I used to be a Milwaukee or Dewalt guy only. But, I got so tired of replacing them a the time due to theft. So I decided as half a joke to buy a ryobi cheapest 5 tool kit they had. Got a drill, Sawzall, circular saw, a flashlight and impact driver. All were still brushed when I grabbed about 5 years ago. Those tools are still going strong and get used every single day. Every new guy I get without their own tools gets to use the ryobi kit. I'm still impressed every day, they've paid for themselves several times, they don't owe a nickel, and best if all no has ever tried to steal them. Ryobi is definitely best bang for the buck in my opinion.

I’m opting for the Ryobi. Besides the shorter length, it also includes a battery and charger for that $99. I bought the Ryobi high torque based on your review and I love it. I also love the fact that Ryobi is committed to never changing their battery design. I have a 10+ year old Ryobi cordless drill I found doing a clean out on a property, brought it home, stuck the new battery pack from my high torque on it, and it works. There’s a lot to be said for that.

It seems to me like done kind of price adjustment should be made for units that come with a battery and charger. Yes, you might already have a battery and charger, but more batteries is a great bonus that shouldn't be ignored.

I have a Ridgid Octane 3/8 impact and it does very good. I have No idea what the real raw working numbers are, but it takes standard automotive lugnuts off without any problem.

This channel has definitely helped me to actually look at the pricing and deals for impact wrenches, and I finally own an impact worth a damn thanks to this. Purchased my craftsman 1/2 inch yesterday, and it's already proven itself better than my bargain bin air impacts, one of which being a Kobalt that was rated for 450lb-ft of torque at 90psi, but couldn't remove lugnuts torqued to 100.

I own all of the M12 impacts but I wanted to buy one to keep in our campervan, so we bought this 3/8 Ryobi in the video and I'm actually surprised that I like it as much as I do! I paid 99 bucks and got a battery and charger with it too! It obviously won't slap nuts like my M12 stubbys, but it's not meant to either. I'm a hardcore Milwaukee fan but I've been surprised by Ryobi lately to be honest!

My friend has the Earthquake 3/8" impact and loves it. He uses it for just about everything that doesn't require getting into cramped spaces or needing of high torque. From what I've been told HF is slowly discontinuing the Earthquake line of cordless tools. So when I see one on sale for a good deal I snap it up and give it to him as a surprise. As for me, I have the Milwaukee M12 3/8" nubby impact. :)

I have the Bauer because it was introduced at a time when there was not a whole lot of other choices available at this price range. I don't remember there being mid-torque or snubby impacts available in battery operated configuration. I could afford it, it was small compared to the high torque battery tools, and available. So I am quite proud of how it compares to these newer brushless models especially with the price. Love your work.

A great review film, as always. I have inadvertently gotten into the Bauer line since I bought the trimmer/edger(the edger part ain’t nothing to be proud of) and blower w/ the fast charger and two 3 a.h. batteries. Since then I have bought the 1/2” impact(mainly to keep in the truck) and the 3/8” impact. With a fully charged battery I haven’t had any trouble loosening ball joint nuts or lug nuts with the 3/8” impact. (I’m like you in that I don’t know where HF gets the 325 ft/lb rating though) My brother-in-law uses on for daily use in a body shop. The tool truck battery impacts look attractive, but I cannot justify spending the money for one. Now, if a 50-60 hr/wk mechanic needs one that is understandable. I only do DIY and automotive repair side work.

The Bauer is a pretty good impact. It's not the smallest, or the most powerful, but I'm pleased to see how it did here. My go-to 3/8" impact is my M12 stubby, but I occasionally use the Bauer at the junkyard or on other jobs when I'm too lazy to switch sockets on the Milwaukee. I'd like to see HF expand that lineup, or even the Hercules lines. Particularly with compact and right angle brushless impacts.

