Granger Motors, Inc (Ford, Jeep, Dodge dealer) in Iowa is EXCEPTIONAL...PHENOMENAL. Granger is ALL about the customer. I purchased a 2022 Ford F350 Lariat 7.3L - UP - BAP - Tremor Package with Warn 12,000 LB winch at 2% BELOW invoice......when most all other dealers were selling these trucks at MSRP or an additional $5,000 to $10,000 above MSRP. The truck is awesome!!! I live in a remote scenic area...Rocky Mountain state and it was well worth the plane fare and 865 mile drive home. Granger operates with bottom line pricing, no add-ons or markups and great service!

I drive a '94 Ford F250, full load, 7.3 turbo diesel. I paid $4500 for it about 5 years ago. It has about 150,000 miles on it. Other than some minor things, it's been a pretty good truck. I look at the prices of these new trucks and I have no idea how people can afford to own them. I certainly can't afford it, and really have no desire to buy one. I like my old truck.

At the end of 2022, I bought a used (10,000 km) 2021 Ram Classic Quadcab 4X4 3.6l with many options (electric driver seat, heated seats & streering wheel, towing package etc...) and accessories (hood & windows deflectors, tunnel cover, bed sprayed, rustproof etc...) for 40,500$ (CAN) and the previous ownwer paid 51,000$ (new) including a 9,800$ rebate at the time. Spray in bed liner, technology package, heads up display, rear view camera mirror, heated and cooled seats, adaptive cruise control, etc it was listed for $65k and I walked out the door $57k with an additional warranty. Today that same vehicle basically but a 2023 is MSRP'd at $71,000 with an $8,000 market adjustment. Not to mention my interest rate then is half of what it would be now. I've got to say, I love my Ram! Unlike many 5th gen Ram owners, I haven't had very many problems with mine. I had 1 recall, a factory brake problem at 5K miles. But my biggest complaint about my 2019 Ram Big Horn is the cheap paint. It's sad to see such a fine vehicle suffer from crappy paint. I live in KS, after less than a year the front of my truck looked like it had been driven through several sand storms. After 5 years of ownership, It's much worse now. Also, the paint just began peeling away on my back bumper for no reason. No hits or scratches? When I inquired about WHY, I was told by my dealership that Ram has change to a newer paint chemistry. (Huh?) This is my 2nd Ram Big Horn, I am at 72K miles. The first one (2017 Big Horn/4th Generation-NO problems) was TOTALED in an accident about 5 years ago with 17K miles. While at a dead stop on the freeway in traffic, I was rear ended by another vehicle at 65MPH. I sustained a concussion & a broken left shoulder, but thanks to the & design quality of the build, I did walk away from the accident. Like others, I belong to a Ram website. The major complaints that come in are mostly "electronic gremlin" complaints. (Engine malfunctions & electronics/entertainment system problems.) Too bad Ram has let the quality of their vehicles slip. I would probably would buy another one, but I just don't trust their warranties, or their dealerships any longer. Sad to say, after over 5 years of happy ownership, I'll be looking for another brand.

I have owned my 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie for 4 years now, and it has 34,000 miles on it. I literally searched from coast to coast for it, and I found it in Alexandria, VA. The dealership had it in their showroom for 6 months when I bought it. The list price was $57,200, and a similarly equipped 2023 model is $67,125. The dealership let me have my Ram for $45,000 plus tax, tag and title. I hated to pay that much for a fully equipped crew cab 4 X 4, but it was $6000 cheaper than I could buy a comparable Chevy, Ford or Toyota. About every two weeks, I get an offer from the selling dealership for $35,000 trade-in credit on one of their new 2023 models. This sounds good, but I would have to pony up another $32,000 to buy a 2023 model. I have no inducement to trade. My 2019 Ram is the best truck I have ever owned. It drives like a Mercedes, and it gets the best mileage I ever experienced for a big V-8 4 X 4 truck . I drove this truck roundtrip on a 4000 mile trip from Virginia to Arizona averaging 72 miles per hour and got 22.0 miles to the gallon. I had only one problem with the truck in 4 years of ownership. I had to have the overhead console replaced, and the dealership did this at no cost to me.

Ram shot themselves in the foot. Especially in the heavy-duty market, they are selling a 2010 truck with 2023 prices, yes the interior is different but the old cab, no telescoping steering wheels, pulling options while cranking prices. Also along with the interest rates now you're looking at a 1000-1500 dollar payment and most people can't float the payment for a 6 speed truck with significantly worse specs than Ford.

