I can’t understand why the negative comments.. As a complete newbie I first viewed two “how to play” videos and then this one immediately after, I thought it did an excellent job of reinforcing what the other ones attempted to teach. I found this video to be really well done and extremely helpful in resolving any confusing points. Thanks!

thank u for video. I am just starting to play again after almost 20 yrs. My friend who i played with all the time passed away. Also learning Go and Mahjong. Was at neighbors house and asked her if she plays backgammon, no she says but do u know Cribbage. In my group, now that i am older, no one wants to get together to play anything anymore. So had to seek out clubs to play these other games. It is all coming back. Now all i have to do is teach my neighbor. enjoy playing.

My sister 54, and myself 62..haven’t played cribbage in over 40 years..Wow, how the time flies. We have recently been able to spend more quality time together bc I retired and can come visit her in Oregon. This week we are 👶going home 🏡 to Alaska , sis hasn’t been back since 1986. We used to play cribbage alot when we were younger and decided it was time to jog our memory. I googled and started to read Crib instructions, that was an epic fai, sice I am a visual learner. After watching you play the game its all coming back..15-2, 15-4…..I am so excited for a Cribbage come back.. Thank you for the Crib Vid!

I am just getting back into the game after learning probably 20 years ago but not playing enough. Then relearned one night in Mexico with no board to count on. I wanted to continue but it didn't come down. Now I'm dating a new guy and we are trying to figure out date ideas in the age of COVID. He is an avid cribbage player. I read the rules and looked at a couple of videos. We met in a park and played the first time yesterday. This is complicated but I love it. The counting points is right now my nemesis. Yes, I probably also don't choose the crib with sufficient strategy yet but man, I miss some points. I've now found several friends who love the game so I think I'm on my way to new ways to enjoy life.

One cribbage how-to video here says you can keep score with a pen and paper. Well, you can. But really, go out and buy a cribbage board if you want to play this (can also be used to score dominoes). It's much easier pegging and you realize the race track metaphor.

1st hand-- 9's should go to crib, keeping the K, 3, + 2 Aces. A 4 cut is a double run + 15's, a face card or 10 is another 2 pts, a king is 4 pts, an ace is 6 pts...and you get to drop a pair of 9's into your own crib! My grandfather would be so angry at this shown play. He taught me to play at age 6. He was a contract bridge pro, too. Even arranged state events in Florida in the 70's. My bro was a kid running around with a coin belt (apparently, there was betting? - lol).

Some bad advice here, at 50 sec's you put a pair of aces in the box (crib), this is bad fo two reasons, 1. They are good cards for pegging. 2. The aces plus the three give you two points for 15 plus two points for a pair, therefore 4 points. Putting the aces in the box leaves you only two points in your hand and a reduced chance of scoring points by pegging.

@@p1nesap Fair enough. It's a complicated game to explain. Preparing a bullet point script may have helped you cover the points step by step as you go along. I see this a lot on KZfaq; people who have a good knowledge of something to teach others (which the effort is appreciated) but they rush to get a camera and record before creating an outline to ensure clear and thorough information. A perfect script isn't necessary... just something to help stay on track and start from the most basic level. Although a scattered video, there were some good tips. Thanks!

@@p1nesap In hindsight it did, but you should play the best odds. I was wondering the same thing that IridescentEye said when I started this video. Also at @3:50 you mention not playing to 10 to give player A a chance to play the Jack, which is the right concept, but you can't go over 31 so it doesn't matter at all. No offense, but this video appeals to nobody because it not only doesn't teach the game to a beginner, but it also doesn't demonstrate strategy.