IDK how I missed this channel, until now, but it's exactly what I've been looking for a I build my collection. Started with Ryobi driver dill kit with 2 of the tiny batteries, added the p235 for 27 bucks like new on Amazon, then wound up with the 4 speed, 3 plus auto setting, rigid octane impact wrench with 4ah battery, charger n bag for a hundred n 50 bucks. Picked up the Ryobi p263 n cordless ratchet combo kit for 99, but returned as the battery configuration was a bit of an inconvenience n want more power in my 3/8 drive impact wrench. Looking at the rigid subcompacts combo kit for 200 - both 3/8 n half inch rated at 220 ft lbs, but gotta say, this Craftsman impressed me. Not just the power compared to the other 3 (of which, I've also been considering this Ryobi you tested), but -maybe just the recording (?)- HOW QUIET it seemed to be. Sorry for the novella-length comment....& the fact my number one key isn't working 😒, but VERY PLEASED to have found your channel, excited to explore more vids & idk....just couldn't contain myself 😂.....(at 49, I don't get too excited about much of late, but when I am, the fact I ramble is a clear indicator 😂). I've had my craftsman impact driver for a few yrs and have used the crap out of it building, and I have adapters to put impact sockets on it. It fell a few times building a barn from the roof once at 10ft and the other 2 was closer to 15 to 20ft on dirt. It has been a good tool. I think I'm going to try the nail gun as well that the have.

Great video! I thought about getting that Ryobi impact, but opted for the PBLID02B driver instead. It's similar in size but makes more power and can make use of HP batteries. I would love to see it tested.

I found a bare tool ryobi for 75. Love the thing for exhaust clamps and the auto setting is nice for not slinging bolts around

I've got one of the earthquake 3/8, I got it 5 years ago with a coupon for $117. At that point it was significantly less expensive than any other 3/8 cordless. There are a lot more options now, but I'll say the EQ has held up well. It's useful on motorcycles and the few bolts it hasn't worked on needed a bit with a 1/2 air impact or a few seconds with a 3/4.

as far as 3/8 impact wrenches, I am a professional mechanic and I couldn’t live without my Snap-On 14.4v 3/8 gun. The rocker trigger f/r switch combined with the very slim body and the decent torque specs make it my go-to. As far as 1/2 inch impacts, I use a Snap-On PT850 composite pneumatic, or if I just can’t get it off with the air gun, a Milwaukee M18 Fuel. The electric impacts tend to break more things than they take off when it’s really stuck, so pneumatic is the way to go unless it’s just not coming off

Love the animations, I compared impact drivers from fein and Ryobi , where the Fein had more torque that I know what to do with , the Ryobi is much more controllable when starting and when using delicate or fragile materials, My Fein drill can push rod through a die to make studding ,madness.

Can’t wait to see tests done with rotary hammers, both torque and your air hammer test.

Love the videos always a lot of fun to watch! Snap-on has a new ct9050 out now that has almost as much torque as ct9080, plus it comes with a new style of battery that has side locks instead of one top lock

Lowe's was running clearance and I got the Craftsman stuff stupid cheap and I've been impressed so far I've got other tools and have been testing them against what I have but this channel makes me want to buy more tools Everytime I watch.

I have the older brushed version of the Ryobi 3/8" that according to their info is actually higher torque than the brushless version. I have been able to pretty easily take off lug nuts on cars with it. Maybe you could do a brushed/brushless vs video? Good stuff as usual

The craftsman tools have been impressing me so that's the brand I went for when I decided to buy my dad his own set (he doesn't do anything heavy like me) and frankly it won over the Ryobi and kobalt simply because it has more locations that support it. Higher chance to find replacement since he travels more. I just wish they stopped pushing all these brands into "pro" prices. If they get much more expensive they won't make sense as a DIY brand.

The Craftsman stuff looks pretty good. Same guts as the DeWalt. I have a DeWalt DCF890. It works pretty good. I got the DCF921 for Xmas, it’s a beast.

All HP tools talk to the batteries, the contacts are just for bigger HP tools to draw more amps, the 3/8 impact is a compact series. Ryobi's old brushless tools needed the contacts to communicate. that's where the confusion comes in with this newer line.

You need to use a 6ah on those craftsman’s, it woke up my brushless 1/2, I’d love to see what the 6ah will give to the 3/8 impact in power, maybe even the 9ah, I got that on a $70 and I feel like it gives even more power but not much more but defiantly lasts super long

I'd love to see a dcf902 tested. I bought one 2 or 3 years ago in a kit with 2, 2ah batteries and a charger for $66 at lowes after a no exclusions coupon and sale price (I don't remember what the sale price was before the coupon). I owned a powersport and automotive repair shop at the time and bought it with intentions on using it on light sxs, atv, and motorcycle work and some under-hood auto work due to its compact size then soon found myself using it for the occasional sxs lug nut and even some 19mm auto lug nuts (probably those that were torqued to spec). I have since closed my business and work at a Caterpillar dealer as an in shop technician and STILL use this thing for wayyyy more than I ever thought that I would. Valve covers, intakes, turbo mount bolts, exhaust and intake manifolds, and various other things. I was die-hard mulwaukee at the time of purchase but swear by that little impact and have since purchased multiple more 12v extreme series tools. I'm just curious how it stacks up to other 3/8 impacts.

