I worked with this joker, when we both bought similar trucks. Everything he is saying about the 2015-2017 is spot on. The only things I can't comment on is 2 features I have not used. Havent had to lock my Diff, or use the yuppie trailer back up assist(would never use it). If you are looking for a strong and comfortable used half ton, this is the way to go. Mine is currently all stock, but planning upgrades.

Rich- here you loud and clear, I got a 2016 f150 5.0 lariat super crew 4x4 black with cappuccino 2 tonepaint. With a functional ram air hood with functional heat extractors. Magnaflow duel exhaust. 29k. Never had it in the Minnesota winter where I live I'm 62 and I'll never ever sell it only if I pass away. What I really love doing is pulling out of garage and sit down in my lawn chair and just stare at it. Thanks for all the WONDERFUL.... videos you take the time to do.. ,

15 - 17 f150s look the best imo, my 2016 f150 4x4 with the 2.7 ecoboost has been great. 198k miles on it, no oil consumption or problems whatsoever. The drivers side turbo had to replaced at 175k because the wastegate wouldn’t open all the way, but other than that it’s been great. planning on tuning it once my powertrain warranty runs out at 225k miles

@@michaeldiamond76 I simply cannot say enough good things about Rich to adequately convey his excellence. My truck is a 2020 Lariat with the 5.0. It has the 10 speed transmission. I purchased it used in early 2021 with 20K miles. The trans was a mess. Rich took care of all programming. Smooth as can be. In my first 5k oil change interval I consumed 4.5 quarts of oil. As per Ford, Rich performed all related TSB works. Condition improved marginally to 3.5 quarts in the next oil change interval. At this point Rich was able to get it condemned and pulled some real magic to get me a propane based replacement which is a significant upgrade. Have run it only 1000 miles since. Runs like a brand new truck. It's an absolutely beautiful Lariat and I purchased it with forever ownership intentions. Rich has restored that dream for me and my family. The vehicle also had a half dozen lesser electrical gremlins. All of which, Rich rectified immediately. I am currently at 35k miles total on the vehicle. Still have significant warranty left, so I am confident the worse is behind and comfortable in my remaining coverage moving forward. Would have been a nightmare if not for Rich and Dundee Ford. Honest to God's 100% TRUTH.

Hey Rich I discovered your channel after I bought my 2017 5.0 race red supercab with 69k miles for only $28,000 in the summer of 23! After seeing all your videos on your thoughts of this generation of 150s I feel ecstatic about my purchase as I’m about to retire in 6 years and I wanted a reliable truck that will last me forever and will allow me to pay it off before I retire! After hearing you I believe that my truck will do just that. I love that it’s a simple solid truck that has everything that I want and nothing that I don’t like all the the nanny state bells and whistles that come on newer vehicles. I am absolutely in love with this truck! Anyways I have become a big fan of your channel. Thanks again for all your great videos!

Maybe I’m biased because I am the second owner of a 2016 Ford F150 5.0 4x4 XLT Supercrew, but I also think the 2015 - 2017 Ford F150 Supercrew is the best overall value for money pick-up truck made to date. I like the 6 speed auto - it would have been nice if a manual transmission were still available. The 2nd gen. 5.0 has proven itself to be more reliable than either the first or third gen coyote motors. For me, having the aluminum body is a plus that translates into more payload capacity and less problems with body rust (a real problem if you live where they salt the roads in the winter. Having the full 4 doors, folding rear seats and flat rear floor behind the front seats is also a real plus. My truck has the less commonly ordered 6.5 ft box, the larger fuel tank and own towing mirrors which are also real pluses for me when I occasionally tow/haul. Given the vehicle’s size and weight I am pretty satisfied with the fuel economy too. Sure, every vehicle has its problems - with just 90,000 miles on mine, I already had to replace the water pump but that was an easy fix. I went with a 5.0 because I wanted a naturally aspirated non-turbo motor. As for the 2018 F150’s with the 5.0, my gripe against them is the built-in active fuel management - cylinder deactivation, oil consumption issues and the 10 speed transmissions. While a 10 speed transmission looks good on paper, there is too much hunting between gears for my liking and shifting points can be erratic and jerky. All this being said, to each their own. I know and understand that others out there have their own opinions on what the best pick-up is. Believe me, I’ve seen the KZfaq videos that show how easy it is to puncture a Ford F150 body panel and tear it like a pop can. Repair of aluminum body damage at least for the time being is more expensive than repair of steel body panels. In the grand scheme of things though, this wasn’t a deal breaker for me as all cars these days have built in crumple zones and get written off with what looks like minor body damage.🇨🇦😬✌🏻

