In this video we compare the Post Bankruptcy Remington 700 SPS Tac to the Savage 110 Tac both chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor.
The question ive wanted to know.
Has Remington improved since the PRE- Bankruptcy days?
in short yes..... but how does it compare to the Savage 110 Tactical?
both rifles are target rifles, one being the Savage offers tons of value with their barelled actions:
-trigger that adjusts from1.5-4
-integrated mini-chassis
-changeable comb height
-changeable length of pull
-oversized bolt knob
- floating bolt face
- fluted barrel
-takes AICS Magazines...
-comes with a 20 moa rail
Now in comparison the Remington 700 SPS tac comes with:
- Hogue aluminum pillar bedded (non free floated)
-adjustable trigger from 3-5lbs
-hinged floor plate
- heavy barrel
-that's about it
now while the remington obviously has much less to offer in features can it make it up with accuracy or performance?

I've always preferred Savage because I'm a contrarian, but I also appreciate it's DIY soul. If I want to change anything serious on the Remington, I have to go to the gunsmith. If I want to change anything serious on the Savage, I have to go the garage.

When was the last time a Remington outshot a Savage. When I was young, Remington was the rifle to have. The last couple I bought were sold off quickly. If it’s not accurate; I don’t want it near me.

When it came to purchasing a bolt action rifle, I went with range of aftermarket components available. Money had no influence on my choice. Obviously I went with the 700. Junked everything but the barrel and bolt. Parts list to buy after that: Tribe Defense chassis (I liked the 1 piece design) junked the stock it came with and turned a B5 Systems into a fixed, Magpul AR-15 style rubber overmolded grip, Weaver Tactical extended pic rail, Midwest Industries 30mm high cantilever QD scope mount, Trijicon TR22 with a Trijicon SRO2 piggybacked onto scope, bolt on bolt knob extension, Timney Calvin Elite Custom trigger, Barret style muzzle break, custom carry handle (my design), 2 Strike Industries QD sockets one on each side, 5 slot Magpul pic rail, Atlas bipod and I couldn’t be happier. Total cost to build: About $5,500 Feeling when you hit steel at 900 yards: Priceless

Well, sorry Remington, but the Bergara B-14(e.g. HMR version) is better than the Remington 700 produced by Remington. Almost in every aspect. Also, it's compatible with many aftermarket parts for R700. I'm ok to pay $150-200CAD more for a B-14 than to support a company that rides dead horses for the last 60 years without any attempts to revive the horse. P.S. Thanks for the comparison! Great video as always!

The HMR is definitely the better option. The upgrades are already done from the factory. My 6.5 Creedmoor is a tack driver. About the only thing I would change is the trigger. It's good but Timney and Triggertech make some really nice ones. I remember Nutnfancy saying the Bergara HMR is what the 700 should have evolved into.

Exactly. As a Remington 700 fan I couldn’t agree more. Remington please just put a good trigger on your tried and true action with a 5R barrel and drop it in a good stock or chassis. Please drop these cheap and flimsy plastic stocks. The stocks are my main complaint. Save the cheap stuff for the 783 line.

Great video. I liked your choice to shoot another round on the best groups. I would like to see another couple more rounds for the best groups, to get a statistically stronger idea of precision. It would only be a couple extra bucks (maybe $10 for 4 more total rounds) of ammo but make the results a lot more actionable.

Savage definitely gets the accuracy right. I'm still kicking myself for selling my 111 long range hunter. It was my first long range capable gun and it just stacked them in tight groups. I sold it to a friend for the "friend price". 20moa rail, SWFA Super Sniper, and bipod in the deal. I know that there's a version of the Savage 110 Tactical that you can get which comes with the Proof Research Carbon Fiber barrel. I wonder how much better the accuracy would be with this barrel in it. That being said, it goes for about $1400 to $1500 here in the US. I imagine that it improves the accuracy quite a bit since PR is a very high quality manufacturer.

