Just a note for your baby lock ovation and triumph users, the binder attachments from aliexpress work perfectly and the cost between $8-10. I have collected many of them and love using them.

Good to know! I suspect that the revenue on these are fairly high for the sewing machine brands, otherwise I cannot understand the huge price difference

I got my husband to make me a base plate to fit my generic binder attachment to the cover stitch machine works perfectly. I also use the stitch in the ditch presser foot without the centre guide. (Owned my janome since 2007)I find the hem guide a very useful tool too. You can do a lot more with it than just binding and hemming I have made lace with it in the past,

You inspired me to get a coverstitch machine. My Juki MCS 1500 arrived today. i threaded it up (it already had clipped threads demonstrating the the threadways. And, thankfully, there were clear videos. Surprisingly, it sewed perfectly on my first threading. I think that it helps to have a serger, and some experience with the care needed in threading, tension, differential and presser foot pressure. There's not a wealth of attachments...I did get the double chain foot and the hemmer. The foot the comes with it is a marvel...it flexes on the left and the right...it is not a rigid piece of metal. I noted that Gingerhead & Co used the binder attachment style you noted, but there was a conversion plate. I'm glad to know that is available. No clear foot. I'm really happy that I have a coverstitch...I can see that it is part of a useful trifecta (sewing machine, serger, coverstitich) that will enhance one's sewing experience. Thanks for teaching the uses and possibilities.

Thank you - this video was very informative for me as I have the same model of Janome coverstitch machine that you have shown here. Also, thank you for the links. So far I have only used the metallic regular foot and the clear plastic one. Plan on using the elastic foot in the next little while.

Yes they are so diffrent, so this is definitely something one needs to consider as well when getting s coverstitch machine as well. The Brother has the plastic as a standard, right?

A good review as always. Babylock have belt loop binders for two widths and can be tricky to align. So I find it best to have a 2mm to 3mm wider strip so it catches easier. Also a longer length to test and get the set right as the first few centimetres aren’t perfect. It needs the run in. The same is true for the double fold bias attachment. However I find this easier to set. Maybe because I’ve practised more with it. The pin tuck works best of a good quality woven. I prefer the option to pad the tuck with wool though the conventional flat tuck needs a lot of control. The piping foot is useful too especially if you’re doing a lot of it. But, as I’ve discover the Babylock 5mm foot rides over a zip an works with a three thread flatlock Stitch. But that’s for a coverlocker. I’ve tried generics and they have worked very well on my machine. So it depends on compatibility that has to be asked about make and model specific before buying. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for sharing you insights of the BabyLock attachments! And regarding needing extra length for the machine to adapt, it's the same on the Janome

Hello there. Last year I purchased a generic binder attachment and the Janome base plate from eBay, seller ngosew. I had no problem using it on my Janome CoverPro 2000cpx. Also I purchased the clear short foot with metal guide. After removing the metal guide, I've used the clear short foot with very thick fleece with no problem. I don't have the short metal foot but will invest in one cause I like to be ready if I should need it. I love your sharing. Your have such good advice. Thanks.

Thank you for the tip on how to get a well fitting attachment and plate! The price Janome charges for the binder attachment is really hard to understand, unless they make the bulk of profit from the attachments and not the machines. The clear edge presser foot is truly great though and one of the reasons I like the Janome

Hi hi I sew lots swimwear. Currently I use brother Pacesetter 2340. I would like to purchase a coverstitch that can handle the amount of work I do. I’ve never used an industrial machine. Would you recommend this coverstitch machine Jamone cover pro or I should get an industrial machine

I am so looking forward to your newest book! I have the same machine as you and I think have acquired most of the attachments, including the cover hem guide and the tape binder. Sadly, when I wasn’t able to immediately master them I put them aside and have yet to get back to them. I’m hoping the release of your book will give me a much needed nudge to forge ahead and really figure them out. What is the release date? 🙂

I just ordered a Janome CoverPro 900CP, 2 needle machine. I don't have it yet, however I watched this video and thought I would like a clearview foot. I can find more feet made for the 3 needle machines. Do you suppose it would make a difference if I use the foot made for the 3 needle machine for my 2 needle machine? It will fit my machine but I am concerned about whether or not the hole that the needles go up/down in will be too large.
@Thelaststitch
@Thelaststitch 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure, but I will say that the Janome CS machines are pretty particular about the set-up so perhaps this could throw it off so to speak, even if the attachment would be compatible. I would check with the Janome customer service before I invested in it, just to make sure
@debe8890
@debe8890 4 жыл бұрын
@@Thelaststitch I will check with customer service for sure but, I was thinking that the machines that are 3 needle use the same foot when they run with 2 needles in place.

I'm shopping for my first coverstitch machine. Do you find the large harp space on the Janome useful? That and the air threading seem to be the big difference between the Janome and the Babylock. Do you use the Janome exclusively in your book? Are you going to have a pre-sale for the book?
@Thelaststitch
@Thelaststitch 5 жыл бұрын
I like the harp space but it's not necessity imho! Yes I do all the demos on the Janome, but apart from the threading the principles are the same on all machines, including the combo ones. I'm currently trying to set up a pre-order, but it's so unbelievable hard to achieve that when using self-publishing services so I'm not sure I'll be able to make that happen in a timely manner. I'll find out in the next week or so, fingers crossed!

I've had my Janome Coverstitch 1000CPX for about a year. It is so easy to thread; I see no need for air threading (I am 70 w/vision a little less than perfect and fingers not as nimble as they once were). Personally, I really like having the harp space and not feeling cramped. Full disclosure, I did not try out the Babylock because it was more than I wanted to spend, but I already owned a Janome straight stitch which never gave me a lick of trouble and their coverstitch is also a pleasure to operate .

@@o6662 Thank you so much for responding! I am leaning towards the Janome. I can thread both of my sergers with no trouble, a Bernina and a Brother. I imagine a cover stitch can't be that much harder.

@@StayStitching - the Janome coverstitch is way simpler than a serger. fyi - I highly recommend using wooly nylon for the one thread that's the lower "looper". It goes a long, long, long way and makes tension issues disappear.
