My Grandfather passed away last year and I found out he left his ‘15 Lariat 5.0 to me. From what I can recollect of our conversations; and the research I’ve done, this is the unicorn of F-150s. I know he was proud of it and I will for sure take care of this thing. Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Hope yours runs forever!

I have a 2014, F 150XLT four by four, and, love it. Yes that truck has the "Coyote" and the six speed automatic. I get decent mileage, and, have had no transmission problems, and, none of the other things you mentioned. I do not mind the steel body, and, I live in north east Minnesota where we use a lot of salt on our roads. I just use good maintainence, and, keep it washed and waxed. I take it to a carwash in winter and take care to clean the frame, ect. It is now 9 years old, and, no signs of rust anywhere. I have had Fords, Toyotas, and, Silveradoes, and, this is my favorite truck, and, I am 74 years old.

Hard agree. My 17' F150 has been incredibly reliable. Bought used at 70k miles and have 150k on it now and had only had to do regular maintenance on it. Best thing I've done for it though was run 87 with a cold air intake and performance tune....that Coyote engine loves power and makes the truck feel like a bit of a sleeper unsuspected by other vehicles at the traffic lights. I may or may not have embarrassed a few other "modded" trucks haha. Anyways, great video!

Love your down to earth and to the point content! Please keep your channel going... Just flew to MN with my son and drove my new to me 50k mile 2017 F150 SC 4X4 5.0 1 owner, dealer serviced truck back to CT. I've been searching for the perfect '15 to '17 truck for literally 1.5 years and finally found a diamond in the rough. I found this video a couple weeks ago and have to say it's like you read my mind... each and every reason you give is what drove me to this truck, along with a couple you noted that I wasn't aware of... (blend actuator improvements and coolant pumps on newer models) No one can argue with this logic. Thank You!

I absolutely love this truck!!!! Well designed truck , out of all the years makes anf models …. 2015 -2017 Ford V8’s had the best reviews on Ford forums. And honestly that’s all I want in a truck is dependability. Ty for your video and commentary.

Having your insight and inside baseball information on these things are golden. I don't know if it deserves the same trust, but take my '15 F250 XL. 6.2L 4x4. 8' bed extended cab with 195k mi. White with vinyl floor. I absolutely love that thing! It works it's di** into the dirt, pulls anything I hook up to w/o effort...I do 3,000mi oil changes on the engine, 30k on the diffs and xfer case. The point is that there's a feeling a guy gets when you work your ass off, struggle, work harder...and you get that truck that you know is the best. Like your '15 5.0 150. It's a feeling that is tough to beat. You deserve that thing, man!! You work your ass off for your family, you push out amazing content on the KZfaqs, and you provide an invaluable service to the public. You've got a great rig there!!

I have been wanting to upgrade from my 96 F150. It had the 5.0. It was a great truck but it was time to upgrade. I listen to your reviews, as well as a couple others on You Tube. I picked up a 2016 F150 crew cab 4 x 4 with the 5.0. Clean truck with only 116,000 kms (72,000 miles). I have the same thought on the motor size in the truck. Comfy ride. Powerful. Pulls nice. I get 26 miles per gallon (Imperial) at 60 miles per hour. Can't wait to try out the 4 wheel drive in the winter up here in Canada. Thanks for your honest opinion.

I have been a V8 F150 guy for quite some time now but when I was looking for my first pickup truck, I was initially looking for the 5.0 V8 but settled for the 3.7 V6 naturally aspirated motor with 98,920 miles and it now has 107,300 miles (owned it for almost a year so far) and so far so good, no major problems. I didn’t need a V8 and of course a naturally aspirated V6 leaves a bit to be desired, I’m happy I didn’t go Ecoboost and the V8 would’ve left me with more maintenance factors (great engine but more moving parts) especially since I don’t always tow or haul, only occasionally. Overall, both the 3.7 V6 and 5.0 V8 have got to be the best naturally aspirated motors ford ever had.

Been real fortunate with my 2014 F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost and no issues. Doing regular maintenance. Got a Sentra last year as the daily driver I can keep the miles off the truck as it is going to hit 80K miles. Only issue with the truck I've had was a rear driver side door connection had come loose causing the vehicle to think the door was always open.

Finally, someone who agrees with me on the whole V6 turbski vs V8 Coyote argument (and 6 speed vs 10 speed)!! I had a 2000 F150 that I drove for 20 years (224,000+ miles.) In 2020 I bought a 2017 XLT w/ Coyote that only had 8,054 miles on it that an older man owned and only sold it because he could no longer drive. It still had that new car smell and I couldn't pass it up. I had been looking for a new truck, but didn't want to give up that V8 sound. My mechanic and I talked about V6 vs V8 and his opinion was that even though the V6 turbo had more torque and pulling power, all that strain would in the long run put a lot more stress on the motor than on the naturally aspirated V8. Made sense to me so I stuck with the Coyote and am glad I did. There's just something about a Ford truck that will keep me buying them until I can't drive anymore. Love your YT channel!! Please keep 'em coming.

