I recently had the absolute delight of listening to the audiobook version narrated by Heaney himself whilst wandering around the atmospheric landscapes of Sweden and Denmark. Truly brilliant experience that I would recommend to anyone visiting Scandinavia! I’m loving the channel Malcolm. Have binged half of your videos over the last couple of weeks, and will surely continue to watch the rest! Nice to just sit back and reflect on the great Tolkien, Lewis and all things Arthuriana. I so appreciate you Malcolm. Few peoples would sacrifice any eye for wisdom, knowledge, poetry. Words are so very important to us. I remember when I was at Berkeley, students in the Scandinavian Department struggled to become fluent in Danish, so they could read Hans Christian Andersen in the original. Vikings, and in particular, Danish Vikings are/were a terrifying lot. The Mongols never dared set foot in Denmark. I’m proud of my heritage, but also a bit ashamed. Γνῶθι σαυτόν. This book (Beowulf), is one of my favorites, as it captures a singular moment in our history; the moment we sheathed our blades, upon fathoming these words - Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Where all others failed, this truth prevailed. Bless you sir.

"Bodies": an Old English version of Luke ch.2 translates "bodies" as "announce". Gives new meaning to your frequent quote from Shakespeare: "And, as imagination bodies forth/ the forms of things unknown, the poet's pen/Turns them into shapes, and gives tp airy nothing/ A local habitation and a name." - Theseus, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Act V, Scene I, 13-17.

I like this. (Some say Beowulf lived in an ancient hillfort in our village on our island in the Baltic Sea...who knows, that might be so...some get angry and say he absolutely did not live there, some people say the aesir Tor has his grave in that same hillfort. That we for certain know is not true as we see and hear Tor as well as Tann-gnjost and Tanngrisne several time every year ...

Hello Malcolm i would like to here ur take of the wind in the willows by Kenneth The Mole had been working very hard all the morning, spring- cleaning his little home. First with brooms, then with dusters; then on ladders and steps and chairs, with a brush and a pail of whitewash; till he had dust in his throat and eyes, and splashes of whitewash all over his black fur, and an aching back and weary arms. Spring was moving in the air above and in the earth below and around him, penetrating even his dark and lowly little house with its spirit of divine discontent and longing. Being its almost spring forward
