Apparently we operate in an ultradian rhythm for most cycles of what we do, including light to deep to REM sleep. The ultradian cycle goes for about 90-120 minutes with the middle portion being our time of highest focus. Huberman's Lab says that the optimum amount of time you want to study in a given period is 90 minutes. So ideally, you will study for 90 minutes, of which 60 or so is true focus, and then for 20-30 minutes either take a nap, do some meditation or other non sleep deep rest exercise, walk, just something where you aren't really using your mind too much, and then can move on to another 90 minute session. Apparently we are good for about 4 of those a day and then should just move on to other activities like errands or working out or socializing etc. Guess we were sort of on the mark with 8 hour work days, albeit not enough break time.

Really enjoying this channel, I’m 25 and looking to go back to Cambridge/oxford after selling my ecom business. So basically your approach is similar to active recall and space repetition?

Thanks so much! Really glad you're enjoying the channel, and congratulations on not only aiming for Oxbridge but on having your own ecom business too. Wow! You're at a great age too - sounds like you're way ahead of the game. And, yes, my approach is really founded upon hardcore active recall and spaced repetition. I believe that's like 80% of the puzzle. If you get that right, everything else should fall into place!

Benjamin McEvoy thanks man I dropped out of uni when I started my ecom business I’m just in the process of selling it. It’s left me fortunate enough to retire, so I’ve got a lot of free time. Do you think I could speed up the learning process with all the extra time or would that be counterproductive. I see you got a skill share course I’ll check it out. Do you consult by any chance?

@@lpa7123 That's awesome! I personally wish I'd delayed uni to get a jump-start on my business. Felt like I was playing catch-up for a while after graduation! I think you certainly could speed up the learning process with all the extra time. It would only be counterproductive if you push yourself to the point of burnout. And, as one who has their own business, I'd imagine you already know where your personal burnout threshold is. Thanks for checking out the Skillshare course! I've got a couple more on the way, more business-focused content coming up. And I don't overtly advertise it, but I do offer consults. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with! Hej Benjamin! I'm working on a web tool that helps people visually structure and organize their knowledge, insights, and notes. Came across your channel, and you seem very knowledgeable about learning, structuring, habit-improvement, and self-development as its whole. I was wondering if you could help me out by giving some feedback on the concept? As your input would be very valuable. Cheers,

What about subjects that you need to exercise a lot like math?
@fisicogamer1902

I am a math major- you don't have to exercise a lot. All you have to do is :learn all the new math terms of the chapter by looking up their etymology. After that, read the chapter that uses those terms. If any theorems are there, understand how they are deduced and see if you understand where it comes from. Be critical:sometimes we don't know basic concepts and that is why we don't understand advanced concepts. Now try to look into the solved examples. After that ,you must be able to explain (using the new terms you learned as much as possible and some creativity) and recreate the solution from your brain. Try to be as curious as possible- change as much variables and numbers as possible and see what changes in the answer. See also if another forms of answering may exist. Repeat the process until you feel comfortable doing it automatically.This takes care of most math-except geometry. If you want something on geometry, just ask me. Burn the math exercises: they are trash.