Only flaws I've come across with my '15 5.0 S-Crew is the water pump failed (120k+ miles), the quick disconnect upper radiator hose O-ring / Y-pipe leak, and the sliding back glass lost it's bond and fell into the cab (reattached myself with black RTV silicone and 3M Super Strength Molding tape). Those are the only issues after all of these years and miles. Definitely a good buy.

I was a V8 guy forever, then when I bought my truck in December of ‘19, I decided to try the 3.5 eco boost. Gotta say, after 55,000 miles and using it on a pipeline right of way every day, I like the V6 a lot. Transmission is super clunky, but I’ve had an overall good experience with the truck. I like the grill design better than the 15 to 17 version. Not a fan of what I call the “ garage door grill “. But that’s just me, everyone has different taste. Mine fits the bill for me, yours does what you need it to do, all good. By the way, saw a late 80’s or early 90’s super cab 4x4 at a local parts store the other day that looked 100% original, man that thing was sweet. Have a good weekend.

When I bought my 18 eco 10speed it was stupid clunky for 2.5 weeks. Once it learned my driving habits it became the smoothest shifting vehicle I’ve ridden in. I’ve done the math. Yes, the v6 ecoboost will likely require a timing job between 100-150,000k. But by that mileage you will have saved more in gasoline alone over the v8, the saving nearly pay for two timing jobs. Not to mention having more power, and less strain/weight on every other moving part of the truck. Suspension, bushings, brakes, tires, you name it.

@@Sp3rmWizrd , mine has almost 80,000 on it now, just took it in for service after working on a pipeline in Ohio for the past 3 1/2 months. Tailgate handle broke, easy fix, passenger front seatbelt clicker not working, easy fix, video screen for navigation and radio would just turn black about every 3rd or 4th time I started the truck, APIM module behind the radio had to be replaced which would cost about 1300 bucks if your vehicle is out of warranty, Battery was bad causing auto start/stop to act up, OEM battery is about 225 bucks. The biggest issue I had was it was shifting hard between 4th and 5th gear. They ended up having to rebuild my transmission at just under 80,000 miles! I tow a side by side for work and occasionally a bass boat, so I’m not over working it by any means. The service manager at the dealership told me they’ve rebuilt 9 of the 10 speed transmissions in the last 2 months alone. Took mine to a transmission shop while I was in Ohio and had the fluid changed, filter and flush, to the tune of 450 bucks, looks like it was wasted money. Dealer still has it because they are waiting on special “ one time use “ bolts to put the transmission back together. I’ve been driving a brand new ‘23 XLT around for about 3 weeks as a loaner. Guess it could be worse? 😂

I agree with your opinion, that was a tough choice when I got a 6.2L. I have some rust on the bed supports I'm not thrilled with. The price was too good to pass up though, having thoughts of trading it for a 15-17 5.0 (I could never lose what I paid for mine, and I also fixed it up). I also know the lead frame could go, not even sure I can get an OEM part. What is your gear ratio. I have 3.73,20" tires. 6.2L is more powerful on paper but your truck is 700lbs less. The truck I have is like 5900lbs . Glad you are enjoying your new truck!

My only complaints about my 2016 5.0 XLT would be the radio screen is way too small. 4.2" screen I think and its very noticeable when backing up to hitch up a trailer. Better than nothing I suppose. Second complaint would be because it is the supercrew and a 6.5' bed, the turning radius in comparable to an aircraft carrier. Other than that it has been a great truck for me. If I were to do it again, I wouldn't get the supercrew, I was fine with the supercab on my 2010 and opt for the larger radio screen.

I was a tech up until 2019 and I can assure you the 6 speed has its issues as well. Also I can assure all of you the 08-20 toyota tundra 4.7 or 5.7 is the best truck you can buy for reliability and im not just talking about the engine or transmission, I'm talking about everything, mpg isnt the best and the interior didn't get a real upgrade until the new Gen but the new toyota tundras are trash. I do like the f150s but only because of the interior and I am about to buy a 23 ford f150 tremor with the 5.0, they look great inside and out and as long as it has a warranty and I still have my 2 tundras as back up I am comfortable buying the new f150s with the new tech.

I'm not a racer but a stock trix was ahead but ran outta speed at the limiter and I blew by him at 140. I've been 11240 pounds grcw and it runs with the powerboost and diesels. 93 oct with boostane octane booster. So basically running race fuel. Mpg is great, full tank 486 miles to empty

I just got a Ford XLT and I’m real happy with it me and my wife we’re going to buy a 21 XLT Ford we’re just hoping it’s got the coyote motor in it too. We’re hoping that it’s gonna be as good as this 2015 will see.

I have had a 2015 5.0 coyote f150 since new. The only complaints I have are the stock belt tensioners went out WAY too soon (3 years), the vacuum hub system is a nightmare due to yearly solenoid failure right after winter, the transmission cooler lines rusts through a little too easily (replaced this year along with fluid and filter) and the suspension is fairly garbage, could not handle the weight of aftermarket tires and wheels. (replaced everything with bilstein and hellwig swaybars front and back). Other than that, solid truck. What I like about the platform is that you can keep upgrading the truck as the years go by because ford keeps the base frame the same and the aftermarket parts are endless. I will probably keep this truck going for 30+ years. As long as the frame holds up, I'm keeping this truck.

