Cavite is one of the most important places in the Philippines. It is where our national heroes fought for freedom and is the center of our independence. Its streets whisper the secrets of a nation that survived centuries of oppression and colonization-it is where we remember that we have come a long way.
Cavite should be at the top of your travel bucket list to the Philippines because of its delicious food, its unique historical sights, and most importantly its locals. Come and journey with us to the Historical Capital of the Philippines!

My family comes from Cavite City and Imus and I’ve always loved my mom’s home cooking growing up. This brings back childhood memories and I really love videos like these that help to preserve Filipino culture and culinary history. Thank you so much!

This documentary brought tears to my eyes, perhaps because my father’s ancestors have roots in Cavite and the food and culture resonate deeply with me. Thank you for your thoughtful and respectful approach as always. And for the treat of hearing your pronunciation of the French word “terroir.” ❤️ I completely agree that Filipino food grown and prepared in the Mother Land tastes very special compared to the same recipes cooked in other lands. It’s all delicious, but food in the homeland is its own unique thing. Even the pan de sal can’t be perfectly duplicated. Bless you and your team, Erwan!

My great grandmother was an excellent cook. Since I was the primera bisnieta, I was the apple of her eyes and was fed with the best. My lola Maria told me that Spanish recipes were only copied through taste while the Japanese commisioned cooks and taught them how to cook their food. American food, she said is simple. I have sanitized their words in describing the 3 colonial experiences. There are so many heirloom recipes that was lost. I wish I have them. I can only recreate my childhood gastronomical experience through memory. You videos remind me of those lost recipes. Thank you.

This is one of the most interesting ones I've watched on Featr. Such a treat! I've traveled the world, and have gotten comments from people saying how Filipino food is sweet and unhealthy. I was young, and my only response to them was: "where have you been eating in the Philippines?!" But I didn't have enough knowledge to back up my response because all I knew was my own family's cooking. Thank you to Erwan and everyone involved in Featr. I am learning so much about our own culinary history. Now my appreciation for the Filipino culture and cuisine has elevated, from the local carenderias to family-owned restaurants keeping legacies. I am hopeful that the new generation of Filipinos will revive the old traditional ways of cooking...

Badly wanna learn this language but I don't know where to start. I grew up and am still currently living here in Tanza but I came from a Visaya lineage (Biliranon) and I can already speak some Visaya so my next target is Chabacano to honor the province I lived most of my life in. Any idea where to start?

Thank you FEATR! Im getting memories of my lolo, lola at titas and titos. To add - some memories I have growing up in Salinas Cavite, where my lolo was a postman: lutong pague (stewed stingray with turmeric, lutong palaka (sautead veggies most prominently patani or lima beans also with anisado, atsuete 😊 a real favorite and trademark of caviteno food), and tocino ni mang nilo (pink and salty, not sugary tocino. Also, pancit luglog, palabok and malabon is really the same. Its not Malabon City really, but bayan ng Malabon, Cavite now called Gen Trias. Yan po talaga 🥰. Yan ang tunay na tourism program….what you guys are doing 😍 Bravo!

Gastronomy really starts in one's own home. It is not rooted in the carinderia in a baranggay but has its foundations in the home. A lot of families will whip up food that will not make it to being commercially famous, but you know that a certain family cooks superb adobo, or the most amazing menudo or calandracas distinct with that certain family. The problem there is how to immortalize the legacy of these cooking if one were to remain conscious of not letting fastfoods overtake family cooking. The tradition of family recipes should be kept alive. And one has to make the conscious effort.

Bravo Erwan! Loved all except for the ensaimada part where the bakery uses margarine sadly, not real butter. Margarine is a processed food, made of hydrogenated vegetable oils full of unhealthy trans fat that are known to affect health negatively and are highly inflammatory. Margarine also contains additives such as artificial colorants, emulsifiers and fillers. Perhaps you can make a video using real butter what we can follow at our home kitchen. Thank you for all your valuable (and fun) content showcasing the culinary map of the Philippines.
