cut X or Adobe Premier?

I got a question I just got this camera as a really good deal brand new ! When I download the video this to my iPhone it doesn’t show up as a 360 video just a regular file and when I upload it to my Facebook or Instagram it doesn’t look as 360

Try uploading from the app- the issue is your phone must be losing the 360 metadata

I just got the Gear 360 I downloaded the App n my new S8+ and I am not able to see anything on my phone , I had uninstall the App and reinstall several times and still don't see anything on my phone , it does show that is connected but thats all , I click on the camera on my phone it shows that is loading and after a couple of minutes the Gear 360 turns off , I wander if I have a defective unit ANY ADVICE

Yes indeed it is good considering the price . However, it seems to work with the iPhone only as the app will not download to the iPad Air 2 ! Any ideas please ?

Trying to figure out how big of a memory card I'm going to need I will be doing a bunch of videos for a series about every aspect of taking a v10 out of a truck how many hours can you get with this camera in 360 mode do I need a 256 gb for a few hours of video per video or should I use the camera in single lenses mode my video doesn't need to be in 4k resolution just want to know how much memory it takes for the 360 videos

LIFE in 360 did several recordings with camera in different modes 2000 something resolution at 60 fps for 2 minutes after being saved to phone was half a gig 4k for 2 minutes highest resolution setting was 1.02 gbs so I calculated u wouldn't get any more then 5 hours with a 256gb minded that you only get formatted 243gbs and I also checked at 1080p something 60 frames a second single lense at 2 minutes of video is 432mbs so I calculated i would get 20 hours of video but it doesn't look like the single lenses mode is very good at all and I don't have the money left to just buy a large memory card
