The E46 323i was actually my first car and I loved it. Even though it’s where I learned from a lot of my own mistakes as a car enthusiast. Now I have the confidence to get my hands dirty with just about anything with 2 or more wheels.

Makes sense. Germany evolved it’s cars in a kind of engineering bubble after ww2, as nobody wanted to share engineering secrets with Germany, so they over-engineered in house. That’s one of the reasons why the E90 and E91 require you to take the wheel off to change the headlight, whereas my Mustang required 2 pull tabs at the headlight. German cars are great to drive, but a serious pain to work on. If you can fix an E46, you can fix pretty much anything 2000’s era JDM or USDM.

hey bro, i actually own a 323i but it's currently not working, it doesnt start or crank, any pointers as to what might be wrong with it? i took it to a mechanic and he told me that the computer might be burnt but hes not sure.

My dad had a 89 Ford ranger, manual transmission. He drove that thing til 2004 or so. I remember being picked up from school and you could hear that thing a quarter mile away. Everyone was like "Kev, your dads coming." I was embarrassed at the time but looking back, that thing had over 600k miles and was still running well when he got an F 150

I have an NC Miata as my first car, and I gotta say, it's probably one of the best cars you can buy. People don't love the styling, but it's loads of fun, it gets decent gas mileage (around 27), they handle great, they're manual, affordable, and THEY'RE NOT SPORTS CARS UNDER INSURANCE. Not the mention that they're also super reliable. You can't go wrong with any generation, but I would argue that the NC is the most practical.

I just love how Dr. Squid looks like a car salesman telling his fellow customers aka us subscribers options of what car suits our lifestyle. Good job Dr. Squid and also to answer your question out of all the cars you mentioned on this list of yours, I would pick the awesome S-Chassis Nissan 240SX S14 or if I want to I would maybe choose to import a Nissan Silvia S14. 'Cause I am a fan of some nice classic Nissan sports cars.

Already got the GTI. MKV manual and it’s fun for FWD. I also got the budget alternative WRX, B7 A4 2.0T. Though, it’s the 6spd TipTronic, not a manual. Still fun enough.

@@joelmayorgaa the TipTronic in the B7 is torque converter, but not bad for what it is. It’s an AWD lux sedan, not a sports car. Though, it can still be fun on backroads with the right setup.

i would also reccomend the v70r. they can get a little bit more but if you can save up you get a lot. like awd. a lot of space because its a waggon. 300 something hp. and a volvo. reliable

i would suggest the lexus gs300, 20-25 gas mpg, Little 2j (2JZ-GE), i found a perfict one for $6,500, look up videos ab it, you can make a lot of power and have alot of fun.

an older impreza outback sport or a forester are solid choices, and if you treat it right you'll rarely run into head gasket problems.

My 2012 rav4 had clutch issues from almost new. I recently got it replaced cause it burned and broke down. Sad 😢 but it is a good car for everyday use, probably gonna down size cause its too big for me lersonally

If you live outside America, go test a BMW 325TI (compact) - model. It weighs less, is shorter & faster and has the same engine as the other models. Only downside really is that the pre facelift models look pretty stupid, but the 03-04 facelift m-sport ones look pretty good. Oh and the size hasn't been reduced inside, so there's as much space to sit as in the other models. The car wasn't sold in America so you can't get it in.. 5 years?

Here in San Diego they sell them in Mexico, they are kind of rare, but you can drive then here if you get yourself a "Mexican license" you don't need much, just make up a random adress and you can get a Mexican licence 😜

Options if you don’t care about fun / performance and just want something cheap and sensible Honda Civic base model Last generations of the Mitsubishi Lancer and Subaru Legacy, Kia Optima especially from years 2011 to 2015 Accord & Camry and that pretty much goes without saying options for fun cars and that arguably deserves a mention is the Lexus IS250 and the Lexus GS series from 2008 and upwards you really can’t go wrong with any of them Hyundai Genesis Coupe and maybe used 350Z’s and old Mitsubishi Eclipses great car and isn’t as overpriced as the Evo and all with good numbers and good driving dynamics I would have suggested an old Audi or BMW but a broke college student really won’t have the means to maintain that thing Cheers

Mine was just oil changes and a water pump in the 3 years I had it, my sister's 318 needed a front wiring harness twice. It can be real hit and miss.

If you cant afford e46, the opel omega will be good ;) really good cheap RWD car. In my country it cost something about 2k dollars! And thats IDEAL! :D omega was made in I4 and V6.

Just get any early 2000/90s Suburban or Tahoe. Them mfs are bulletproof. My parents and I have owned plenty of both, I know my dad’s 06 has 250k on it and ain’t seen new oil in 8 months and I can’t remember the last time it didn’t have that check engine light on. So many family memories in that thing. They last.

As a proud E46 owner I can savely say that it belongs on many lists, but maybe not THIS one😅.. You need a very healthy piggy bank to keep owning one of these.. You'll be on a first name basis with several workshop owners in no time!

I mean my family owned a total of four of them for a very long time and only one had an issue. The other three needed very little maintenance at all. Every car has lemons.

Yeah, I have to admid, most costs were made doing things that were not yet essential, but would cause trouble at a later date. I think right now E46's can be a bit of a gamble. It doesn't even have to be a lemon, but those 20 year old plastics seem to fail just about now. And then you're doing all the gaskets, hoses, clamps, o-rings, waterpump, bushings etc etc

You want a good cheap used car, that's easy. Just get a Toyota or a Honda cause they are reliable and will last unlike German and American cars that aren't really reliable and will cost more overtime

LS is a great car. It’s a Lexus. No experience with the CLS, but old Mercedes’ can be very reliable if you get a good one.

Why would the word "turbo" concern you about gas prices? It's recycling waste to produce more power. Think you're confusing this with a standard supercharger (which draws power frome the engine in exchange for producing even more power).

why not suggesting Nissan Skyline GT-T R34 coupe ?? It's better than its german rival, 325i E46 from same era, either in fun factor, reliability, exclusivity and power not only it's dead beat reliable just like camry and lexus es (which is important for first time buyer, unless you're rich), it's also fun car. Also it has good resale value not only because it's R34, but also because of FnF Paul Walker Brian O'Connor and of course, if you feels like it, you can convert it into the looks of Skyline GT-R Z-Tune R34. But I doubt it's wise to spend money from your first job to do this of convertion since it cost quite hefty if you concern bout family, you can also opt for Skyline GT-T ER34 or Stagea WC34. But if you're still single I better recommend coupe R34. Same advice with its german rival of same era, E46 3-series, better get the coupe version unless you need to haul lot of people then get sedan or even wagon version

For the price of 1 Mk 6 Golf GTI, I could do a restoration on my Fairlane, and be reimbursed for the $2,300 I paid for the car itself. 😂. Not really a steal. Although, on the scale of cars from 2014(averaged/Mk6 production run between 2011-2017), it’s pretty average(if you don’t consider the fact that used cars skyrocketed in value recently).