I have to say that your video title is definitely clickbait. After watching it, I was disappointed in its content. Having played the game for over 30 years and very much a math nerd, I would like to give you a few constructive comments should you ever decide to post a replacement video with improvements. 1. There is no determination of who gets the first crib at the start of the game. This is as simple as saying both players cut the deck and the lowest card (Ace is low) gets the first crib. In the event of a tie, both players cut again, reshuffling the deck if desired. 2. In the first hand, I disagree with your discards for both players. Player A should discard the pair of 9s, guaranteeing them at least a pair in the crib. Discarding the Aces guarantees the same score, but as another commenter stated, keeping the Aces with the 3 keeps lower cards for getting as close to 31 as possible and cutting a start card of 2 is a double run, scoring at a minimum of 8 points. It’s also a guaranteed 4 points in the hand as opposed to just 2 by discarding the Aces. 3. Player B has no points in any combination of 4 cards that are kept in the hand, but they have 3 sets of cards that could possibly form runs. Keeping the 3 and 4 is good in case a 2 or 5 comes up as the start card, which is 2 possibilities of forming a run. Keeping the 7 and 9 is good if an 8 comes up for a guaranteed minimum of 5 points. Keeping the Queen and 10 is only beneficial if a Jack or 5 comes up as the start card for a maximum of 4 points. Thus, the Queen and 10 would have been a better discard because the odds are lower that player a would discard a 5 and the other 4 cards were lower to increase pegging possibilities during play. 4. As another commenter also stated, playing a 10 on a pair of 9s was a safe play because the 8 or Jack would have gone over 31. However, playing the 10 on the second 9 would have alerted player A that player B could possibly have an 8 or Jack, thus affecting strategy when play again started from 0 after a “go”. So, the Queen play here was a better option. 5. In the second round, you mention that 4, 5, 6 is a run, no matter what order they are played. If these are the first three cards played from a count of 0, these 3 cards also total 15; thus 2 points and another 3 for the run. A general strategy is that a player should usually not play cards that are numerically next to an opposing player’s card to reduce the chances of a run. For example, playing a 4 next to a 3 could form a run if a 2 or 5 are played. An exception to this might be letting your opponent get the run if you know there might be the possibility of playing the card on the other side of the run to score 4 over their initial 3, or 2 for a possible pair in spite of their run. A strategy like this is better in the earlier parts of the game as opposed to the end, where a few pegging points could be all that are needed to win before the hands or crib are even counted. 6. You mention that 4 cards of the same suit in the hand is a flush, counting 4 points, regardless of the suit of the start card. However, in the crib, ALL five cards must be the same suit. Even if the 4 cards in the crib are the same suit (like the hand) and the start card is a different suit, the flush would NOT count. Mentioning this in your video would have clarified an often misinterpreted rule of the game. So, based on those points, let me ask you this. If the 6 cards you are dealt have no chance of forming a flush, what would you discard to your opponent’s crib if you are dealt a 5, 5, 6, 7, 7, 8? How about A, 2, 3, 4, J, Q? Despite the video being over 15 months old now, I hope this helps you or anyone else who might read this. Perhaps you are already familiar with my points so I hope you don't see it as being condescending. I think you were too preoccupied by preventing the opposing player from scoring 2 for a 15 count during play. As a software developer for 30 years with a passion for the game, I took it upon myself to write a small program to calculate the score of all possible 2,598,960 combinations of 5 cards. I’m also on Facebook, so if anyone would like a game or pointers on strategy or any aspect of the finer points of the game, don’t hesitate to send a friend request or message. I’m more than happy to help and I can also send you my scoring text file if you would like to see it.