I just started watching your video's very interesting and informative. I have a '14 F150 super crew 5.0 2WD. My 1st truck was a '93 Ranger 2.3 2WD. Drove it 200k. 2 clutches, 2 cam belts it was a tank! Sold in '07 for 2k! I didn't think Ford could do any better. I graduated to a F150 in '07 (a '05 4x4 4.6) loved it and now my '14 is never getting sold. After 79k so far have had NO issues. Only regular maintenance. No leaks, nothing. I have the STX Sport, not too complicated. I hear about all the recalls on the new ones, terrible. I love FORD but they will never make as great of a truck as the 11-17 F150 5.0. TOTALLY 👍 AGREE

Bought it new in June of 2018 for 42 cash otd. Sat for over half a year because it was a fully loaded xlt (kind of oddball truck), and the msrp was almost 52k. By that time the 18’s were very available, and everyone wanted the 10 speed trucks. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Sitting at 55k on the odometer zero issues just a battery and oil changes. No mods just a level lift and ko2’s. Clean southern cali truck that I will have until I die lord willing!

I love my 2015! I have an XL 4x4 short bed regular cab with the 2.7. 118k miles, had it since new. I did have issues with body noise, Ford made it right with me. I would have loved to get a 5.0, but it’s a hard configuration to find like that (122” wheelbase). I have averaged 20.7 mpg over the life of the vehicle living in a congested area on the east coast. FBM may have helped me fix the only real issue I’ve had, I have been having a shift issue where it downshifts and the gear indicator in my instrument panel starts flashing like it is a bad electrical connection. From everything I’ve seen I thought it was the lead frame, I see that they are on back order. Went to a good transmission shop, they scanned (wasn’t giving any dummy lights or trans fault when it was happening), he told me there were recent codes for what would be a bad ground, I remember your older video about the ground locations corroding. I didn’t have much build up, but after wire wheeling down to clean metal, dielectric on the connection, and spraying with battery corrosion inhibitor (trans shop recommended all this too), it has not been having the problem. Fingers crossed because I am very meticulous about fluid changes and the transmission pan is dropped every 30k for a new filter and filled back up, I really don’t want to have to rebuild/replace a transmission. I did rebuild my old truck’s transmission, but it was at 200k on a 2006 F-150. She had 287k when traded for the 2015, the 4.6 stilled purred like a kitten even with the original timing chains/guides.

We have a 2018 5.0, it has 183,000 miles right now. It has had few problems, 1 water pump at 142,000, first plugs were changed at 140,000. We do have this hard to crank when its hot issue, tried changing the battery 2 times and did not help. There is this valve that diverts coolant to the transmission heat exchanger and the heater core, it went out and we just put a tee in its place, seems to be fine, I think the electric aux. water pump is out, but the heater works so I have not messed with it. It just started throwing a check engine light for a P0430, we idle all day sometimes, it goes out on its own after a couple days, returns a month or so later, then goes out. Saw your video about cop cars idling and having cat issues so we quit doing that. You are correct about oil consumption, I didnt have mine "fixed", I just keep oil in it.

The hard crank is a bad starter. They had a bad batch of them in that time.
@Spring794
@Spring794 Жыл бұрын
The aux water pump only works during start stop to keep coolant circulating for cabin heat when the engine isn’t running. Then it also temporarily runs after the truck is turned off. How did you determine the divert was bad? Or what symptoms were you having? I had a cabin heat issue and was thinking maybe it was the divert. I flushed my heater core and it seems to have solved it though.
@chuckmiller5763
@chuckmiller5763 Жыл бұрын
@@Spring794 I removed it and checked it, ohm and voltage, totally dead, I did buy another one, ohm and voltage checked it just to verify, then, I decided to just put a tee in its place and have not had any issue, it does not throw an engine light being unplugged. I had no heater unless it was high RPMs. That water pump used to run when you shut off the engine, I dont think it does anymore, I also think if the trans temp is getting high, that water pump will kick on.
@Spring794

@@chuckmiller5763 I think there may be an option to toggle it on forscan. I might end up checking mine. My 18 5.0 has 160k. I had weak heat at idle, but driving it was fine. After flushing my heater core, the heat was great at idle, but coming to a stop it seemed to go weak for a split second. I assumed it needed to be bled, but it hasn’t gotten cold enough here again to really test it again.

It is the number one best platform to throw a bunch of truck mods at. Bilstien 6112's and 5160's completely transform this truck and I would highly suggest them. I bought the 2015 5.0 coyote supercab because I knew this would be the best platform to build off of. Ever since I fully paid it off I have been modifying the hell out of the truck and with the F150 keeping the same platform, you can completely updated and modernize. Mine came with the 9.75 rear end with 3.55 gear ratio, it is an XLT supercab sport 5.0 4X4 if anyone is looking for that rear end.