Good day, This is the 2nd clip that I’ve watched about the new Remington from you to date. I very much want to see Remington be the comeback manufacturer of all time but, I still have qc concerns with them. When the 870 first reappeared it had stock fitment issues and now the internal machining of the 700’s receiver from your video shows a very crude machining process! It looks like the pattern that a wood chisel with a chipped cutting edge leaves in wood after use! If possible could you offer a better look at machining from barrels, receivers to bolts in your reviews? Thanks for the good work. Stay safe and healthy!

I have argued this so many times with friends. I own both , and love both, so therefore I am not going to bash either. Having said that, I personally have never owned a Remington that would not just flat out shoot , and shoot well. Yes my Savage rifles shoot very well, and I would even go as far as to say out of the box maby on a good day , a hair better than the Remingtons. Yes I always swap triggers for Timneys on the Remingtons, and after that one upgrade, I have to say they always outshoot the Savages 😢. It is what it is , not Bashing, just the facts. So when I hear guys talking trash on a Remington, I know that they really don't know what they are talking about. Put your money where you're mouth is and show me. Most cannot.

Savage gets the easy win. It has a free float stock, upgraded bolt handle, better trigger, included 20 minute rail, detachable box magazinen all included. Sorry Remington you're only a few decades behind. If you want a Remington clone buy the Bergara HMR. It's got all the upgrades done out of the box. Savage are horrible rifles just like tilka t3, and ruger american. You get what you pay for and there are plenty of better factory rifles like winchester model 70, Browning x bolt, kimber, ruger 77 hawkeye, Bergara, if to cheap to build one with either a custom action or a decent action that has been squared up, trued, lugs lapped to make full contact,

As long as "all the upgrades" in your opinion are a plain jane, heavy target stock- a bolt knob and a marginally better factory trigger then yes the Bergara HMR absolutely has ALL the upgrades. Except I still see everyone put their Bergara in a chassis or some other aftermarket stock, change the trigger, change everything they can about the rifle.. if it's so perfect then why? Why not save some money and do all that to the R700? Seriously. The Bergara has a "better" extractor out of the box, but if you're going to replace everything else that gives Bergara the edge out of the box then is that extractor worth 200 bucks?
@bmstylee
@bmstylee Жыл бұрын
@@jf7393 well. To get the Remington here to the level of the Bergara is going to run you $500-700 minimum. Probably closer to $1000. A good stock from MDT or KRG is $500+ alone. Ya know. Free floated mini chassis stock, enhanced bolt handle, adjustable lop and cheek riser, better trigger. About the only thing I would change would be a trigger. And that's a very small maybe. The same could also be said about Tikka as far as mods.

Let me break this down for you and those who are here and are newer to the gun scene. Remington had the lawsuit which pretty much ended them making rifles for a few years. Which is why they don't make the trigger pull that light anymore. Savage does the "safety" blade so they have something to fall back on legally. I hope that makes sense to you all.

With respect, 5R rifling is the profile/shape of the rifling whereas button rifling is the method by which the rifling was imparted upon the barrel. You can have 5R rifling on a button rifled, single point cut rifled, broach rifled, or hammer forge rifled barrel. 5R means the transition from the land to the groove is slanted and not a 90 degree angle. The lands look like trapezoids instead of rectangles.

U should have mentioned that the Remington was in 308 amd the garvage was 6.5 creedmore. That is why it got better groups out at 1000. U don't just lose moa as the bullet flys. It's the shooter that makes it he bad groups. If u have a 1 inch moa at 100 then if nothing changes as far as the shooter then it should be 10 inches at 1000. It doesn't just grow without wind, coryoalus effect or just bad shooting.

Hello everyone, greetings from Spain, I am thinking of buying my first rifle and I am not sure which one to buy between the BERGARA WILDERNESS TERRAIN AND THE TIKKA SUPER VARMINT in 300 WM caliber. I would like to know your opinion, thank you very much.

The safety is the biggest downfall of the savage for me. Try getting that bugger to move with frozen gloved hands or mittens. Also makes it almost impossible to bed the tang.

