If you notice the clip after 7 rounds inserted the rounds may not lay flat if they are not pushed all the way back . Look at the side and it’s usually one or two 1/8” not pushed back which makes the top round not stick up quite enough for insertion . Took about 100 rounds to figure out . Mine likes cci hollow point 40 grain or 36 grain , likes golden bullets , likes pretty much anything copper coated hollow points . Does NOT like solid leads as reliably as them copper plated hollows .

my savage 64 loves the norma tac22 also. i can hit a 4" plate at 100 yards with about 8 inches of hold over, 7 out of ten shots. low velocity but very accurate

Thunderbolt is supersonic @ 1250 fps, while Aquila Rifle Match @ 1080 fps and Norma TAC-22 @ 1100 fps are both subsonic. My 64 likes subsonic for accuracy as well. I get similar results with CCI Standard Velocity 40gr @ 1070 fps. It has been said by some, the shock wave behind a supersonic bullet will eventually catch up with the bullet in flight and possibly cause some accuracy issues.

I only load 6 or 7 per clip because I have had feed issues.

I have a Model 64GXP and was having feed issues, too. I have since taken a small wire brush and my Dremel and touched up the feed ramp on the mag so that it is now a mirror finish. I bought some additional mags and cleaned them up as well.As to ammo, Savage recommends 40 grain solid lead rounds. They use Federal Gold Medal Match to rate their 22 Rimfires. Since Remington Thunderbolts are 40 grain solids they should work fairly well. Any 40 grain high velocity ammo should work well. I use Federal American Eagle, Thunderbolt, CCI Mini Mag copper coated 40 grain solids and Wincherster 40 grain copper coated rounds. The Norma and other subsonics should work well as long as they cycle the gun.

Curious to know if you have any feed issues on your 64. I bought mine last year sometime and couldn't get it to feed consistently at all, especially when the mag was fully loaded. The gun shot accurate enough and I'm not much for just plinking as I am for precision, so I was content just loading them one at a time into the chamber. Since then, I've polished the feed lip on the mag and removed the barrel and using a Dremel, ground in a little bit of a feed ramp. I can now load 9 rounds in the mags and it feeds reliably every single time with no issues.

Sometimes I do have feed issues. I have stayed with just loading 7 and it seems to lesson any issues!

I did the same with a file on the clip and then polished the clips and the feed ramp l didn’t file the feed ramp on the gun just polished with a wheel on high speed until it got shiny and it s a lot better 👍👍