Respectively, I wouldn’t trade my Oz Omega X tuned 2019 F150 Roush with the 3rd Gen Coyote and 10 spd transmission for any other truck out there. .53K miles so far, and no oil consumption and the 10R80 shifts super smooth. The only thing I’ve had to do is replace the VCT intake solenoids on it. And, just the other day, I smoked a 6.4L Dodge Charger on the Highway, and it wasn’t even close. The Oz Omega X tune on the 3rd Gen Coyotes and 10R80’s are absolute beasts and so much fun to drive, especially when you have a 50/50 mix of 93 octane and E85. So, respectively, I’d keep my 2019 F150 5.0L over any other truck out there.

500 miles on my 22 F150 Lariat 2.7 Super Cab, AFM delete. No towing and will be changing with full synthetic oil twice a year. I drive about 5,000 miles a year. Use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Valvoline Extended Protection or Ford synthetic oil ? Wish I had a time machine😁

Call me crazy but I love the 5.4 3v. Yes, I know they have problems, but once you bulletproof them, they can go to 400K easily. My friend did the timing chain and exhaust manifold leak on his 2006 and now has 438,000 and still going strong. I like them better than the 5.0 due to their low end torque . The 5.0 doesn't come alive until after 3-4K rpm. Don't get me wrong the 5.0 is a great engine also.

Well, the man likes what he likes. I’ve owned Chevy trucks, Dodge trucks, Toyota, Tacoma, and now I drive the biggest piece of crap of them all which is my Raptor. First Ford truck, and it will be my last Ford truck. But I don’t know if you can really call a raptor a truck. Doesn’t tow worth a crap either. Best truck I ever owned myself 2008, dodge ram 5.7. Best car ever owned 1991 mustang 5.0. Manual. I never beat a car so bad in my life and I never had a single issue with that vehicle. Had it for 70,000 miles before I obliterated a deer with it.

I agree that Fords of this era at sharp and nice to drive but I still think the Tundra 5.7 is the most reliable drive train in the full size truck category. My truck is very basic inside but that’s not why I bought it.

Video idea for ya, how about a radio swap? Either aftermarket or a junkyard sync 3? We have the same radio and after driving other vehicles including my wives little Subaru with an 8" screen, that little bitty screen is hard to look at. Aftermarket is just so expensive, mostly because I want wireless Apple Carplay.

Well, I probably screwed up then. LOL Just bought a 2020 STX 5.0 with 13,000 miles on it. I loved my 2013 F-150 XLT with 175,000 miles but it was a 6 cylinder and I needed an 8 cylinder for pulling my horse trailer farther than 30 miles. I’m watching the oil consumption like a hawk though. Would It have started sooner than now? I did ask for history log on the truck and it was well taken care of. Was Gold certified and has 1 more year of full warranty.

You might be okay not everybody experienced the oil consumption issues between 2018 and 2020... I'm just not a huge fan of the 10-speed transmission and the oil consumption issues and the cylinder liner design of the third gen coyote in the F-150

I will have to agree with you on the 10 speed. Not sure how I like that as of yet. It’s new to me since I’m used to the 6 speed. But I do like how much more pulling power it has compared to my other truck. I am not a fan of the automatic shut off when at a stop sign or light. I turn that feature off every time I get in. But overall so far I love the truck. It is Race Red, so there is NO SPEEDING allowed in that truck! LOLOL

You can also argue the 6.2 L Boss engine with the same 6R80 might be right there with it but the coyotes seems to have less issues at least the second generation.... The boss engine is great except for the valve seat failures and oil consumption and I also think they had the same issues with water pumps. Other than that they're very good engines.... I don't know. I think any more than four or six speeds is too many. I mean six is about the max. Any more than that they start to shift like bags of hammers.... But the 5 L is a lot more efficient than the boss engine and better on fuel mileage

The reason I didn't choose the 2019 is because of the recalls and because of the 10-speed transmission and the 5.0 l V8 some of them drink oil so it just didn't fit my category

I'm 100% a Ford man but the F150 is at minimum 10,000 dollars more than the silverado while it's not the best truck or most comfortable truck my silverado 2022 has the 2.7lt turbo with 311 hp wich is plenty for all the 4 cylinder haters and I get two weeks on a tank of gas. Chevy also has onstar. With all this said, my next truck will be an F150

I have a 2015 3.5 ecoboost. Just rolled 104k and havent had any issues. Not even a check engine light. Do you recommend getting a timing job done as preventive maintenance? I have never had the CS rattle. Would refresh the seals and timing components and swap the oil pump while in there. Then considering new turbos and manifolds at around 150-200k. Again no issues, just preventive. If I do all that and the truck doesn't last 300k+ then I know to never buy an EB again lol.

That wouldn't be a bad idea but you may be able to get more out of that timing set....you'll know when it's time