There is a total of 7% markup. So on a 100k truck, the dealer is awarded $7k. Out of that, they pay fuel, detail, interest, lights and power (overhead). Most dealers sell at invoice (about 2.5-3% total profit). The dealerships are NOT the reason the prices are high, I promise.

I agree with you but I’ll do you one better. I’ve been shopping in my area of NC for about a month now, and the biggest culprit in my region are the dealers and the dealer installed options and excessive prices for them. 98% of the new 1500’s coming on the lots and the remaining 22’s all have these dealer options installed and they refuse to NOT put them on. I even inquired about some in transit and they still refuse to not put these option’s, modifications and lift kits on trucks coming on the lot here. This is pushing the pricing up substantially once they hit the floor. It’s mind blowing to me how greedy the dealerships are getting. You can go to most any Ram dealers in and around my surrounding area and they are full of trucks with these options. I spent 5 years in the car business and this is something we never did.

I had to drive 500 miles to get it but saved a good 7K vs my home dealer who was marking them up a few K and offered less on trade. It had been built like Dec. 2021. I continued to "build" that truck at the Ram website until they shut down the 2022 ordering on the website. The last time I built it, sometime in Nov, the price was up pushing 71K... So, my truck went up over 7/8K during that time. When I bought, I got 7K equity on my 2021 1500 traded in over what I owed and one K for trading at the dealership off MSRP. The 1500 wasn't cutting it for towing... Well, all in all last March, I thought I got an OK deal with no mark up and a couple K more on the trade in vs home AND, that was just when gas went up AND interest rates were...getting ready...to go up. I knew I was in a window for purchase. I KNEW interest rates were going up and was able to get a 3.24% loan so, I made out like a bandit there as they went up over a percentage point by April/May 2022. Right now in a 2023 2500, a roughly equivalent Laramie to mine is window stickered between 72K and 73K... So, in retrospect, I got a killer deal if you are comparing now with then, one year ago almost exactly... today is March 7, 2023. This is getting outrageous.

SO that's a difference of my truck that I got in December of 2020 for $57k at 4% interest rate vs now $78,000 at 8 or 9% interest rate. It is freaking insane

I agree. I have a 2014 RAM Limited and I really love the fit and finish, but the air suspension fails me in the winter, not the summer (and I like that it can raise or lower), and it just cost me almost $4,000 to get brakes all around, rotors ( only on the front), and a tune up (16 spark plugs for the Hemi). I love the ride, but the truck is 9 years old and I think it is time to upgrade. I just cannot justify $70k+ for a new vehicle. The dealer told me that the transmission had to be rebuilt and the torque converter replaced...cost: $4600. I got rid of the truck. It's simple really, it's because these manufacturers are pricing out the everyday American, making it nearly impossible to find a real deal, and making it so your average person cannot justify buying or leasing a new truck. The price jumps, dealerships charging over MSRP, and manufacturers halting production in order to keep supply low, thus keeping demand high is all making buying or leasing a new truck a commodity only for the "rich". These manufacturers are literally to blame for this.

Ram wants to bait you into a high trim level for something that is no longer unique to just Ram. The GMC Sierra elevation gave me just what I needed and they still give you the same infotainment center the Denali gets. Focusing on the need to "refresh" packages is silly. Durability, Functionality, working power, frame strength is what matters for a truck buyer. "Bells and whistles" are not the real issue. Massive price increases, phony mark-ups at dealerships that the customer has to find and then line by line demand be removed are the real reasons people who actually buy a truck to work it, rather than those who just want a "toy" are not buying. I had a 1993 Ram 1500 and put 371,000 miles on before I sold it in 2009. I still see it running around today. I have not seen or heard of anyone with a new Ram getting that much work-life out of a Ram made past 2006. Now they are even worse quality but more than double the price. Same goes for Ford and the GM family. Durability and work performance is way down and the prices have skyrocketed. Dealerships are ridiculously dishonest now and the manufacturers, knowing about it, do nothing. I will try a Toyota this time.

If you want a cheaper truck today it comes with interior afterthoughts and anemic engine options. What I’m saying is the truck companies only put real effort into volume sellers and upper trim levels but all that standard equipment costs and arm and a leg, these companies need to create a basic yet thoughtfully beautiful interior people can afford and be proud of. The starting price of these trucks is out of reach for what you get. No one wasn’t to spend 50+ thousand on a basic afterthought of a truck. Also no one can afford a fully loaded new truck

The rust was getting to it, so a local businessman had his wife's almost new Laramie for sale. Now I kinda feel like I'm someone important driving this beautiful truck, all customized with a steel bed cover with gas struts; black Ram carpeting inside the entire box professionally installed, and lighting. Yep, I just went to an auto show and was shocked that new 1500 Ram Limited was over $80k. The same truck 2 years ago was $20k less. They also have a stigma is being problematic. Tons of videos online of malfunctioning screens and mechanical problems not to mention frames snapping in half. Ram will have to go back to offering massive rebates to get the numbers up.

