Long Term Owners Review
Online course "The Essential Guide to Any Motorcycle Traveler": rtw-adventures...
Finally, I had the chance to ride the new Benelli TRK 502. My first impressions are only positive. Build quality is not bad at all. It comes with almost all the necessary extras that we need to travel on long motorcycle trips, but unfortunately, it has some serious problems with the spare parts in Europe. My friend Carlos, who came with the bike all the way from Macau (China) to Berlin on the way to Portugal will share some priceless experience for the model.

Total rispect Carlos. Maybe one of the best test of that bike. For a trip like this people normally buy gs1250 that cost 25000 euros, and than put 5000 euros extras on the bike, and then make only half way, or they can't finish the trip because of gearbox problems etc... Carlos is my idol Benelli is my next bike

I'm impressed. 99.9% of riders will never use a bike like this, with very heavy loads, intensive riding for thousands of KMs, some on bad roads, in all weather conditions. The fact the rear shock lasted over 10,000 km under these conditions is actually very impressive also. Very good value for your money, but only if Benelli can quickly improve the after-sale support.

Would not a Honda CB 500X be finally a better choice, worth the additional cost (6800€ in Europe) ? Beside the spare parts distribution issue, the problem of the Benelli seems to be the weight, not the power by itself. Of course, because such travel costs a lot of money, one may not want or simply not can put too much on the bike. Anyway, bravo to Carlos to make his dream true and to honestly share his experience. Thumbs up !

My wife just bought me a Benelli TRK502 (BS6) today for my birthday!!!. Took it for a short ride....well it's good really, I stopped riding over 10years ago and am basically re-introducing myself to it. The basics are still intact by I know I have to refine my riding skills. The TRK502 feels like it could have done with longer gears maybe or a 7th gear to ease the revs at high speeds. However, I did note that it struggles at slow speeds an indication of the weight to power ratio......it feels pretty planted on the ground but you can feel the weight when turning and also at low speeds. A little bit noisy also.......The bike is priced at USD6,990 (Nairobi, Kenya). Itse a fair deal for a new bike in this category. It's a day old, will do the 1000km feedback

@@cold_jay The bike is really good. Covered 1600km so far, am not a very frequent rider. But I really love the bike so far. Just found a small oil leak on the oil filter today after a 110km ride yesterday. I guess the filter needs to be tightened a bit. The other issue is hard shifting gears....not sure what the problem is. No other issues so far.

Thanks to You & Carlos for a good review. As a Benelli (Keeway) RKF owner I can confirm that parts availability is a nightmare. Ordering a peg (footrest) on warranty via the official importer lasted 6 months. Now the bike, which is brand new (5000 km) stands for 1+ year in the garage, with broken / disintegrated clutch mechanism (a common issue in these, due to sub-par materials, aka Chinesium) and I cannot find parts anywhere. Difficult to repair, as the mechanism buried deep within the main engine halves. Preparing to either pull the engine out, with difficult access to many parts and a lot of pure nonsense, crap plastic parts. Or just sell it, in an “as-is” state, with a loss, as it it out of warranty now.

There is nothing wrong with the TRX502. It is a great modern bike, you will have broken fuel pump problems on any modern EFI if you deliberately runout of fuel or just plan poorly and run out of fuel. Also for the trip they are describing he picked the wrong bike, the TRK502X would have been the better choice. I don't like this type of review where people run down good equipment just because they don't know how to use it correctly. A poor tradesman always blames his tools.

Exactly. Also parts for their Mirafiore FIAT have been on order since 1978! .....And their Aprilia, Guzzi, Ducati, Gas Gas, Bultaco, etc as well. Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, maybe now RE. And if you can swing it, BMWs and KTM. I am lucky enough to have a 1200GSA, which has many detractors. It is Huge but is really great, nearly unstoppable actually, with practice. And I’m pretty old, so whoever your are you can sort the size out of you want to. But it is a brutally good bike and lasts and has no parts problems - except price. For this kind of riding, you must be able to deal with a breakdown . Period. It’s as important as how good the brakes are or something. That Benelli is not a real world option. I admire this rider for taking that trip on it! Wow! Good job.

Hi ya thanks for this review, loved it. I have owned this model for 2 years. In that I have totally loved it. Complete with crash bars and boxes included. What I didn’t like was the frame started to rust quickly even though it was kept in a garage. It let me down many times from the steering lock broke, ignition switch broke, fuel pump gave up and left me stranded. Bike was very underpowered if you live in a hilly area it will struggle, or I found it that it did. Overtaken things were a problem, even if you drop a gear it had no grunt to get passes quickly, it will pass but make sure you have plenty of road. My dealer was amazing and I would def go to them again but they did not build the bike. I’m glad I didn’t spend a fortune on it or it would have been hard to swallow as it was off the road for 3 months in repairs. My advice if you get it cheap enough and want to run it into the ground and be prepared for breakdowns then go for it as you will get what you want from it.

