Just getting back into skating after 14 years or so. I ordered a 8.75 to try. I'm 6'7" with size 15 shoe so I hope the extra real estate will be nice to have. Thanks for the great vids!

I love switching between different set ups even though I have no tricks in the bag besides the ollie. There’s always something I like about a different set up. And thanks to this channel I actually know a lot more about what sets one set up apart from the other.

I do find it interesting that like .25 of an inch can feel sooooo much different like its basically nothing but it makes your board feel like a boat

Ive been skating deluxe’s 8.5 x 32.5 x 14.75 lately. I thought 14.75 would be too much wheelbase, but after watching paul schmitt’s nine club and hearing him talk about longer wheelbases for taller skaters, i wanted to give it a try. I love it! I do mostly basic ledge stuff and dont flip my board a ton, so im not sure if it would be a good fit if i was more tech, but it definitely works for what I do.

You will be back at the big bowl. It is just who you are. I also just bought a 8.75. I went with the Welcome Chris Miller Sleeping Cat on cat blood 2.0. it is a shaped deck. I love my 10 inch Welcome and excited to out this one together. I bought the new Grind Kings to put in it.

So hyped for this one! I got the Brian Anderson popsicle 8.75 x 32.56! I think I realized I don’t care about the width as long as I have a 14.5 wheelbase and length is 32-32.5. I guess we won’t see a 9 inch review. Lol!

If you like 8's and 8.25's at the moment, i'd recommend trying an 8.125 it's a happy medium for sure :)

that board looks sick! I've been riding a krooked ronnie sandoval 8.5 full, 14.6wb, with indie 159s and i love it. and I'm a scrawny old dude, 38, 5'10, 130ish and it just works. I'm not doing flip tricks like i used to so i don't go skinnier than and 8.38. ps that nollie fs heel during that flat ground session was buttery!

I really recommend the 9.0 Bakers, they’re WIDE, of course being a 9.0, but unlike what you make expect it’s only 32 inches in length, with a 14.25 inch wheel base

I ride 8.68. 159 Indy Titanium. 54 spitfire radials. I've rode a similar setup for 3years and find it to be my personal sweet spot for big transition and flatground respectively

I understand finding your limit for board size. I also really understand the limit on transition size - there comes a time (usually after a slam) when it seems too high to be worth it. Plus minis are fun as hell.

There are skaters like Ducky Kovacs and Andy Anderson who skate 8.5 / 9 inches boards really well. Maybe they are fully used to skating those massive boards due to the long time they've been doing it. I'm currently skating a plan old 8 inches, but I'm sizing up to 8.5 inches the next one. I'm sure it's gonna be smoother and cooler that my current setup. I'm tall and lanky, I really need a bigger board so my feet fit more comfortably.

So.. I've picked up, or will be picking up a new skateboard in a month or so after 5-6 years of no skating. I skated for about 3 years total. Changed about 6 -7 decks. And I'd say I was just getting the hang of it. Was midway learning how to vert skate, and was already landing 360 flips and those similar '' intermediate'' tricks. And I jsut stopped. For some reason, just one day, never stood on a skateboard, been watching your stuff for a few days. Gave ma a fuckton of insipiration to start it again, and as a form of cardio oppose to gymtime. Thanks for that man, appreciate it. Offtopic for anyone in the comment section, I used to ride 7.75 of those 6 decks, now im switching to an 8 as my first board after a few years, since my feet are bigger, and I remember having trouble landing on that 7.75 board.. and consider my local skateshops and even on the internet don't have the trucks I want which are ( funny enough ) indies. 149 to an 8 inch deck or 139? When I got back into skating at 41 a year ago I started on an 8.75 and got reasonably good on it but I've got smaller gradually and I've found I like 8.18 but now I pick up that big deck and I don't know how I ever got it off the ground 8.75 is a big board for street in my opinion. I ride the same size, the BA version, but only in bowls, I'm really impressed how easy your flatland tricks look! 8.75 is ideal for big transitions.

I just came back to skating after 5 years off, and rode 8 and 8.5” board for the first month and a half. Then, I got a Powell shape 245 flight deck and that has been really nice to skate on, but awkward at times. I’m 6’2” and wear a size 11-11.5 (usually an EU 45) shoe, and the width was a nice change. But the length of 33” with a 15” wheelbase has been nice and stable in getting my grinds back, but sometimes I go to jump off and...I’m still on the board. LOL

When you talk about your bail. I had one testerday from 5 feet on a fakie rock straight to the ribs. I feel you man. and 8.75 is a good size to do all sorts of skating on. Just a bit heavy.

