The Budapest Christmas Markets have opened and we went to the most popular ones at the Saint Stephen's Basilica and the Vörösmarty Square.
There are other alternative markets if you wish to experience more Festive Season vibes, like the Ice skating park at Városháza Park, the classic and nostalgic Óbuda Old Town Square market or the Advent market in Újpest.
In this video we'll show you the most popular markets and the lesser known ones that are mostly visited by Locals.
Christmas Markets are one of the highlights of the Winter time in Budapest.
They offer many unique and interesting experiences for those who visit. If you wish to have some nice drinks while enjoying the atmosphere (Mulled Wine for example) or getting some food to eat (Smaller Snacks or big and nice dishes like Lángos, Goulash, Pörkölt or Stuffed Cabbage) or if you just want to buy some souveniers for yourself or your loved ones, there is definately something for you here!

We wanted thank you, your "producer", and guest stars for all the great videos and information that we've been watching for the last 6 months while planning. We've been in Budapest the last 4 days and are sadly heading home at the crack of dawn tomorrow. We've been to the Christmas markets, the ruin bars, eaten tons of great food, seen innumerable amazing buildings, and have fallen in love with the city. 2500huf for a chimney cake! 6000huf for a blood sausage, 4-5 times expensiver than what you could buy from supermarket. so always window shopping for me in any Christmas market.😊 but I still love Budapest, amazing city!

I ate across the Ferris wheel/ Elizabeth square. Plain Langos was 850 huf and loaded was 2600 huf, I think.

We went to the Christmas market that was a straight line from the Grand Market, maybe a 10 minutes walk down a pedestrian walkway. Didn't get food as we got food on our cruise ship, but did buy some souvenirs. Loved the experience and watching your videos ahead of time was a huge help! TYVM!!

Akos, I love your videos so much! My husband and I find so much joy in watching. We moved here about 3 months ago from The US, and your videos have been so helpful to learn where the locals go (and some tourist stuff too). Thank you so much for yet another great video! The only one I'm missing this year is the Újpest market. So far my favorite is the one in Óbuda. Outside Budapest, I recommend the one in Szentendre.

Szia Akos, Thanks for all you research about informing us about the various Christmas markets in Budapest. We did two of them on our visit in 2012. Usually the other KZfaq videos we have seen about the markets just show the same two that we have seen, but not about prices, which is very important. Hello, thanks for this nice video. I am planning to visit Budapest for new year eve, I liked most the one Obuda from your video, but I think the outer 2 market already closed. I hope I will find some attraction for new year eve, I am always restless being tourist in this specials days, lets see :)

Hey there! Yeah only the Big 2 markets in the center are still open, rest have closed. I also enjoyed Óbuda more, it definately resonated more with me :) During New years eve a lot of people roam the streets, going from bar to bar and having fun, so the city center will surely be lively :)

Pork is the most common (mangalica type especially which is a local kind of pork). I believe the stall where we bought the Salami had beef sausage, but stalls with hot food will most likely serve Pork Sausage.

Hey there! On 24th most places close early so people can spend Christmas Eve with their families. But during the day, most places will be open 😊

Hey there! Glad to hear you enjoy the content we do :) While it may be cold, if you dress up well, layered etc, you should still have a lovely time in the city as you explore it :) However if you wish to warm yourselves up, a thermal bath like Gellert, Szechenyi or Rudas may be ideal. Or the House of Music interactive exhibition is also a fun indoor activity. When it comes to cozyness, I personally enjoy visiting the many Specialty Coffee shops scattered around the city, like Budapest Baristas, Fekete Kávézó, Kelet Kávézó, or Madal Cafe next to the Parliament :)

Is it true that at the some markets you can pay in cash?

At the major markets (at Vörösmarty and Basilica) almost all stalls are Card only. On smaller markets there are few places that accept cash as well. But we paid with card everywhere.

Tnx! There are awful comments (Tripadvisor) about bad exchage rates, added some taxes etc. if paying with card at Budapest markets so I will be more happy if I could just use cash :/

Hey there! Almost all stalls on the big 2 markets are cashless and card only. On smaller markets cash may be accepted. We only used card wherever we went and never had issues with that 😊

Hey there, The one on Vörösmarty square is open till night of 31st, the one at Basilica is open till January 1st. The ones on Óbuda and Újpest will close after Christmas. So you can still catch the two big ones when you arrive.
