How nice to see the respect that Carl had for Bert and for Joe Frazier. In a time when fighters seem intent on berating and humiliating each other this is very refreshing.

this was supposed to be Bert Cooper's coming out party. He was supposed to hit Williams and put him to sleep. Instead, Williams completely exposed Cooper, and we were denied Tyson-Cooper, which would have been a much, much better fight than Tyson-Williams.

Cooper just never had a chance with bigger heavyweights, this fight,Bowe, Foreman, Byrd,Zolkin etc. He did alot better with fighters that were around his own size, Holyfield,Moorer and Mercer.

Poor Bert Cooper...he had tremendous potential but he was a classic case of a guy who just couldn't live with success. In the bout previous to tis one, he destroyed Willie DeWitt in 2 rounds on CBS and Gil Clancy and others declared that at not yet 21, he was a force to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division. CBS tagged him their marquis fighter and made this match in the hopes of securing a fight with Tyson. But Bert partied, trained on crack and beer and thought Williams would crumble with the first hard shot. He looked totally out of it in the pre fight interview they did with him, high as a kite on coke, unable to hold still saying "Tyson...Tyson..." with a glazed look in his eyes. A damn shame. He fought until he was 46 and actually had his big moments but his career was forever marred by squandered opportunity.

This was a cool fight between a couple of promising young guys at the time. I remember seeing it live on tv way back then. Both were talented and interesting fighters to watch, even though as it turned out they both ended up being competitive in losing to the top guys they faced later in their careers.

It's a pity cooper finds it difficult to get closer to Williams, but each time he attempts, Williams quickly holds on him to calm him and reduce the tension in him, the only way out for Cooper is a chance for knock out, which is not easy, on the other hand the distance maintained by William will help him in his spontaneous use of jabbing to weaken his opponent. The chance of winning for William is certain. Thanks and God bless.

If CARL WILLIAMS never fought MIKE TYSON, i gaurantee you he wouldve been 1 of those BOXERS many people would claim "wouldve had the style to beat TYSON" !!!! LOL . But since TYSON did fight him, & destroyed him, now people simply claim "WILLIAMS was 1 of the "BUMS" Tyson beat" !!!! lol...

Williams was definitely no bum. He was a credible world ranked contender through the 80s. He earned his title shot against Tyson (unfortunately for him it was a 1 round stoppage). That loss to Mike Weaver could have been a career finisher to any heavyweight but ‘The Truth’ rebounded with commendable wins against Bert Cooper and former world champion Trevor Berbick.

Gil Clancy is nothing but an old criticizer, so negative, never has anything good to say. I knew a guy who won a world title in kickboxing, we were watching CBS with Juan LaPorte fighting & can't remember who but the kickboxer said Gil been harping on LaPorte holding his gloves on the side of his head like earmuffs for entire fight " Shut up Gil ".
