It seems like she never had a chance. From a young age she was her mothers meal ticket. So many people used her up and the drugs destroyed her body. I hope she found the peace that iluded her in life.

@Moddie Seven The truth is, though, the enormity of Garland's talent was owed in part due to the vulnerability and raw emotion she exhibited, especially when she performed on stage. She had fantastic vocals, but her presence was the key that made her so riveting. The drugs helped her shed any persona at all and left her that raw, emotional performer. That's the hard truth about substance abuse. Substances can help you perform or can inspire you for a while, but the toll they take is far and away never worth it. The public will never see anything like Garland again, but ultimately she and her loved ones paid the price for our entertainment.

If they don't throw away their money like fools, they can live comfortably and privately for a very long time off their riches. Just look at Hillary Duff. Of course, Judy never even received that money in the first place.

What happens is it turns out the person couldn't mentally handle being famous. Some people who can mentally handle it, go on and live wonderful lives being famous. Other people can't handle it, whether it be impulse problems, drugs, being stepped on, just in general too weak for it. You have to be able to see when your being stepped on, or taking things to far, or not managing finances well.

I read up on the guy, David Begelman. He was finally exposed when in 1977, actor Cliff Robertson got a 1099 from the IRS for a $10,000 check Robertson "received" from Columbia Pictures. Robertson never got a check, when the check was found, the signature was forged & a criminal investigation was opened by LAPD and the FBI, ultimately tracked to Begelmen (Begelmen took over Columbia in 1973). Thing is Columbia wanted to keep it hushed up after Begelmen paid a fine & did community service. But Robertson and his then wife made it public. Robertson said he was blacklisted b/c he didn't work much in the 80s. Begelmen ultimately committed suicide in 1995 after his Gladden Entertainment went bankrupt & he couldn't get funding for Gladden Productions. But he was funny with the $$ right up to the end.

Seeing this makes you realize how much progress we’ve made as women. These women were basically just spit out when they got “too old”. And men didn’t think twice about using them to line their own pockets. We still have a little ways to go in some aspects but look how far we’ve come.

When I was a little girl, I fell in love with Judy and The Wizard of Oz. My mother felt I was too young to know about her tragic death from drugs, so she told me that Judy Garland died when she accidentally fell off of a trolley in San Francisco. My mother had an odd sense of humor and an even odder sense of morality. The image in my mind of Dorothy being crushed by traffic was waaaay worse than an overdose. Thanks a lot mommy🤷‍♀️

I had to hold back my tears and not allow myself to feel her sorrow. She was taken advantage of in every possible way. Fed pills to perform, molested, forced to have an abortion. My god. Watching Judy Garland in an interview or a performance brings up four emotions. First, love. I have always and will always love Judy. It seems to me that there were way too many people who were supposed to love her that didn’t, like her mother. Second, happiness. I enjoy watching her movies, especially the ones with Mickey Rooney. Third, disappointment. She could’ve done more and better, but the pills wouldn’t let her. Fourth, anger. Justified anger against all the people who used her and treated her badly starting with her mother, then the studio, then whoever. It’s just wrong that they treated her the way they did. She was a beautiful young lady with a beautiful strong voice and had singing, acting, and dancing talent oozing out of her. And all they could see in her was a meal ticket. And for all the years of hard work and for the things that were taken from her, she lived the last part of her life so poor that she didn’t have money for food. That is truly despicable.

Beautiful and talented, Judy. She did love her audiences and she did most of all love her children. She was a victim of her mother’s blind ambition, and Hollywood’s grueling reality of sexploitation, exhausting hours and greed, greed, greed of those who managed her and should have helped her, but chose not to. Let her always be remembered not as the victim she was forced to become, but as the most incredible entertainer the world will ever see, that she was.

Hollywood used her up and spit her out....her children were too young to help her....she suffered enough in this life....Rest In Peace Judy, you surely deserved to be treated better 💜❤ 💘

Judy Garland was the most talented entertainer ever. And beautiful. Look at her in Presenting Lily Mars, Babes On Broadway,The Clock, For Me & My Gal, MMISL, Little Nellie Kelly. The list goes on. Sinatra once said. We will all be forgotten, Never Judy. And he's right.

I can relate to Judy, she suffered her whole life with other people calling the shots and controlling her unmercifully. Life became so precarious for her.

Just vial, no one can keep up with that schedule and stay sane. People keep saying they miss the good ol' days. As a woman I am certainly glad I was not born in that era. A pack of hungry wolves would have treated Judy better than the men running Hollywood. I feel for Judy and her children. It is sad to think that no friends in Hollywood tried to help her.

I had so much judgmental ideas about Judy when I first learned of how she died, thinking she brought it to herself. But when I digged deeper into her life I had a broken heart. She was exploited like a cash cow and got the short end of the stick. May she rest in eternal paradise and be remembered for her true spirit While those who mistreated her can rot in hell

She really loved her children. Notice she says her “children didn’t get rich” before she mentions herself. They have nothing but nice things to say about her to this day.