Ram boosted the price of the trucks also. And the Dealers adding on top of MSRP and add ons. So, the Dealers aren't the only cause of the HUGE prices.

Hi Ben. This is my first comment. Love watching your videos. Love my Limited. It's a bit pricey, but damn, it's better than the others right now. Agree with you that it could use a bigger refresh, but it's still the best truck out there right now. It's a very luxurious truck. Can't believe that ride quality in a truck is this good.

I got my 2017 Ram 1500 SLT Quad Cab with the 3.6L V6 end of May. It had 98k when I got it and it's now at 104k. It was $22.5k so I still feel like it was slightly above value but good for today's market. It's my first ever Ram and I love it.

Having old technology is not an excuse that Ram can't sell trucks. I specifically bought my 2022 Toyota Tacoma because it uses the same old technology from 25 years ago. (My 2022 Toyota has the legendary 25 year old 2TR-FE cast iron core and naturally aspirated port injected engine, old school hydraulic power steering, etc). Toyota sells more trucks because they use proven designs (except for the new Turbo charge Tundra which I hate).

You list many of the reasons I ordered a GMC 3500 Denali. It took 1 1/2 years to get! Local dealer treated me very well on trade, etc. I have been a di-hard Ram/Cummins buyer many times over. Ram has failed to keep up in many ways. Transmissions, mirrors were big for me. BTW, Love my GMC with now 18K miles. A great report Ben!

Maybe do some updates,,, would love a more modern v8 that is more reliable and better fuel mpg than the hemi. Also,,, better driving assist features, you can’t buy extra lives but I would like to be able to buy a safer truck. There lane departure blows. I would like as much self driving assistance as possible as I like taking long fishing trips of 24 hours plus of driving!

Huh? Car sales were dead from Covid and once people came out from the trump lockdowns people bought everything they could find. The issue was they couldn't keep up with demand. Bro you draft dodging master trump (who has 7 bankruptcies) and who lied about Mexico paying for a wall, lied about showing his tax returns, lied about not giving tax cuts for the rich, lied about balancing the budget, lied about ending the war in AFG, and lied about middle class tax cuts aintt he hero you think he is. I am not even a D or an R. DT spent like a sailor in a whorehouse while cutting taxes on the rich. Blew deficit higher than any potus in history. I love the RAM brand, actually considering a TRX. What they need to do is keep prices the same for 2-3years as Ford and GM will be increasing prices so the field will be even. A refresh is needed with an engine update, nothing crazy 10% more power and just 1-2extra mpg will grab people.

To me, truck prices are a joke. I’m in the market for a midsize and one option I am seriously considering is buying closer to base and buying aftermarket infotainment, suspension, led lights, wheels and tires. This option is coming out much less expensive with much more value.

Strange how the Canadian market differs. Up here GM is the most expensive and Ford and RAM are kinda tied price wise. The RAM dealer in my town has a ton of stock to the point they needed an overflow lot BUT I see the trucks in the overflow disappearing. Also, there's nothing wrong with the 4th gen. Just got OUT of a 5th gen Laramie and went back to a new 4th gen almost fully loaded (only missing leather and sunroof) Warlock 4X4. More truck like, has all the features I want and NONE of the tech features I don't want. Picked it up for the USD equivalent of about $42,000. The Laramie rode really nice, but almost TOO refined for me. As far as engines, I personally prefer familiar and tested powertrains.

Truck prices in some dealerships are starting to drop. I just got a 2022 ram 2500 power wagon for 5k less than sticker, and someone at work said he checked last year and saw the truck marked up 15k which made him and his wife pass on buying one.

MPG issues! I bought a 2022 limited. While it's a very nice truck, the MOG isn't close to what the sticker predicts. It had the E-Torque, sticker said 20 around town, 22 combined, 25 on the highway. That isn't going to happen. Maybe 25 on the highway if speed limited to 55 on level ground with no wind. The city and combined, absolutely no way. The dealer always just blows one off about the issue. There were missing bolts/screws in the bodywork under the hood. Very disappointing for such an expensive vehicle, even though I got a solid deal (out of state) on the truck. The Southern California dealers' pricing policy - well, the Ram dealers won't get my money. Thanks for the podcast Ben!