I was thinking about getting the 3/8 ryobi now that I'm more bought into their batteries so this video came at the perfect time.

My only grip with Ryobi is that their battery platform still is using the insertion from below. Like old Dewalts and when you've had a battery come out and land on your head, that's my game changer.

I constantly have to pull big truck driveshafts. I have the dewalt 1\2 in cordless. Works great. But it's just to big and heavy when your in awkward positions. I usually break the bolts lose with breaker bar. Right know i use the air earthquake. Works great to. Bit im going to get a 3\8 cordless impact that's small and easier to use while under the truck. Some have very tight spaces to move around underneath.

You should test the mac bwp138 its a dedicated 3/8" drive and theres no "dewalt" version of it but obviously works with dewalt battery. Its a solid impact and been out awhile. Brushed im pretty sure and claims 325 breakaway

I recognize your criteria: ONLY 3/8" models, but the Ridgid sub-compact should never have been released in 1/2". It's perfect as a 3/8" wrench, and pointless in 1/2".

I know it is a 12v, but DeWalt does have the DCF902 that was only available in the 3/8" flavor. And it is quite different from the newer DCF901 and DCF903 models.

DCF902 is dedicated 3/8 with slim body and torque supposedly comparable to Snap-On CT761. Bought the kit for $99 at Lowes and use it almost every day.

Would it be possible to do a test on something with anti seize vs without? Like would the impact product more torque using anti seize or would it still be the same. I’m not sure how your test bench is setup but there always the debate of do you put anti seize on lugs or not because the clamping force will be off.

I bought the Craftsman a few months back. For some reason the bare tool was on clearance for $70 at my local Lowes. Before I found a compelling sale/bundle for V20 batteries, I got carried away and gave Ryobi a few hundred bucks (drill, die grinder, cut-off tool). I still have the Craftsman, but have yet to actually use it. I got a refurbished model of Ryobi’s impact tested here, and it’s… fine. But this test tells me it’s worth going back on the lookout for V20 batteries.

Could we get 3/4 air showdown. I want to get a 3/4 air for suspension work on Semis but the cost difference between Central Pneumatic, Earthquake, and other brands like aircat and IR is huge. One of my coworkers has the vibrotherm aircat and it certainly beats out Thor in terms of power. Although our shop air is 120 psi. I've also seen some people who have the Husky 3/4 and it seems to be a heavy hitter.

It'd be great to see durability being tested with these impact drivers. I've seen older techs cursing about their Snap-On impact drivers crapping out on them within months of use, while their Milwaukees or whatever are still going strong. Sure, part of the insane cost of Snap-on gear is the lifetime warranty, but I'd rather a tool that just lasts out of the box. Those lb-ft ratings could start strong but then wane after 50-100 hours of use. Also, I'd like to see the Maximum/Mastercraft brand be tested. I know it's a Canadian brand, so maybe I'll be the one to send one over for testing. They're noisy and seem to lack proper low RPM control, also my 1/2" impact throws sparks half the time. Like, not just a flash like normal but legit a spark will go floating out. lol

I have a craftsman v20 3/8 impact wrench and the impact driver made in USA and I did swapped the anvils so now I have a craftsman v20 3/8 impact wrench made in USA. Wondering if that makes any difference in power but still like my new 3/8 with LEDs on the front and 3 power settings.

regarding torque loss with a hex collet: I just recently compared my Makita XDT15ZB to a newly purchased XWT12ZB (same body, slightly different gearing I think), and while the specs indicate the XWT12 having more torque, the XDT15 absolutely demolished in real world testing, even with a 1/4" hex to 3/8" square drive adapter. Like, not even close. I'm wondering if I just got a defective example of the XWT12 or if my XDT15 is a freak of nature.