I can see you are a remington fanboy. Just don't do a gun vs gun review when your views are jaded. Remington has a cheap stock that touches the barrel, yet it is " more accurate" than the free floated savage? Better adjustable trigger on savage than remington.....yet remington wins? Also savage barrel swaps are easier, AND BOLT HEAD SWAPS if needed. Neither of which remington offers. How about that savage threaded barrel? Also savage mostly sells a bull barrel in the savage 110 tactical. The fluted barrel, is not the norm. I like remingtons myself. But this specific review is flawed. Better luck on the next review. We all want to see your best efforts moving forward. Thankyou for reviewing guns that are popular, and affordable.

hi Damick! while it may have come across that way, i'm not a Remington 700 fanboy, I was actually worried that it would come across as quite the opposite. regarding accuracy they were both given the same equal chance in their stock configurations (wich in a way is unfair to the Remington) and for the trigger the trigger pull gauge doesn't lie with a break consistency of 0.1lbs on the high and the low while the savage is between 0.1-05 lbs variation these are all just objective observations, personally i would go for the Savage trigger I dont chose to shoot triggers about 2lbs. on your other points i see your validity; head / barrel swaps. and i was under the impression this was the common version of the savage 110 tac. thanks for the insight! always looking to make my videos more concise and better than the last one. thanks for the feedback

Ten rounds of moa for the best estimate. Ten hot, ten cold. That's ten fast and ten slow. Remington is probably going to win the ten fast, savage is going to win the ten slow. You should also add in a Tikka rifle for comparison

So I'm reading all the comments dogging the Rem 700, The band has had no innovation for years and has fallen behind almost all brands including Savage , Tikka Bergara Weatherby , Beretta CVA etc etc . The CEO of Remington commented on it ! All my Rem 7000 had to be Accurized to the tune of $ 1500.00 dollars to shoot Sub MOA. All the other brands will do it right out of the box. They are Building the ALPA 1 , This is what they should have evolved into years ago. 5R rifling , Sako or M 16 extractor instead of the C clip, finally upgraded bolt release and stock ... I guess will see if the ALPHA 1 can shoot ? Really no excuse, they have the engineers , the technology and maybe now some leadership..?

After sending a savage back 2 times, with new issues every time they returned it, savage finally replaced the rifle the 3rd go around and over 5 months dealing with them I’ll never own another savage. Regardless of the stock on the remington and the trigger ,it outshot the savage at the end of the day even with its handicaps .

I'll stick with my Remi's because even if I had a Savage I'm stripping it down and replacing just about everything anyway. The first thing that would go the Savage is the trigger, don't need a rifle that has a safety dingus.

@@EpikArms crooked machining on the recoil lug, bolt binding and extremely sloppy, wouldn't shoot under 2 moa, buttstock was cracked from the factory where spacer screws screw in. Savage customer service said they wouldn't do anything. So eventhough I paid for an aluminum bedded rifle I had to bed the action to get close to 1 moa, 3000 cycles with fine lapping compound to get the bolt to stop binding, had to replace the magpul mag with mdt to get it to pick up rounds reliably. Ended up putting it in an xrs chassis to get it to 3/4 moa. Will probably get rid of it and start over with a tikka with an international barrel

Long rang accuracy not shot on the same day one summer one winter come on dude. Savage is well known for weak extraction but the Remington was worst. You stated in the past about your preference for Savage. I have watched videos with Savage in others aluminum bedded stocks and accuracy improved. New rifle you have to do extractor work is not cool. Savage bolt removal is clumsy. High cost of ammo and the Savage need a higher number of round shot for improved accuracy. I have two 700 with drop mags, had to use fine steel wool to polish the feeding ramp for better feeding that before bankruptcy. Savage barrel are rough some need hot lead poured in the barrel with rod and hand lapping was used to get it to shoot. You hated the Ruger predator, I bet you did not take the mag release out to get to the action screw, the stock plastic flexes and action screws will move. I use loctite on my ranch rifle and set at 50 inch pounds and the 223-5.56 shoots lights out with a new timney trigger. I found out later a cheap spring could had been used.

Guy goes on for how long talking about how the heavier barrel doesn’t heat up as fast and will be better for shooting 10 round groups…literally Goes from 0.3 MOA to 0.9 MOA on the 4th shot…savage went from 0.6 MOA to 1.2 MOA…both 0.6 MOA gain…yea that heavier barrel is really doing something there.
