Hey Mark. What a great call.. Over 10k comments and you're the first one to mention Run of the Mill. I know the song well but I totally forgot about it and the fact that it uses a 12 string. All Things Must Pass really is amazing although if George had made it a single album it would be a contender for the best Beatles solo album. It still is, but there is some filler. Band On the Run is near perfect although I don't think anything can trump John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. What would be your pick? Hey BB. You mean sad because of the tragic end of Delps life? I recently watched the local news report where they interviewed a couple of his neighbors that had no idea that he was famous. Amazing vocals for sure. One other interesting thing I recently found out. The story about just about every record company passing is a fallacy. Right from Tom's mouth: he put "about 30" cassettes in an envelope and heard back from 8! The fact that ANY of the 30 didnt just throw the package away is a miracle. I bet the 8 that responded were the 8 that listened. And I believe 3 were interested. To me its quite the opposite if the myth. Anybody that heard it may not have wanted to sign them right away but they knew it was good! Have a great weekend. Mark

Hey Robert. That's so great to hear. If I can inspire even a single person to play more then it's all worth it. I wasn't much of a 12 string player until a couple of years ago. Now it's a huge part of my playing and I even use it for half the songs at live solo shows. The Martin and Taylor entry level 12s are both fabulous guitars. It's hard to justify spending $2500 on a 12-string unless you're Leo Kottke. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and take care. -Mark

Great video, here. Wow! The memories of that decade came flooding in. Becoming a teenager, Watergate, the fall of Saigon, the Bicentennial, polyester, Tommy, the wreck fo the Edmund Fitzgerald, high school graduationd and more. I had an uncle who was a retired Great Lakes freighter captain and knew the captain of the Fitzgerald. This is kind of macabre, but the crew is still down there on the ship, minus one (he was ejected from the ship and is lying on the lake bed) all nearly perfectly preserved due to the fact that the water at that depth rarely goes above freezing. At any reate, the 70s produced some legendary music.
@8MinuteAxe

Hey James. Your comment (which is awesome by the way) inspired me to do a deep dive on the history of the wreck and the ship. They even have a recording of the coast guard asking other ships to help out. Very sad. Other stuff that makes me think 70s: trans am with the T top and 18 wheelers. My brother loved trucks and had posters of 18 wheelers on his wall. He loved the song Convoy and the movie...with Kris Kristofferson. I was born in the 70s but I do remember them.....and I have the bad haircut to prove I was there! Thanks again for all of the support! It's appreciated SO MUCH. -Mark

@@8MinuteAxe How could I forget Trans Ams? I had a friend who had a 1974 Trans Am with a 455 cu. in. engine. It had no external door handles. To get into the car, he had to insert his key in the door lock and turn it to rool down the window. He then opened the door with the internal door handle. I never thought that that system would deter a determined car thief.

I'm thrilled my favorite band YES made the list and your version was spot on. I remember going to concerts in the late 60s where Steve did it on an electric 12-string. I think over the decades they figure out how to mike the guitar, move on to piezo electric guitars, and then most recently he started using Line-6, 12-string guitar emulation.

Hey Woodman. Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. Honestly, I like the research and the factoids even more than the playing. My original goal was to have a channel where I talk about classic rock but that wasn't what the YT gods had in store for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm very grateful for the success I've had. I know that for every channel with 100k subs there are millions with 100 subs. I try to remember that when things are trending down for the channel like they have lately. Anyway, I really do thank you for your time and support. Please take care and be well. -Mark

Great selections Dude, love the history as well. I was on my way to southeast Asia when these songs were changing history. I carried my guitar to fourteen different counties and it saved me being so far from home, so young and lonely. like many guys in the Marines, my wife chose to leave me while I was deployed rather than welcome home a flag draped coffin. God bless you for demonstrating these selections and sharing God's gift to you. The Edmund Fitzgerald was by far one of my favorites to try to play.

Thank you for this, Mark. I had that Yes album and would come home from classes, put it on and crank up the volume. One of the great bands of all time in my not so humble opinion.

Hey Ross. For sure. As I mentioned in the video, my brother was a huge Rush fan. While I gravitated towards the Beatles and Clapton, he listened to a ton of Yes, especially The Yes Album and Fragile. I like Close to the Edge the best but I know the other two much better from hearing them 100s of times. I really appreciate all of the support. I hope you're having a great weekend. Take care. -Mark

Excellent choices Mark. Like some of the others, Maggie May makes my list, but then, I’d have to drop something! Bummer, I can’t decide which one to drop! Keep up the excellent work. I look forward to your videos every week!

Hey Jim. Thanks so much. I'm surprised at how many people mentioned Maggie May. That wouldn't have been the next one on my list. I would have put Horse with No Name and Wild Horses above it. I'm actually going to perform it this weekend at a gig. Thanks so much for all of the support. I really do appreciate it so much. Take care. -Mark

You are so right people do think of a 12 string guitar as something from the 60’s but carried over to the 70’s and I pray it will make its return in 2022

I started playing the 12-string early this year and I really appreciate your focus on the instrument. I’m familiar with almost all of these songs, but I didn’t know that Edmund Fitzgerald & Horse with No Name were originally recorded on the 12-string. Even more reason to learn them! Thanks again!

Hey Matthew. It took me 20 years to find my way to the 12 string. I cant believe how many songs use one. All Along the Watchtower, Mysterious Ways, Sloop John B, She Came in Through the Bathroom Window all 12 string songs. Thanks so much for checking out the video. I appreciate your time and comment. Have a great weekend and take care. Mark

Always wanted a 12 string. I remember playing my friends 12 string whenever I got the chance and played many of these songs! So very long ago this was, the 70s. You hit all my favorites including The Sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald! Iconic phrasing and melody to me but none of friends were really into that song. Struck me odd back then. I'm a new subscriber but very happy I found your channel. By the way,.. your performances in these videos are excellent! Noticed you have a passion for the 12 string! Like I said, always wanted one but is what it is. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Kirk. I love Queen and I love Rush but strangely its just worked out that I havent covered 39 or Xanadu on the channel yet. Considering I've done parts or entire covers of over 60 12 string songs I need to step it up. 39 may be the only 12 string song in history that's tuned ...UP! Notice that Brian always plays it on a short scale guitar. Thanks for checking out the video. I appreciate your time and comment. Have a great day and take care. Mark

Hey Sean. Thanks for checking it out and for giving me your list. Hey Andy. I really appreciate it. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I cut it out of the final edit, but Suite was one of the first songs I ever learned on guitar. I'm self taught and I remember listening to it on a little GE tape recorder and trying to figure it out. I didn't know the bm chord so I was playing each note individually, hopping all over the fretboard. LOL. It was a good work out. Thats for sure. Thanks so much for all of the support. It really is appreciated very much. Take care. -Mark