You should have been using the Benelli TRK 502X it has more clearance and a stronger shock absorber on the rear. Nuno Mendes.

CB 500 x would be even better decision - it has better acceleration, more agile, lighter, better looking, ..., Yes NC has extra space where the tank normaly is, but that's more or less all.

this motorcycle is sold in Poland, Italy, Spain, England, so theoretically it is not so bad with parts. The design of the engine is simple, fairly easy to repair, Bosch injection, so fuel pump to buy from a European supplier, there are also pluses :) good opinion anyway, best regards !

Good sensible review, yes this bike is more then enough for every purpose. Only 47HP so what! If you hit the ground with 47 HP or 120HP you still hit the ground!! Fantastic price also. And a good looking machine. It is on my shortlist all the way up. 👌

General impression of the review and comments bellow is that Benelli is unreliable. He travelled through half of the world and only had leaking shock and bad fuel pump..actually its not bad at all in my opinion.

I have been following this guy for almost a year and I think this is not a very good critic off the TRK. to start coz he seems to ignore that there is an specific model that it is more off road orientated. and secondly and I ignored the situation of benelli in the rest off Europe but in the UK or Spain the problem to get parts or a specific dealer is not an issue. also even if the TRK 502 is not as tall as the sister trk 502 x in all forums people are concerned about is seat height and he stands that is good for people looking for a low seat height. I don't think is a low seat height bike even though is not that high. I am 178cm and have the off road model and it is tall. if you are shorter all bikes are rideable is just about confidence. But definitely try b4 but is not low height seat none of them.

Yes, theoretically there are dealers and parts everywhere, regarding to Benelli website, but I will say to try to find the parts first and than to talk, because what the dealers promise and what is the reality are two different things. I saw this already in Berlin. We tried in Munich, Dusseldorf and many more. Benelli Italy make only the sport models, anything else is made in China.

@@motorcycleadventures hello and thanks to replay. I have been following you for over a year I always thought that you do a great job. I this case I think it is inaccurate to said that that the TRK is not appropriate for the European market perhaps you have that problem in Germany but I belong to TRK Spain face group also to the UK one and no-one report to have issues in finding parts. also myself haven't had a problem in the UK for spares. for instance people more in the last year were reporting problems with the electronics console and in some cases they have been replaced in the local dealer with not much of a problem to find the part. I also have tried both the TRK 502 and the TRK 502 x which I own, I am 178 cm and I would not recommend any of both for people looking for a low seat height bike, specially the X. The trk 502 normal is less tall but still a reasonable high to feel a bit uncomfortable specially if you are a new rider due to the combination of seat height and weight. Again in English and Spanish forums you can read about people feeling uneasy about the seat height in both is a common subject. perhaps the suspension on the bike of your friend has give up a bit due to the hard handling in his long travels. anyway I like to thank you for your channel and making me company in many evenings spent watching your travels. I had a hard time having to ride to work in icing and snowing conditions and looking in KZfaq how,to ride in those conditions I found your channel and you trip back to Bulgaria in winter which I did enjoy lot. regards

Thanks for taking the time and watching my channel. When we said that the parts are a problem I didn't mean that there are no parts at all, the problem is the time to receive it. We can have it in Berlin as well, but after 10 days. I hope that it is clear now.

Hi, I don't know when this video was recorded but there is some incorrect information. First, the Benelli trk502 is produced for the European market in Pesaro, Italy. Second, there are official repairers in Italy, Greece, Montenegro, ... By the way, this model is among the three best-selling motorcycle in the world in 2018/19. I do not know the situation in Germany, but in many European countries there is a very good official service (Italy, Montenegro, Greece ...)
@motorcycleadventures

It is made in China 100%. Dealers of Benelli doesn't mean dealers of TRK 502 and have nothing even close to dealers like Honda, Yamaha or BMW. Just small shops with few bikes and terrible customer service.

@@motorcycleadventures Of course. I agree. Like most products in the world are made in China. Of course, it doesn't mean it's bad quality. Also yamaha, honda and bmw are world renowned manufacturers and no one can compare them to dealers and spare parts. I drive Benelli trk502x in Montenegro. So far, I have not had a problem purchasing spare parts. Otherwise my motorcycle was ordered from Italy. from the city of Pesaro. in Montenegro there is an authorized dealer and service which is very good. Best regards
