I bought this head back in 2018. It's a decent value for the price. The lack of precision in the gears can be a bit frustrating at times, most often from what appears to be an occasional gear slip where you turn the knob but the head doesn't move. If you are using it with TS-E lenses, you have to make sure the lens is facing in the opposite direction from the clamp locking knob otherwise you can't fully shift down.

Hi Rich just purchased the SUNWAYfOTO GH Pro 2 geared head. Beautifully made .Gears are permanently fixed though rotation can either be made via the knobs or by the pull out levers .Arca Swiss compatible.

Just got a 3046 in excellent condition. Really happy with the way this will work for my RE shoots. I have been using an expensive heavy duty Induro carbon fiber with top of their line ball head. The 3046 with my new geared head will be the gear now for shooting indoors. Thanks for the intro to these tripods.

I have had a Manfrotto 410 since 2006 and it's like new despite holding heavy binoculars and even telescopes from time to time: I don't know where you heard about the 410 being prone to faults, but I guess pushing a Chines rip off that cost the same (my 410 was 190€ Vat included when I bought it) is not a very good advise. At least the Benro is much lighter (about 1/3 of the weight) for landscape photographers willing to carry around one, which should also tell a lot about how sturdy that 210$ head could be in comparison to the fully metal 410.

i may consider this for real estate work. i did a shoot today on my benro tripod w/ a vx20 benro ball head and it may be too sleek for fast paced real estate shoot where we are constantly adjusting. i banged my fingers up on the tiny knobs a lot and can only get a little quarter turn on the ball head knob to tighten, and i have to do like 2 or 3 quarter turns each time. I really may consider this geared head approach for real estate work.

Rich are you aware there is a Manfrotto MHXPRO-3WG Geared 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head that is listed on Amazon for $153.00 USD today. Also listed is the Manfrotto Junior Geared Head (410) selling for $239.95 USD also on Amazon. Then there is the always way overpriced Arca Swiss D4 Geared Tripod Head Quick Set, Classic (Plate Not Included) at $1141.95 USD.

Hi Rich, thanks for this review. What kind of plate adaptor you use with the manfrotto 405 to use Arca swiss L Braket ?
@ivanlupi5123
@ivanlupi5123 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Rich! Have learned a lot from you. I own that head and it’s great for everything. Just a quick question off topic. Do you ever do interior panoramas? I have tried a couple and they are a complete nightmare when stitching the diagonal lines go curved and when I use the adaptive wide angle in PS it makes me crop the image. Should I always avoid panoramas indoors or is there a better way to correct the geometry besides playing with transform/warp and adaptive wide angle?
@RichBaum

I never do panos inside but I do 360s
@pawel-951
@pawel-951 4 жыл бұрын
If DSLR is your camera of choice for making interior panoramas,firts of all,you need to use a proper panorama tripod head in order to avoid stiching problems. I use Nodal Ninja panohead and I'm very happy with the results. For stiching panos I use program called PTGui Pro.
@ivanlupi5123

Pawel - stitching is no problem it is the way the diagonal lines from the ceiling become curved when stitching and to make that diagonal (straight) again, I end up with a mess and cropping to a 1 shot level. Not worth it. I do own a great tripod and head and how to align the nidal point. Thanks anyway for taking the time
@arca-swissusa1101
@arca-swissusa1101 4 жыл бұрын
@@ivanlupi5123 You are having problems because you are not rotating the lens on its nodal point. Both the Manfrotto and the Benro head offset the camera/lens enough to cause major headaches when stitching rotational captures for a panorama. If Rich had left his ARCA-SWISS quick release on the D4, the lower monoballffix/monorail channel accepts our nodal rail. The knockoff "arca swiss standard" plates are offset and again will cause issues, especially if you are in tight quarters.

Hey Rich,you don't have to slide a plate into the head.You can simply tilt a plate a little a put it down with the side opposite the knob first.Works flowlessly. Cheers!

He means instead of sliding it in from the side, drop it in from above, but tilted so the opposite side lands in the groove, laying it flat and then locking the knob.

Over the past 10 years I have purchased 3 off E Bay and each was perfect and all came with some kind of Manfrotto head and all 3 were under $100 each including shipping. SO if you wait you will always fine a great deal but I think that even at $150 it's worth it as long as it's in good shape..

Hello. Can you say is this Benro works fine and snooth with equipment weight about 4 kg? For example Canon 1Dx + 70-200. Is it true that capacity load of this about 5-6 kg?
@RichBaum

Yes I don't think you would have any issue with a heavier 70-200 and DSLR.. you can find the weight limit on the internet if you want to be sure
