Which would you recommend? I have a drive that is going bad now with quite a few damaged/bad sectors, one of those was the partition for the drive. It shows in disk management as uninitialized/unallocated. It is NOT a boot disk, just an extra storage disk formatted for GPT. The disk has not been used since it was uninitialized. I would like to get the data off the disk. Could I try to repair the partition so it's visible again and can copy the data off it, or will I need to try to use recovery software to get the data? Thanks for any help you can give. It's also nice to see you have kind words for competing software. The biggest turn off on them is the subscription, I don't want to pay monthly/yearly for something I may only ever use once.

is there any time limit to recover the data which means deleted the data 10 years back and still use the same HDD. Can I retrieve in this scenario ?

Hard Disk? No. As long as it hasn't been overwritten it can be recovered. SSD's and flash based media can theoretically loose charge over time making the data unrecoverable.

Hi Andrew. Windows started running chkdsk on my 8TB drive every time it restarted (updates etc). I bought a new 8TB drive, shutdown windows, plugged it in and rebooted. Windows still shows the old drive - all the folders are present, and file names, but most of the files can't be opened - they are marked as corrupt. I have tried all of the tools you recommended and quite some more - none of them claim to have found anything so far (0 files). They all do say one thing along the lines of - "A device which does not exist was specified " and Error 433. I am wondering whether any of the DR tools out there can start with a device you can see in file manager, see usually be seen in disc management (not when some tools are scanning) and recover the data? Your advice will be greatly appreciated!

The issue is possibly due to connection issues or drive initialization problems. I'd recommend double-checking physical connections and considering professional data recovery services if the data is crucial. @@cleverfiles Hi - thanks for your advice - much appreciated. I changed the SATA cable and miraculously the drive started to work normally - can see the folders etc and open files, but its very noisy and stops responding to user and data recovery tools quite quickly. Probably have to get it looked at by professionals by the sounds of things.

When you recover your files, it's extremely important to select a destination different from the location where you lost the file to save the retrieved directory. Otherwise, the files may be overwritten.

Hi, I accidentally deleted the sector headers of the data on the HDD from the cmd line on a Windows computer. I did not delete the files. However, I cannot access the data because the header information is gone. What would you recommend for this?

You can still scan your drive with Disk Drill, there is always a chance.

You can try scanning your device with Disk Drill to see what can be recovered. Switching Apple ID does lower recovery chances.

I tried a few. Disk Genuis i think is the best for PC. Because it's a full blown partitioner, Disk imager, Data recovery tool. Etc. it does pretty much anything you'd need to do with a Hard Drive. Disk Drill is also very good. I'm using Disk Drill right now on a drive who's partition table has become corrupted. 100% recovery success on that drive with Disk Drill. I like all the additional features of Disk Genius though.

Every recovery case is unique and depends on thousands of parameters. The only way to verify that your files are recoverable is downloading Disk Drill Basic, running the scan on the whole drive (not just volume or partition) without interruptions, locating the files in question, and previewing them to verify the content. Alas, you need a Mac computer for that and the smartphone needs to be rooted too. If you would like to scan your SD card, you need to extract it from the device and scan it on your computer directly.

Well.... for giggles, I tried the pro on my laptop's hard drive, and it's seeing everything I've forgotten I've ever deleted. Next couple of days, (or intent is), I'll try some of my old unrecognizable hard drives. Wish me luck, and I'll reply back with results... when I get that round to it I've been meaning to get. At least I bought the software. Cost is $107.XX counting the upgrades.

recuva is shiiittt i paid nearly 90dlllars and one dis of 3.5tb it recupered only 20mb and it is nor openable never ever buy it