Thanks for the informative content!!! I really love the 15-17 f150's, but also looking at the Toyota Tundra 5.7! It's very challenging to get some unbiased opinion from both sides if asking something...I'm driving a Sequoia but looking for a truck, the F150 or the Tundra. Have great experience with my Sequoia and wouldn't mind to go with the Tundra, but also love the F150s. Is the gas mileage so much better on the 5.0 F150? Are the Tundras so much more reliable as everyone claims, or is the 15-17 5.0 on a similar or even better level? Thanks for helping everyone out!!!

When I bought my 18 eco 10speed it was stupid clunky for 2.5 weeks. Then it became the smoothest shifting vehicle I’ve ridden in. The only time it’s clunked at all since is the first immediate acceleration after a cold start. And that’s only because my truck isn’t used to me accelerating slowly.

That's quite a ride to work. I agree the '15-'17 F150 are great trucks. I'd choose the engines in this order 5.0, 2.7, 3.5 unless you're towing heavy and far, then I'd go 3.5, 5.0, 2.7. I'd avoid the medium blue, though it's beautiful, and silver trucks since paint delam failures aren't uncommon. Plan on doing headlight work if you buy a truck that didn't come from the factory with LED's. The stock non LED headlights are pathetic. I'd also look for one with the big radio/backup display.

Rich you checked all the boxes on why I bought a 2017 F 150 5.0.New transmission, start stop, spray weld cylinders with low tension rings. I didn't want to spend that much money and pay to be an experiment for Ford. That and the fact it was the year end sale. When I bought it the sales guy couldn't understand why I didn't want a 2018 or any part of the 3.5. LOL.

All I was saying is 99.06 GMT 800 LM7/4L60..... IFS was pretty comfortable and smooth for the time. And they actually are kind patient on fuel depending on platform and powertrain.. but yes, they rotted out the dashboards and clusters stopped working the crapped out fuel pumps. The brake lines and fuel lines are rotted. They would keep going down the road. Rotted still running fuel gauge speedometer not working. Very comfortable seats though haha easy to fix and cheap.. Even if you cross members dragging down the road and you're only getting 11 miles to the gallon because it has 289,000 mi and may only be a second transmission or even first a modern Chevy would be on its third transmission and second engine

I get 1280 km per full tank on highway which is wow . But anyways keep on making videos i appreciate em cheers

If you aren't already, make sure you use fluid film on the frame of your 2017. Takes about 6 cans or you can buy the gallon and a pump setup. Either way, make sure to get inside and outside the frame front to back. Good insurance to protect the frame here in the Northeast. Do it before each winter. only takes a couple hours.

I understand what you're saying. The whole truck the whole package. It's best I I agree except for if they had a manual option it would be the best ever complete. No conversation.... Nobody to argue, but since we're in modern times in the market is why we don't have manual transmission, not the manufacturer. They would love to give us manual transmission so you can get better gas mileage if driven. Leisurely... Of course, if you drive a manual fast it will get worse than an automatic, but.. the market doesn't want manual transmissions anymore... But then again there'll be too reliable for the modern day manufacturer

@@FordBossMe my 17 5.0 6 speed lariat will do 24mpg if i keep it around 60mph which is crazy for a 5.0, mine has max tow, sport appearance 4x4 and a few other nice things, it is basically the perfect 1/2 ton truck spec wise. the gen2 5.0 with the 6 speed is the gem of the f150's line up they figured out all the shortcomings of the gen1 before they messed with it again and messed up the gen3 motors. over the years i have found its always best to buy the last year before the gen change as that's the point when they have 99% of the kinks worked out, i never buy a face lift/next gen when they initially come out, they always have teething problems. the other bonus of doing it that way is on average you will save about 10k on a new truck if the new year is already on the lot. brand new 17 5.0 lariat was 53k, the 18 sat next to it was 64k for the exact same spec, i kinda wanted the 10speed at the time but im so glad i let my wallet and common sense choose the 6 speed now ;-)

Hello Ford Boss, i’m looking for a 15’-17’ f150 5.0 coyote 2nd gen as you call it, i prefer the natural aspiration over turbo and 6speed over clunky 10 speed also like yourself, the only thing that makes me hesitate on pulling the trigger and i hope you can help me out, oil consumption on these 5.0s is notorious and also what scares me is the vct solenoids or cam phasers are still an issue for these 5.0s correct? I thought cam phaser rattle or issue only affected the v6s ecoboost… any input or reassurance would be appreciated!!

If you're getting a 2.7 L ecobooster pretty solid but the ten speed transmission does have shift issues If you are getting a 3.5 L EcoBoost they had between 2017 and 2020 cam phaser rattle on Startup issues with the timing components and there was a third generation change to the cam phaser to fix the red line startup but not everybody went and got it in time and it also has the 10 speed shifting issue And then you had the 2018 to 2020 F-150 with the 5.0 l and 10 speed transmission that had oil consumption problems and also shifting problems so I typically tell people if you're going to buy an F-150 2015 to 2017 5.0 is your best bet