For me 8.25 feels like the perfect size, small enough to flip fast to get more technical tricks, wide enough I feel confident landing on it when doing gaps and such

I skate a 9.0 madness with a 15" wheelbase and I have no problem regarding the tricks, it's just getting used to it

How ironic, I litteraly got my first 8.75 last week and the trucks barely got delivered yesterday, deathwish 8.75 and venture 6.1s very blunt nose but regular tail , and your son is a good filmer

I love skating boards from 8.6 to 8.8 it just makes my flip tricks look better and I think it’s because of what you said about muscle memory because I tried to skate an 8.1 and it just wasn’t working

Hell yeah!! Maybe you should try the football shape Polar that’s 8.75? Around the trucks it’s 8.25 and from what I heard skates like a smaller board. Or try the Franky Villani/Big egg shape. The widest point is 9.1 or 9.25 and feels like a 8.5ish board

I've been skating 8.75s for several years now. Before that I skated 8.5s. Have dabbled in 9s, but those end up being a little too much for certain flip tricks(8.75s are a bit much for double heels, but that's about the only limiter I've noticed on them, plus my right ankle doesn't like that much heel flip action very often). I don't skate bowls though, just park stuff like manuals and ledges/flat bars and more mellow transition. Ankle has been a bit off so haven't skated much at all in the past few weeks; really looking forward to getting out soon. You did really well on a deck outside your comfort zone I think; was apparent it wasn't optimal, but you got a lot of your regular tricks on it. Also: that 8.75 full anti hero sounds exactly like something I'd love to skate, just ordered one online after watching this.

Next you should try a 9 inch baker! The nose is pretty small compared to other 9s and the wheelbase 14.5, which is pretty common. I have one I haven’t set up yet and I’d love to know what you think before I ride it. You should also do a video on how different wheelbases affect your skating. Im riding a welcome right now with a 14 inch wheelbase and it feels pretty short. Thank you Ben, love your videos.

14.75 is a lovely wheelbase. my 8.62 krooked has it and im in love with it

I've become a huge Real Full SE fanboy since starting skating last year. The 8.06 Real Full SE is just about the perfect deck size for me. I'm about 5'8", 160lbs and my first board was an 8.38 Real deck. It was great for cruising down the sidewalk on some 56mm OJ wheels but felt too unwieldy when trying to learn tricks. I tried an 8.25 Full SE as well before honing in on the 8.06 size. My current setup feels perfect and consists of an 8.06 Kyle Walker Real Full SE deck riding on Independent 139 Stage 11 Hollows, Spitfire 53mm Formula 4 Classics (99A) and Bones Swiss bearings.

Just got a Santa Cruz 9" flamming dot. everything about it is pretty medium except it's huge all over. It's 32.5" long with 14.5" wheel base the nose and tail are a hair under 6.75" with one finger of flat I can't tell the difference. It's the most symmetrical board I ever had. Just got it in the mail. Picked this just so I won't do tricks and get hurt. I'm 49 and can't lose my union construction job Got 60mm Ricta clouds and it's my liquor store cruiser. The size is still tripping me out. Haven't rode anything this big since the '80s.

This helped me clarify that it's not the width of the board that's messing with me it's the length...The width definately effects me but I'm going to get something around an 8 something but hopefully find a shorter length...I also have short legs lol

i have ridden a couple 8.8 boards. all of them were Love'n'skate boards. really enjoyed the size and the shapes. my fliptrick game isn't strong but i didn't struggle with the decks at all.

If the edge is sharp edge where you hung up its the conical wheel. It happens to me quite a bit 56mm up. On the brick volcano at lynch family skate park. That's why I switched back to classic shape

I ride a creature 9 inch deck and I like it because I ride transistion and it makes me feel safer and more confident to go for a new trick. This video proves YOU CAN ride a 9 inch deck (I know it's an 8.75 but the dimensions are essentially 9×33) but all it takes is more practice to learn street with it. You just have to be more aggressive. I'm sure anyone can get clean street on a 9. I havent yet cause I'm still learning but the big boy boards are actually very comfortable and easier to ride. It just takes more force and leg strength. I'm an ambassador for it

I just setup a 7.75 popsicle board with mag light Lo trucks, and it made my flip tricks way easier

Interesting to see that wheelbase also depends on the length of the board Currently I’m riding 8.5 quasi with 14.5 wheel base and 33 in length on some thunders , makes a perfect wheelbase , also I’m pretty tall so I need a longer board helps a lot