I that Craftsman V20 3/8 impact wrench as my first impact wrench because I got it clearance for $34 and now I picked up the 1/2 Craftsman V20 impact wrench as well for $83, but I waited too long because before Xmas they had them clearanced it $47 then marked them back up

When you guys made this video was right when craftsman was rebranding all their tools to the brushless RP and I understand it's just a rebrand of the same tools but as someone who owns both the CMCF910 and the CMCF911 which is the brushless RP model. They actually do sound different and I don't know if it's true, but the brushless RP version does seem to be a little bit more powerful. Even though everything about it says that there should be the same

I have a Kobalt xtr driver that I swapped in a 3/8 anvil in because it kept breaking all my bits. I'm really surprised they don't offer a 3/8 xtr version because it makes for a pretty good impact.

Another channel (Shop Tool Reviews maybe?) did some testing and found that loosening a bolt usually took around 80% of its tightening torque on their rig. Using that figure, if the Bauer is supposed to be able to break away a bolt fastened to 325 ftlbs it should have a tightening torque of 260 ftlbs. It was still a bit off, but not too terrible really. I still don't think there is that much value in it though, I would rather pony up a bit more buy the Craftsman if I'm going to spend that much.

Torque Test Channel - can you do a Review on the ACDelco - Durafix 1/4 'anvil' and 3/8 'anvil' the 12volt?

I bought one of those 3/8 Ryobi Impact wrenches last year and I really like mine. There's not many times that it doesn't break bolts free so far. If your invested in the Ryobi tool line it seems decent. It does suck it doesn't take advantage of the hp+ batteries. If it did, I would suspect it being a bigger powerhouse.

You need to test matco impacts, they are all I use because they are so strong.

The 21700 and 16850 have many versions with different capacities and different max discharge rates. One 16850 may have 2Ah capacity and 10A max discharge rate while another has 2Ah capacity and 15A discharge rate, being able to deliver more amperage and more torque, if the tool can use the extra power for torque. 5 cell packs(series) deliver the same max amps as the rating of one cell, and 10 cell packs (usually 5Ah-6Ah) can deliver up to 2x the max discharge rate of one cell (being series-parallel) Since many of us already have battery packs, often preferring one brand like dewalt 20v, we tend to use batteries other than the battery that came with the tool or buy the tool bare. The only fair comparison between impacts is to replace a 5 cell and 10 cell pack with identical 16850 cells and test each tool with the exact same 5/10 cells. Back to battery preference, the only 10 cell pack I own are dewalts... so for impact would stick to them since I can swap between slimline pack and a 5Ah or better dewalt. Otherwise I would be tempted to get a ryobi, but I only have low Ah 5 cell packs and not interested in ramping up my ryobi battery collection

I have the Milwaukee 2754-20, the 3/8” m18 fuel compact impact, they claim 210ft-lb i don’t recall that one being tested, interested to see how it compares.

I am wondering how the 3/8s Kobalt would have acquitted itself. It is the same (or looks exactly the same) as the mid-torque 1/2 you tested but with a 3/8" anvil. It made 220 I think in that test. It is over 6" but I don't remember how big. Neither are the most powerful but I was heavy into the 24v line and have been happy with the performance.

I’ve been using a Ingersol Rand 3/8 12volt impact wrench for years.......and I can tell you it’s not nearly as powerful as the competition (it can’t even take a lugnut off), I use it for removing 14 millimeter (and smaller) nuts an bolts. It’s gone through a LOT of use (and a little abuse) and it’s STILL working like new, IR obviously sacrificed power for robustness, I mean the batteries still last for days.

Not sure if u have yet but r u able to test the brushed 3/8th, specs say they’re more and it feels stronger but just wondering how much more on ur rig.

I'm older than dirt wayyy before cordless impacts. I remember I got a skill cordless ratchet in the early mid 1980s . It was a nut driver 9 volts and had to break bolts loose then use the ratchet to run the bolts out and in then tighten them. I have a snapon 3/8s and a Craftsman 20volt 1/2 inch and I will say the craftsman 20 is wayyy more powerful than the snapon. I cat break a axle nut loose on a Camry with the snapon but the craftsman blows them off. Mostly I use air tools over cordless because. Air tools need a minute or 2 for the compressor catches up . If you don't match your compressor with tools . Unless you can afford to spend $3-5000 on a compressor for your truck. And have the room on your truck. I matched my 1 inch drive impact uses 12 cfpm at 90psi my compressor delivers 15 cfpm at 90psi . A DeWalt with a 6 horsepower Honda about $12-1500 But I had a big repair where I couldn't run my air compressor. So it was the craftsman . It was a 3'day job and I had 2 batteries and that would give me 4-5 hours of use. So the Snapon too but it meant everything was slower than air waiting for batteries to charge plus battery power can't match air for speed and ball . But I'm seeing videos of guys using battery operated impacts doing thing my 1500 lb air impact can't do like breaking loose like on old equipment I'm thinking one day soon that service trucks won't even have air tools on them . Except to air up tires

Ryobi needs to do what Dewalt did and give up on those post batteries and make an adapter for people desperate to use older tools. That battery design is holding them back but then again TTI may like that...

