I boil 2 cups of filtered water in a stainless steel pot on my stove, then add 1 to 1.5 cups of organic sugar and boil it until the sugar is dissolved. I let it cool down completely, then add it to the feeder which I also clean thoroughly. I get a LOT of hummingbirds.

Just a heads up on organic sugar. Hummingbirds CANNOT metabolize the iron in brown or tan sugars. Plain white cane sugar is all you need. Check out Hummingbird Spot channel on how to make nectar that won't hurt them.

Thank you for the Recipe, the birds love it! The funnel is the same width as the jar opening and funnels to a smaller hole causing a backup. In other words that funnel is useless lol, a larger one might be better.

Glad I’m not the only person to notice this. A funnel only benefits when the wide opening of the funnel is bigger than the opening of the vessel being poured into. The funnel being used for this glass vessel only acts as a choke and the only thing it’s doing is slowing down the flow water and ultimately causing splashing and a mess. Just common sense

@@robertcornelius3514 Granted... it is a minor issue. I wasn't really complaining, just highlighting the absurdity of adding a utensil that has no practical value to the process. I did use her video to make some great hummingbird feed, and keep doing so every week, I just don't use a tiny funnel in the process.

Maria, I don’t know what state you live in, but we were in California. Star Lavender, Honeysuckles, Jasmines. Pretty much any bush or tree that have bell or cone shaped flowers that they can stick their little beak into would be good.

Love your channel please consider using a glass Pyrex container for the boiling water boiling water melts plastic and the hummingbirds are drinking the dangerous poisonous plastic particles glasses best or a stainless steel saucepan on your stove to make your mixture thanks again for your channel thank you for helping the hummingbirds

2:00 that's the silliest thing I've ever seen. The glass container has a "funnel" type opening with a nice large mouth. Why would you put a funnel in there with a tiny opening at the bottom?

Please do not add any coloring of any kind to your nectar. Unnatural additives can hurt the birds. This channel only uses plain white sugar and water. Not brown sugar as the iron will hurt the birds as they cant metabolize iron. Use glass feeders and decorate with red to attract them not feed them red dye. Hope this helps.

Yes, you can give it right out of the refrigerator. I do it every morning. it will last at least a week no problem.

Please DO NOT put boiling water into a plastic vessel! All that plastic leeches into the hummingbird's food and they will eventually die from ingesting all the microplastics. Plastic is fine for COLD things but not hot things! Please get either a glass or stainless steel container!

I truly would not use Stevia for birds, I know that it is from a plant source but it is recommended to only use refined white sugar because the calorie content is critical. Thank you so much for your comment.

Sorry, but the 1:4 ration of sugar to water is incorrect, 1:3 ratio is the closest to nature and why they like the 'extra' you put in. It's because a cup of a granular solid is less volume than a cup of water, they aren't the same. Research this and you could have a dramatic break through video helping the world understand that 1:3 ratio is the best. Good luck, well done video.

Actually, I have an insulin bottle for the hummingbirds. LOL. And I do have an alarm on the refrigerator for the kids. The hummingbirds are so gentle.