If the 6 cards you are dealt have no chance of forming a flush, what would you discard to your opponent’s crib if you are dealt a 5, 5, 6, 7, 7, 8? How about A, 2, 3, 4, J, Q?
@dvongrad
@dvongrad 4 жыл бұрын
@@miked4079 In both cases, I would discard to give myself the most points. In the first, discarding the fives guarantees at least 12 in your hand with the possibility of 20 if a 6 is cut, 21 with a 7, and 24 with an 8. Cuts of A, 2, 5, 9 add to those 12 points as well. Yes, you give your opponent 2 fives for at least a pair, 8 with a 5 cut, and 6 with a 10-value card, but I think it's worth the risk. In the second, I would discard Q, 4 as one possibility or the J, Q as another. A, 2, 3 is a run. 2, 3, J is 15-total at least 5. You keep the lower part of the 4-card run to increase pegging opportunities on 15 or 31 and the J for a chance of His Nobs. J, Q and either of 1, 4 or 2, 3 is only 4 points guaranteed and you've broken your runs. The chance of completing them again isn't worth the risk and getting any of A, 2, 3 cut is at the very least a double run for 8 points plus another 15 for 2 more. A, 2, 3, 4 is only 4 points to start (sacrificing 1 point), but in the case of a Q, 4 discard, a cut of any of 6, 7, 8 doesn't help you, but when discarding J, Q, a cut of ANY card will give you at least 2 more points, guaranteeing 6 total. I hope this helps. If you or anyone else has any other questions, don't hesitate to contact me on Facebook. I'm not signed in enough on Google to answer any other questions in a timely manner.

Good in depth addition. Seems like the video's creator is a very new player based on this vid. He'll learn. Only disagreement I have with ya is that if I'm pone in this situation I'd toss Q7. If only bc then the only cuts that don't hit are 7QK. Just my two bits. Crib on.
@dvongrad

Q and 7 are in 2 different 6-card combinations, so I'm not sure how you're coming up with a Q7 toss. If you'd like to discuss a hand that has a Q and 7, pick another 4 cards and tell me your discard and I'd be more than happy to give you my thoughts. :) I think you may be correct in saying the video creator is a new player, but, as you say, he'll learn. I'll respond to any question from him and anyone else for that matter. Crib on, too!

Can I take one point for playing last before reaching 31 and hold my 2 until my apponent plays his last card and I play my 2 for another “go” (one more point) or do I have to play my 3 for 27 and then my 2 for 29 for a go. This way my apponent gets a point for playing last. Hope I’m not confusing you.

You have to play all the cards you can as long as the total remains under 31; thus, you have to play your 2 for 29 and a "go", while your opponent plays their last card for a "go" of their own. In short, you cannot withhold cards to increase your pegging count.

The 3 and 2 must be played. Then start the "goes". Cannot hold back playing a card. Remember the last person to say "go" scores a point.

So why does my cribbage board have 3 pegs for each player? I still don't get this game.
@benduker
@benduker 4 жыл бұрын
Three pegs because your board might have an area down the bottom to show how many games each player has won. Or if not then the third peg is an extra in case you lose or break a peg.

I had just learned the game, from an Army veteran 🚁 pilot, and recorded the video so I'd remember what he taught me.

I learned by playing solo with the rules, then I met a good player who schooled me in finer points. But playing solo at first enabled me to hang with him. www.pagat.com/adders/crib6.html

The best way to learn is by playing it with somebody who can help you to make good decisions. When you get the hang of it , it's good fun.

Tim Padleki. Anything new can sometimes be intimidating but after one trial game you will already feel very comfortable and ready to play. It's like backgammon, once you get the feel and realize how easy it really is, you will have hours of fun. I learned one night on a Canadian fishing trip. Have loved it ever since. Don't give up.

Too much jumping around with your explanations for beginners and plus you're a hand is out of view you're going too fast you need to tell us more why you're doing what you're doing this for I want to play the game why do you say two points where are you getting the two points

Wrong twice in the 1st 4 min 1st u have a K 3 9 9 A A. U three your two aces just for fun ?????? You throw your two 9's. The K 3 A A is 2 points and if a 2 is turned u now have a double run and a total of 12 points . You next held a K Q 9 7 u led with the 9 WRONG if a 6 is thrown its 2 points and you won't peg much however if you lead with the 7 now if he throws an 8 for 15-2 you then play the 9 for a three point run . If he has a 6 he can play a four point run with 6 7 8 9 but that a chance u take and you have an A you can .make 31 for 2 . So tota!.pegging s ore is u 5 points opponent 4 . Lol thins ?like this are important ght instincts can be played but stick.to rules like that

This game is too complicated. Who ever invented this game gets a 0. Why would I play this when there are so many versions of easier card games out there that basically do the same thing because it's based on luck.