I have the 3/8” ryobi and have found that it really struggles to remove lug nuts on my small car. I only tighten them to 80 ft lbs. it will do it but by the time you do all 16 nuts that thing is smoking hot. I guess that’s just asking a bit too much of it. The 1/2” p262 doesn’t have any trouble with them.

If you guys throw any pneumatic 3/8s in there, the Earthquake 3/8 impacting rachet is worth the look at 80 bucks. I may be willing to lend mine depending on things. It's handy to get into narrow spots and has gotten bolts that gave me a run for my money.

ACDelco - Durafix 1/4 anvil and 3/8s are like very compact and got plenty of torque. I would buy the Craftsman or Dewalt over the other brands.

On your chart 10:34 you have Craftsman listed as 198lb/f in Max Torque test, but it hit 205lb/f in the Max Torque test at 7:42. The other impacts have correct number for that test.

I use my XWT13 1/4 with Husky 3/8 adapter. Takes out SUV caliper bolts easy.

I'm old school, so I can remember when 3/8" air powered 160ftlbs was considered stout. That being said, I wish Ryobi would've given it's 3/8" impact a larger brushless motor, and bigger hammer/anvil set. Hell, at least something with more balls. I mean only going to make one brushless 3/8" impact, give it some freaking balls. Make it to use their own latest and greatest tech. I understand that Milwaukee is the BigDaddy under the same parent company. But Ryobi batteries are notoriously huge. If your DIY project is large enough for you to carry a 6Ah battery, it dwarfs the tool.! I'd happily pay $20.00 for the.45¢ a motor with some balls cost, and be willing to accept the body that would be maybe 1/8"-1/4" thicker. For crying out loud! A couple onces could've made all difference.. And make it run with Rigid, the other sister ship. I know they want to keep Rigid in between the Milwaukee and the Ryobi. I think they should operate a bit more like Stanley/Black&Decker/DeWalt/Craftsman. The Craftsman 1/2"impact looks the absolute spitting image of the DCF899, yet it's spec's suggest it's a little hairier, and a little angrier. I'd probably still purchase the DCF900, because it's be same place in my toolbox...In The Place of ALL MY RYOBI SH!T.!!! Instead of Milwaukee's gen4s because I refuse to purchase 1, and go through expense and unnecessary hasil of buying the in-store warranty so they can fight it out with Milwaukee, rather I, 3 different trips like my buddy, just to get a working one. Wow.! That felt so good to say.

Hmm, this is embarrassing. I just bought the Bosch 12 volt 3/8" impact wrench. It wasn't as cheap as some of these and it only delivers 85 ft lbs. It's compact and lightweight, which is a nice bonus. I guess I'll keep it for little jobs around the house where I absolutely need something small. But for other jobs I need a better impact wrench and a set of many extensions and socket depths.

You never mentioned which mode you had the Ryobi on? 1, 2, 3 or 4 auto? Do the other impacts have modes?

An idea for testing: How about testing batteries from different platforms, using adapters? For example, testing a Ridgid wrench using Bosch Batteries.

Another observation for Ryobi. With their compact line, why not just flip the battery to face the other way and free up some clearance?

Do you have any tests comparing Milwaukee fuel vs non fuel tools? A lot of package deals at home Depot look good but sneak in non-fuel tools. Curious the difference

I just received my makita XWT16Z 3/8 brushless impact last week but haven't got a chance to use it yet, it's advertised as having 375 ft/lbs of nut busting and 220 ft/lbs tightening

I really wish they made more powerful dedicated 3/8” impacts. I’m a sucker for big power in a small package. The dcf850 is my favorite tool. That being said the 850 can drop 150 ft. Lbs of torque which means it can compete with these for majority of tasks you would use them for. I’m waiting for something spectacular.
